  • Excellent purchase!
This surpassed any expectations I held. Pros: slide off the top of the box, plug in the extension cord and it’s ready to go! This is lighter weight than I expected (Female/mid thirties). It is fairly easy to pick up and carry. Cleaning is a breeze. As directions state: vacuum well! I have a Miele C1 cat and dog, vacuum daily (I work from home), and hair still came up. However, none was stuck to the machine or bristles when done. Easy to operate. Quieter than expected. Removed two stains from my cat throwing up (treated with biokleen carpet cleaner). Rather than use my handheld machine I waited two days for this to arrive. I have three senior dogs (18,16, and 15) one has kidney disease and is deaf (she was given 30 days to live 5 years ago) and in the last few months has struggled to hold her bladder more often. I am fairly good at catching accidents when they happen (luckily they happen on the hardwood more than the carpet), but I was hoping this machine would take care of what I possibly missed (I began to smell an off urine smell in parts of our room). I must admit I despise carpet. Our bedroom is on the first floor and one of two carpeted areas (the upstairs carpet but two of my dogs are too old for stairs). We recently moved into our home and I could not continue paying a company to come out and clean the carpets (which are new), no matter how often they claimed (green and low scent!) eco-products, my house wreaked like the laundry aisle at target. I have an older cat who has survived cancer twice, an husband who survived hereditary cancer, and needed to continue to minimize exposure to toxic junk. Not to mention the smell left was overwhelming and gave everyone headaches. After running this machine with diluted Puracy cleaner (and then running a rinse cycle over the carpet), only a faint citrus smell is left and carpets look so clean! The water was so brown! The carpets looked cleaner and smelled better than when the professionals have come out. They were also far less damp. I placed a dehumidifier, cracked a window for a bit of winter air, and shut the door to not trigger the thermostat. Cons: it takes forever to use. I may have went much slower than some (I had to refill four times). It took me almost two hours to do our small room. I am not looking forward to doing the living room (but the blessing of clean and fresh carpets outweighs the time it takes to use). If I were only using this a few times a year, I wouldn’t care, but as I know I will replace these carpets within a year, I plan on cleaning them once a month to keep things cleaner. The upstairs where only cats hangout occasionally will see the remainder of uses. ... show more

  • Top Reason (In My Opinion) To Buy This Over a Rug Dr
When I bought this, I was highly skeptical because I have always used a Rug Dr that I rented from a local carrier. I have used them for years and was not really familiar with the Bissell Machine. I bought it after reading some reviews from other people who purchased this particular product. As with everything, there were both positive and negative reviews to go through. Build quality for both machines is good. However, after using both machines, I feel that the Big Green has a better design than the Rug Dr. One of the reviews caught my eye and really swayed me towards this product. It mentioned the ease of cleaning and maintaining the item. The biggest difference between a Rug Dr and the Bissell Big Green Machine is in the way it scrubs the carpet. Rug Dr uses a brush bar that moves from front to back rapidly to scrub the carpet where as the Bissell uses a spinning drum just like a vacuum to scrub the carpet. I have not tried to take apart a Rug Dr to clean it but with the Big Green you just push a small lever and the drum swivels out of the bottom, remove (3) screws and the brush pulls right out. Access to all of the dirt and pet hair is easily removed. Time it takes me to tear it apart and put it back together for cleaning is about 10 to 15 minutes. This is important to me because I do not care how many times you go over your carpet with a vacuum or how long you take to vacuum, there is going to be deep dirt that will come up during cleaning. With pet hair it is the same. Pet hair works its way into your carpet and with a good carpet cleaner it is going to get pulled out and stick to the inside of the machine. I literally just pulled a handful out of it that was stuck to the drum around the brush. Thankfully it is easy to remove so I can get in and clean it out. As far as performance of the two machines, I would say that they are almost equal. I do see that the Big Green has the ability to pull up more of the water than the Rug Dr leaving your carpet dryer after one pass. I have (2) 100+lb bull mastiffs. My female has a bladder control issue so I am cleaning my carpets is a monthly chore for me.. The pet stains do come up. I use the Bissell Advance Clean and Protect with a good pet spot treatment prior to cleaning. That pretty much sums up my review. I do recommend this to anyone who owns a home and is wanting their own machine to keep the carpets clean. It is a decent investment to make but if you are always having to rent one to get it done you may as well buy one. It really does save a lot of my time by having it on hand rather than being at the whim of store hours and the time it takes me to pick it up and return it. Hope this helps. ... show more

