  • Physical therapist/mom approved!!
Style: TriLok Ankle Brace Size: Medium
After my very active and athletic 12 year old severely sprained his ankle on a bad landing from a layup, I was eager to get him off the crutches (once I finally took him to get X-rays almost a week later after a very colorful ankle made me question whether or not my 17 years of clinical experience as a physical therapist had failed me in assuring myself it was not fractured...it was not). I have recommended and been pleased with several off the shelf ankle braces with patients and athletes over the years, all of which were re-scrutinized when it was my son that was injured (why you should never treat family!). He has really high arches and custom orthotics and the severity of his sprain really had me concerned about being able to adequately stabilize his ankle AND get him off the crutches in a timely manner in order to avoid secondary issues with immobility of his ankle (he could move it up and down with very little discomfort, but had landed on the outside of his ankle, stretching all of the ligament structure). I liked the compression of this brace and the very thorough strapping abilities, so I decided to give it a try. He was able to read the directions and apply the brace himself. The first try took 2-3 minutes, the second time took less than a minute. The brace is comfortable for him, which I was worried about with his high arches, and it offers CRAZY good medial/lateral (side to side) support, but still allows for sufficient up and down ankle movement. I could hardly generate any side to side movement by passively trying to move his ankle in this brace=very impressive! By the time he took the brace off 2-3 hours after the initial use, his lingering swelling had almost disappeared. 2 days later, I was having to explain to him why he could not play in his weekend basketball games. I have my criterion for letting him return to play basketball, but am amazed at how well this brace performs and how quickly he transitioned off the crutches. This brace is well worth the money and fits up to 2 subsequent shoe sizes (he hasn't hit his growth spurt yet and plays several sports), it fits in his shoe (Nike Free) with his orthotic, it's comfortable, and it does exactly what he needs it to do. As a mom and as a physical therapist, I couldn't be happier with this brace. ... show more

  • Trilok is comfortable and helps with stability
Style: TriLok Ankle Brace Size: Medium
Editing to add another star and more comments. The first review was for a medium which was too tight. Even though I wear a size 9 1/2 shoe on my left foot, my right foot is much wider and has has two surgeries. So, large it is. The new large one fits better, and I've become more adept at the straps. I do think a better design would be specific for right foot vs. left foot and rolling in vs. rolling out. The product will work in all four situations but you've got to wrap the straps differently for each situation, which is, I think, the reason for all the maddening Velcro that grab each other and won't let go. However, once it's on, it feels good and I don't have to take it off except to shower. I feel so, so much better. I should have done this years ago. ____________________________ I've been needing an ankle brace for years, but didn't realize it. My right ankle rolls inward, it is very painful, has caused a bunion that required surgery, but, while the surgery cured the bunion, it made my foot stability much worse. Doctors did not want to give me an ankle brace, because I have diabetes, but finally, I said "enough, I can't take this anymore". Started researching, looking for a brace that would not cause abrasions. I just started wearing the TriLok today, and already am pleased with it. It is very comfortable and supportive. I feel less pain already. Unfortunately, due to the damage caused by two foot surgeries, I should have ordered a large, instead of a medium. The length is fine, the width is not. If your foot is wide, consider a larger size. Also, the Velcro straps have pluses and minuses. Plus, very adjustable. You can use the TriLok on either the left or right foot, you can strap it to keep your foot from rollng inward or outward. Minus, they are a bear to put on. My husband, an engineer, could not figure it out from the diagrams on the package. I watched a Youtube video several times, make sure you watch the one for left or right, medial or lateral, whatever configuration you need. I may change the rating to a five, right now I am grumpy because all the Velcro patches keep sticking to each other. ... show more

  • Worst Brace Ever!
Style: TriLok Ankle Brace Size: Medium
I bought this because of all the reviews said it was the best brace. It is actually the WORST brace ever. There are 3 different straps you have to figure out. The directions for use are HORRIBLE! The pictures do not match the product and are not clear as to where these straps are supposed to go. There's a foot sleeve with two straps and also a cloth folding piece. Plus another strap that wraps up high around your calf! Then another black strap and white strap...all with velcro stuff and no indication as to CLEARLY where to attach, strap, wrap, and velcro all these dangling straps....which get caught on each other because of the fabric and velcro. Then when I get it on, it punches and rubs my foot and skin causing the skin to break open and bleed. Just get a $20 or $30 ankle brace and SAVE your MONEY, FRUSTRATION, and TIME! ... show more
