I now have three pieces in the Black+Decker "Max" Li-ion series - the string trimmer, the hedge trimmer, and this blower/vac. I love 'em. And the synergy across the set is excellent. It's super convenient to have two (or more) batteries. Keep one on the charger while you're using the other. It takes only a moment to swap them and "bingo" you're back to work with a fresh battery. Li-ion is totally the way to go for household use. It keeps it's charge and it's always ready to go. This blower is a dream. It is so light and convenient to use. Not quite strong enough to blow (or suck) big leaves off the grass or out of the bushes, but an absolute dream on concrete. Perfect for a quick clean up on the driveway or sidewalk. Ideal for cleaning up after using the string trimmer to edge the lawn. Just grab it and go. I like it a lot! Initially I was unimpressed with the vacuum on this tool, but the more I use it, the more it like it. Like the blower, it works best on concrete. Around the pool, it's better for me to vacuum up leaves and debris rather than blow them around.     • Lasted less than 1/2 hour of use
After a search in our local Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc....I was looking for a leaf blower/vacuum that is MOSTLY made in America. All I'm looking for is a quality product. Cost isn't my thing, although this was on the more expensive side. The unit is small, compact and after charging the battery to full, as indicated on the charging LED, started to shut off after about 20 minutes of use. I purchased to clean my up my Mesquite, and Bougainvillea leaves in my Arizona yard. Two of the lightest leaves known to man kind. First: The Blower function, worked well for these two types of leaves, I would think leaves that are any heavier would be a real PITA. My first thought when turning it on was 'most people fart a stronger wind than this!' My first battery operated yard tool and maybe it's my lack of experience and my expectations were too high. None the less, after blowing my mesquite leaves into a neat area of the yard, I added the Vacuum attachment. Second: The vacuum attachment actually worked pretty well with the light weight leaves I was using it for. This unit is easy to use and very light weight. After vacuuming up the leaves for about 5 minutes, the unit shut down, my first thought is that the bag was getting full and maybe there's an override mechanism built in. I took off the battery, put it back on the charger for 20 minutes, emptied the only half full bag and then re-attached the battery. It fired right up and then after only a few more minutes it shut down again. My apologies to any of my neighbors who may have heard me cuss this unit with a 'wtf' and 'pos'. If I lived in a condo and my patio had a layer of dust, this might do the job, but if you have anything larger than a 10x10 area to clean, try another product, My search goes on. :/ ... show more

    • We're Very Glad We Bought This One!
This is a superbly engineered, well-made product that works extremely well on our apartment terraces. It is virtually impossible to put it together wrong and the pieces, once attached, are held firmly in place and are easy to remove. Its 40V lithium battery provides plenty of power. We plan to use it only on dry leaves. Our only 'negative' is that assembling the three pieces of the vacuum tube is 'tricky' but if you pay close attention to the alignment of the matching triangular holes and studs and use a bit of care, it comes together nicely (and apparently permanently, no idea how to take it apart). ... show more

    • Very convenient but not particularly powerful.
I like this blower/vac for what it is, but don't think it will be anywhere near as powerful as gas or even corded electric versions. The vacuum function is nowhere near as powerful as my shop-vac, and although the blower function is fine, it's weak compared to a gas blower. (I've never used a corded blower so can't make that comparison.) With the caveats above, I do like this blower/vac. I bought it because I didn't want to deal with the maintenance of a gas motor or the need to drag around a long extension cord. I don't use the blower function much because I've never really understood the point of moving debris from one point to another, but I like being able to vacuum up debris to keep walkways, the sidewalk, and my deck tidy. Here's what I've found it can and cannot do: For cleaning my new redwood deck it's great at getting small bits of debris from between the boards. It's great with small leaves, but for something like a dry magnolia leaf you've got to direct it up the tube. Small dry (light) twigs are fine, but for something near the diameter of a pencil it's going to require some encouragement. Anything like a dry walnut seems to get up into the tube, but then falls out when the motor is turned off. Miscellaneous bits of plant material, no problem. It's not strong enough to pick up large pebbles, but it can pick up very small pebbles or bits of concrete, but I assume those things are bad for the grinding/mulching mechanism so I avoid them. It would be nice if there was a way to shut off or bypass the mulching mechanism so it wouldn't be necessary to avoid working in areas where a pebble or bit of concrete might be sucked up. The forward handle is ergonomically designed, which is a nice feature. Emptying the bag is easy, as is the switch between vacuum and blower modes. The battery slides into position easily and as others have said, it does charge quickly. I've only had it for a short while so can't speak to its longevity, but it appears to be well made and there's nothing to make me suspect it will fail anytime soon. Bottom line, buy it for its convenience if you only need it for the light-duty jobs it can handle. Its convenience can't be beat. ... show more