  • A fantastic investment if you need cleanliness and value build quality
I have about 15 years experience in commercial and residential floor care and carpet cleaning. This is the machine I purchased for my own home use, and I also use it for friends and family. I don't put anything inside the clean tank but hot water, and that is my only rule if someone else is to use it. These models are extremely popular in the rental market, which means they can take a lot of abuse. Maintenance is simple, suction is great for it's size (it won't compare to a truck mount or larger system but it's more than adequate if the user is thorough. Carpet cleaners are wet machines full of dirty water, if you finish a space and immediately click it off and wheel it across a hard surface, you'll drag nasty water everywhere because it's still hanging inside the machine just above the floor, you have to plan for that and act accordingly. A good process for prep, use, and storage is necessary. Always store it with your recovery tank and clean reservoir open to prevent funk and odors. The design is thoughtful and the build quality is fantastic. It's narrow and folds down to something accordion case sized, with sturdy grab spots to lift it up at the front and back (one a few inches higher than the other) which makes it easy to lift and carry, but you'll find doorways a bit awkward to traverse whilst humping it around this way. Always vacuum thoroughly first, twice as many times as you think thorough is. Use a simple pump sprayer to apply a mixed prespray solution to the rug and agitate it (in a pinch you can use a clean broom, but a carpet rake or counter rotating brush made for carpet is ideal), fill the machine with ONLY clean hot water, make slow deliberate passes in straight lines and your primary goal should be pulling as much water BACK UP as possible, so dry passes until you're ready to keel over. If you shut off the machine and a bunch of dirty water dribbles out, you didn't get it very clean and you definitely didn't dry it enough. ... show more

  • You need this! Look no further - buy THIS one. You wont regret it.
Absolutely Fantastic - way better than the rentals from that other brand, and identical to the Bissell rental machines. I have waited a while to review this because since it was a high dollar item I wanted to thoroughly test and use it and see how it held up. With that said - this thing is a carpet cleaning brute! It has paid for itself many times over. Full size - just like the one you rent. Folds down easily to transport in an SUV. Light yet well built. Really heavy duty cord - which is an extension cord - So I have also used it for my vacuum and steam cleaner. Tanks empty easy. No assembly required.. Its ready to go out of the box. There is nothing about this not to love! I also bought the upholstery cleaning brush. I have used it at my home, my office, my moms home, even the rooms at a client's motel! I have also used the upholstery tool to do couches, office furniture, my mom's mattress (she is elderly and experienced some incontinence issues). The upholstery tool (NOT included but available separately) is also great for car and airplane headliners, carpets and seats. Recently we had flooding in the area and I even used it to suck up water before actually drying and then shampooing. I cant even express how handy it is to deal with messy mishaps, right then - without having to go rent. This thing has cleaned up everything from unwelcome pet "presents", to elderly incontinence mishaps, to vomit in a Cessna, to Chinese food that shot off the seat when I had to brake hard. (were talking Egg Foo Yong with that thick brown sauce and a quart of egg drop soup!). It turned a nasty dusty couch that sat in storage into something I was able to sell instead of to pay to have taken away. I have yet to find anything that this wont clean, and clean well. The solution (also not included) is available everywhere, is reasonably priced, smells great and has both Scotchgard and Febreeze. Super easy to use. Easy to clean. Compact to store and transport, and a cleaning powerhouse that will do everything from shampoo your carpets to detail your car. You cant go wrong and you can own it for the same price as just a few rentals would cost. ... show more

  • Dirt Extractor Extraordinaire!!
First .... remove all packing material. This machine was impressive on the first rug but it was crazy impressive on the second rug when I took the cardboard packing material out of the suction line. Seriously though ... it's worth every penny and it stores better than my out- going machine. I have rugs and then berber carpet in two rooms. The other machine cleaned pretty good but didn't have enough suction power to pull the moisture and dirt from deep in the fibers. My berber used to take half a day or longer to dry and that just made the dirty look come back faster. The suction of this machine let my carpets dry within 2 hours! With four dogs ... a quality machine is a must to clean my carpets. Wish I would have just bit the bullet long ago. Ive spent more than the cost of this machine buying other machines and renting other machines. No more! ... show more

