I’ve Been Wanting This Bird Feeder for So Long!

Great smart bird feeder!

We are very happy with this smart bird feeder! It was very easy to assemble and comes with detailed instructions and a high quality manual. Most of the pieces attach together with thumb screws. The only parts that required a screwdriver, which is included, were attaching the mounting bracket to the feeder and the solar panel to the mounting bracket. It has multiple mounting options using the included mounting bracket: screw to a wall, strap to a tree, or attach to a pole. We elected to use the PerchMe Bird Feeder Pole with Squirrel Baffle to prevent squirrels from getting to the feeder. My friend has a smart feeder mounted to a tree and a squirrel just took it over. There are also options for mounting the solar panel separate from the bird feeder or directly to the mounting bracket. It comes with a fairly long cable to plug into the camera. Since mine is on a pole and not near other structures I went with mounting it to the bracket on the feeder. The whole thing is very god quality and seems like it will last a long time. The feeder comes with clear plastic spikes that can be mounted around the perimeter of the perch for attaching fruit for birds or butterflies that enjoy that. Initially, I attached all 6 of the spikes even though we weren't using any fruit. For almost a week after setting it up we saw only a single chickadee. So I removed the spikes and the floodgates opened with birds arriving constantly. I recommend not using the fruit spikes or just using 1 or 2 if you want to use fruit. There is also a plastic dish that fits into the perch for putting syrup for hummingbirds or similar. We haven't used that yet. As for performance, the bird feeder needs to be in wifi range of your router for it to work at all. The app works fine. It's not the greatest interface but is sufficient. One annoyance is that it really wants you to purchase cloud video storage. You can use a micro sd card (not included) for saving videos which is what we have done, but when you open the app it always defaults to cloud storage view and you have to click the card icon to see the local storage. Also it won't automatically show the video full screen when you rotate the phone, you have click the expand button, and it only works with the phone in one direction. There is also no way to delete videos. Initially we had notifications turned on but it was pinging the phone constantly so I turned that off. They also sell a subscription for AI bird identification. We have not tried that. You can also speak through the bird feeder. Why? I'm not sure. There are settings for how sensitive the motion sensor is, how long to record video for, time period to be active, normal vs night vision, HD/SD, even an alarm. It was also easy to share the camera with other members of the family. Last comment on the solar panel and camera battery. It has been great. The camera is constantly at 100%, even when it was overcast all day and there were a ton of birds. I do wish the mount arm was designed to hold the solar panel above the feeder so it could be rotated in all directions. As it is when mounted to the back of the feeder you can only tilt it so much or it hits the feeder and although you can rotate the mounting bracket to either side of the feeder you can't easily have the solar panel facing the same direction as the front of the feeder.

Camera bird feeders bring me so much joy, and this model is a 10/10. Pros: - Comes pre-assembled, I just needed to attach the roof and perch. - Multiple ways of hanging, it includes a strap if you plan on attaching to a pole or tree without screws, and a platform that would work to attach to a wall/deck or pole. Guides for where to attach screws is included which makes the installation process so easy. - Once you pair your camera via Bluetooth to your phone and download the Vico app you can get notifications for when birds visit, and it also allows you to watch and download videos onto your phone for sharing. - Through the app you can customize settings like length of video recording, cooldown and motion sensitivity. - Roof opens to put seeds inside, and keeps seeds dry if it rains. - Camera angle can be adjusted so you catch the best angle of your visitors. - Recordings are good quality, full color, and with sound. - Camera has night vision (we’ve caught raccoons in the past haha) - Camera is motion activated so it preserves battery life when there’s nothing going on. - We have our solar panel with partial sun and it’s still enough to power the camera a full day.

Got this as a Christmas gift for my mom. She absolutely loves it! She never thought she would enjoy seeing the birds come so often but the pictures are clear and she’s named all the birds. The squirrels love this too, so make sure you have a plan to prevent them from eating up all the food.

Good product but hard to clean

I bought this almost a year ago and it has stood up fairly well. Good quality pictures. My only two problems are the drainage holes easily get clogged up with smaller seeds, and it is a pain in the butt to clean.

Works great! Camera is better than common security cameras. Doubles as security in yard! Does great with close up and far bird clarity. You do need to clean lens occasionally of course and it does get a lot of empty shots. Library only saves 2 days without subscription.
