My old Bissell portable carpet cleaner finally gave up the ghost after more than 20 years of service. So, I went for another Bissell. After using it for a while, I'm impressed across the board. Setup and usage is very straightforward, and there are a number of design touches to make using it (and storing it when not in use) efficient and easy. The long cord and long hose make tasks such as stair cleaning so much easier. Cleaning the machine after use (which is mandatory if you want the vac to perform well and last a long time) is simple. Suction power is excellent. The spray pattern is mostly good, but it would have been nice to be able to adjust the spray dispersion angle since sometimes it's too wide for the task at hand. Not a major issue, however. The only cons are the operating sound and the hose quality. This is loud! As in shop vac loud. Everyone in the house, and probably the neighbors (if the windows are open) will know you're using this. But having a strong suction power requires a larger motor, so there's an equitable trade off. The hose is functional, but given that it's the primary stress point, I would have liked a thicker, more stout hose even if it didn't have the ability to coil as neatly as the present hose. Even with the cons, this has been a pleasure to use, and the performance has been excellent. Five stars. ... show more

Bought the Little Green Carpet cleaner a few years back. Worked ok, hard to clean, started to lose suction. This is better suction and general cleaning. The dirty take is very easy to dump and clean. In directions it suggests to vacuum up a quart of hot water to clean.

This was the 2nd machine i purchased as I couldn’t decide between the Rug doctor model and this one. After owning/using both of them, I ended up returning this one. There are some great features to this machine and there are some big downsides too. PRO’S: Easy to use, easy to scrub, super long cord, GREAT formula (Bissell Pet Pro OXY Urine Eliminator) - this stuff works and cleans well (smells decent too), machine doesn’t kick out that much bad smelling stuff compared to other brands. I like that when it comes to cleaning, the handle is small for your hand (to wrap around it) and you can scrub in a back and forth motion (with some other brands, you can’t do this). CON’S: The lack of suction power is the biggest letdown. While this is stronger then the rest of the machines under this model at 4.9, this is where the Rug Doctor beats it. The Rug Doctor has the strongest suction power out of any machine on the market (it’s at 10). I did a test. I cleaned/sucked up a urine stain on my rug with the Bissell - took me about 20 minutes to clean and suck it up fully (or so i thought). The next day, I went to go touch the spot and it was still noticeably wet. This time I used my Rug Doctor machine over the same spot to see if anything else would be sucked up. THERE WAS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT of liquid still left over needing to be sucked up! I couldn’t believe it. I spent an additional 10-15minutes sucking up the remainder of what was there w/ my Rug Doctor. The Rug Doctor sucked up the rest of it, and the carpet was dry afterwards. So the suction power on the Bissell is def inferior compared to the Rug Doctor unit but then again the Rug Doctor is at 10 and is going to beat any machine underneath it. OTHERS CONS w/ the Bissell: Everything snaps into place and this is okay but it feels flimsy like it will break or wear soon. It would benefit from either a thicker, sturdier snap or 2 snap mechanisms. The plastic is thin where you attach the scrub brush handle, so if you are heavy handed, it is possible that this is something that could break sooner than later. Better, sturdier design would help prevent this from occurring. The tanks: Both tanks just sit in the unit. They don’t lock in nor snap in. It would be nice if they locked in. They don’t seem to sit flush even when they’re full. It is tricky to empty the dirty water tank. If you don’t remove the top part, the plastic piece will shoot out the top while you empty it. You can remove the top part to empty that tank further but it doesn’t seem to get everything out no matter what method you do. This is something that will eventually gunk up over time as you use it (unless you hose it down outside). I didn’t use the stain trapper tool so i can’t comment on that. It’s not a horrible unit but I returned it because of the lack of suction power compared to my Rug Doctor unit. I need a unit that is going to not only clean the accidents my dogs have, but i need it to SUCK IT AWAY. That’s why I am buying this thing, to suck it away! This doesn’t suck it fully. That’s why i returned it. I want to smell a clean smell, not a urine one. ... show more

I CANNOT say ENOUGH about this product!! This is one powerful little machine and well worth the cost. I would go so far as to say it is the best product I have purchased in the last 5 years! I used the sample cleaning solution included and it removed set in pet stains that I had previously scrubbed by hand then was unable to remove with even my full size shampooer! I only had to spray, scrub over it with the included attachment 3-4 times, then two passes slowly to suck up the yuck...stain gone and carpet nearly dry!! This machine is lightweight, compact, easy to use, works amazingly on set in pet stains, easy to store and most importantly it is easy to clean and dry before storing!! I have told everybody I know how impressed I am. I only wish I had taken before and after pics (it was Christmas day and I was in a hurry). I feel like you have to see what it can do to believe it. I cleaned 4 vomit stains and two 2' x 2' areas where my elder dog has had bladder issues. All areas cleaned in about 15 minutes, dry in 30 minutes. I had hand scrubbed the smaller stains and used my full sized shampooer on the 2 larger areas (intermittently as needed over last year). The smaller stains (yellow/bile/dog food) came right up and the amount of yellow liquid that came up from the larger area even after intermittent shampooing was both disgusting and amazing. All odor was gone as well. I haven't had the need to try on upholstery, but I am sure I would be impressed with the results if I did. ... show more
