I got a defective item the first time I ordered as it was not cooling and smelled of refrigerant so I decided to get a replacement and the process was very easy through UPS and Amazon, this one is blowing very cold at 41 degrees Fahrenheit in my studio apartment bedroom and quieter than the ac/heat pump in my living room but also a bit smaller in size and BTUs, I think, as well as presumably energy usage, though I haven't checked specifically. Still my bedroom is now in the 60s while it's still in the 80s as the night moves in, but the true test will be when it gets back up to 101 or more here in Kansas. With a Vornado fan to pull the AC air in from the living room on the hottest days of the year so far at 105 one day, my top floor bedroom topped out at 80 degrees Fahrenheit, which I had become used to somewhat but I still wanted it colder. The living room AC/heat pump despite being 13 years old, it has been a workhorse and still blows at 48 degrees Fahrenheit on those hottest days with good circulation but just too far from my room and the insulation is not the best, though again this is a top floor of two story apartments built over 40 years ago now. So so far, I am quite happy with this unit, and the replacement was a few days and easy! Much more comfortable to work in my bedroom now, may have to turn the unit down soon as it's almost too cold for me, but much better than too hot! ... show more

Here's the thing, if you're heating or cooling a closet, go for it. Bought this for a 13ftx7ft video editing and audio recording studio. The space is small. -It turns off every 2 or 3 minutes. -It never gets the enclosed space to the desired temperature. -The touch board has randomly lit up red. -The remote is inconsistent. -It's ridiculously loud, but I understood this going in, just didn't realize it would be as loud. -Letting it drain outside, it still causes the space to become humid and uncomfortable. -It's knocked out the power to this section of the house multiple times. I have an old tiny space heater (10inx7in) that heats the space far greater than this big expensive seemingly useless machine. Even now, it's been blowing heat on and off for the last hour. The temperature in the space has dropped... it's gotten colder. I have it set for 75-degrees. This has been an expensive disappointment. Update - Thursday, Aug 10, 2023 This thing is not cooling at all. Cold air comes out for a couple of minutes, and then it stops putting out cold air. The room is insulated well, no gaps for air to escape (for the most part). Running the AC, it's like the thing is not even on. Set at 72 degrees, after 30 minutes the temperature in the studio is increased to 90. The AC begins putting out hot air, just randomly, but the display still reads as if it's putting out cold air. Cooled down my master bedroom. Hooking up to the window needs a bit of work. Make sure you have a good seal around the window frame Tubing is a bit heavy and may not secure well to your window. had to provide alternatives to secure better. The unit is great!!

Have used this for the past week and a half. The heater works well and a/c seems to as well. Will need to test it out more. The unit is smaller, which is nice for an apartment. The only negative so far is that I have had to empty the drain twice and since it is gravity drain am having a hard time getting the water all out as I can’t get it up high enough. That could be why I’ve had to empty it twice…a good deal if it keeps working well. :-) ... show more

I purchased this product for use in my office. Too bad it doesn't turn on/off as you'd presume to be appropriate. Presently the heat function is being used - and though it is set at 70 or 72, the room temperature can be 65-66 and it still doesn't turn on; nor does it shut off at 72 or even 73 or 75. When I used it during the summer, it didn't turn off when the desired set cooling temperature was reached, and was delayed when turning on when the room was warm. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. After ordering these from Amazon three times and receiving units that failed the day I received them, I finally figured out the problem. I read all of the negative reviews and did research. My error was always testing the unit once I received it. You MUST let it sit unplugged for at least six hours to allow the fluids to settle!!! That's a MUST!!! I purchased this unit to use when camping in my 8.5x22 enclose trailer. I drilled a 6" hole in the floor and let it rip. This unit cooled the trailer from 91 to 78 in an hour. It blows ice cold. My only complaint is that it's a little loud with the compressor on. If I were in a larger space, I probably wouldn't notice it. But it blows ice cold air. I haven't tested the heater yet, but I plan to. Again, after three failed units, I realized that it MUST sit unplugged (vertically) for at least six hours before use!!! I only gave this 1 star because I can't give it a zero. I bought this as a birthday gift for my husband last April. We couldn't hook it up right away because the attic was being finished as his man cave. This unit was going to be perfect since we weren't running heat or air conditioning up there. Once it was finished in June we hooked it up and lo and behold, the AC did NOT work. It just blew around slightly less warm air than what was already up there. Since we were past the Amazon return window, my husband contacted Black & Decker directly letting them know about the issue. They said they needed proof of purchase and they would send him a return label and then a replacement unit. After weeks of waiting...the return label didn't come, and the email follow up questioning this went unanswered. In the meantime, my husband bought a new AC unit from Lowes that worked perfectly. Since there was no response from Black & Decker, his plan was to just keep the old unit for the heater only. Well it finally got cold enough to use the heater up there and SURPRISE.....that feature doesn't work either. So long story short, I spent over $400 on a fan. DON'T BUY THIS. ... show more