  • What a powerhouse
Well what can I say. This thing is awesome. Bought it to replace an older Bissell proheat 2X healthy home pet that was given to me long ago and it finally gave up the ghost a few weeks ago. Did lots of research on this and the rug doctor and this was the better choice. It is constructed of heavy grade high impact plastic and has a very sturdy feel to it. It’s actually built better than I expected but seeing as this machine is commonly used as a rental or contractor unit you know it’s built to handle that kind of use. Be warned. It is a heavy machine weighing in at around the 40 pound range give or take but that actually works to its advantage as far as extraction goes. The detachable yellow 16/3 25” power cord gives you plenty of reach so there’s less hassle with having to change plug-in locations. The large high capacity 1.75 gallon solution and recovery tanks means you spend more time cleaning without having to stop and refill and get rid of the dirty water. Sound level isn’t too bad considering it has a rather large vacuum motor. It kind of sounds like an older shop vac. Even with the brush roll motor running it’s still not too bad. Now let’s talk about what matters. How it cleans. Unlike the rug doctor, this machine cleans on both the forward and backward pass instead of just on the backward motion of the rug doctor. The high pressure spray and large multi row brush roll make quick work of heavily soiled carpets and the powerful suction pretty much picks up everything it puts down so the carpets dry rather quickly. The key to peak performance is you MUST thoroughly vacuum prior to using any kind of carpet extractor. Also, make your cleaning passes with a slow steady motion so the machine can do a thorough job. Especially important so the suction can extract the dirty water more thoroughly. What I do is make one forward and backward pass with the solution trigger squeezed then one forward and backward pass over the same swath with trigger released for a good extraction. Using hot water from the tap (not boiling) with the recommended amount of carpet cleaner per the instructions aids in better cleaning. Cleanup afterwards is a breeze. The entire top of the recovery tank comes off so it’s easy to empty and rinse out when you’re finished cleaning. Good idea also to rinse out the clean water tank and let both sit open to dry. Give the brush roll a cleaning to get any carpet lint from the bristles and in the brush area. I always run a little plain water through the system to flush out any soap residue in the pump and lines and spray nozzle. All in all I consider this machine a great choice for anyone looking for a high quality extractor. With proper care and maintenance it will last many years. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Strong, durable, cleans great, but there are down sides to consider in my review.
Let me begin by saying this is a workhorse of a machine. It cleans thorough backwards and forwards, has a good size fresh water tank, extracts water from the carpet well, and overall is 5 stars. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ The bad: it’s slightly heavy and awkward, it’s a pain to haul up and downstairs with no real convent way to do it, and the dirty water bin handle is a bit funky in its design. Seriously this thing does a great job I’m not trying to be hard on it, but if your older, have multi-floor use, and or your transporting this thing a lot then I’d consider my downs before the ups. Overall we have been using it happily to do the deeds as needed and it’s always spot on with cleaning. I add bio-clean to floors or stains prior and soak to rinse clean, and if there are any deep stains due to pets I soak it in the bio-clean formula and let it dry after. No more dog or cat smells as this cleaner continues to work after your long gone for the day eating away at the root of the problem in padding etc below where you can’t see it. I’d give this carpet cleaner 5 stars for myself because I’m a big guy and don’t really care how I have to move it around, but I just want people to consider moving this around if they aren’t able. You can take the fresh water tank and the dirty water tank off and make multiple trips to get them up or down the stairs to reduce weight, but would you want to? I’m married to a Filipina who loves a clean home, so Dyson vacuums and the carpet scrubber get more than their normal wear and tear. This carpet cleaner has held up better than our 7th Dyson we are on now, and honestly she should become a testing agent for their company! Don’t regret the purchase if you want power to clean forward and back, mostly dry floors afterwards, and don’t mind a little weight. Add the additional hand tools and it’s even more a work horse. Hope this helps anyone looking at Hoover or all the others we have tried or rented over the years. This is more of an investment into a commercial machine for homeowners that mean business. ... show more
