I purchased this sand filter to save me from buying the paper filter from the stock filter that my pool came with. And to help me with my on going battle against algae. I had some trouble making it fit my pool but I made it work. It was easy to put it together without reading the instructions. I don’t think it was designed for my model pool. I have a summer waves 14ft x 48 Pool. The adapters that came with didn’t work. I rigged it to the old pump and the return hoes I put it to go over the top. I tried to purchase other adapters but couldn’t find one that would fit for my set-up. Once I had it up and running it cleaned my pool quickly. It took about 3 days and it was crystal clear.

I’ve ran this pump 8 hours a day for 3 years. I live in FL and let the pump run everyday to maintain the pool. With regular cleaning and sand replacement every year. It has been a great filter and pump. Running 2 on my 22’ above ground pool.

I have had this pump for a year now and it has begun its second year. It survived the first year, mostly. This filter has an issue with throwing sand into the pool because the part of the filter designed to stop that doesnt work that well as its holes are just a bit too large and the plastic on mine was bent slightly but I was able to "adjust" that part. I have found the cotton ball things easier. Gaskets.... do not store them outside randomly. Either bring them inside of in the filter basket, sealed away from the air. I am currently trying to find replacements and its not easy. Bestway doesnt seem to sell them directly on Amazon. Overall, the filter works well for the cost. You will need to back flush it at least once a week. Just how it is when using a small sand filter like this. I found I needed more than this on initial setup. The hose valves are essential for cleaning the filter to prevent water flowing in. Spend a couple bucks and buy some. You wont regret it. This is a solid choice overall though. Much better than the tiny, paper filter one that came with my pool.

GREAT RESULTS !! I set this up today on my Summer Waves 18ft pool. I made the decision to go with an external pump and sand filter and abandon the original pump the pool came with as the original pump it came with, the one inside the skimmer, kept breaking. Additionally, the cartridge filter it came with, would always leave a little fine silt pass through, even when I replaced with a new one. Took me about 1 hour to set it up and get it running. I could not be happier! Let it run about 5 hours and Water is crystal clear. As a bonus, the pump also comes with the plate adapter and clamps needed for the skimmer (the sfx1500 models) to convert to an exterior pump and filter, so no need to buy an adapter separately. Very strong suction and flow. Pool looks great again. I used Zerolite instead of sand as it is supposed to filter finer particles than sand alone. Very happy with results.

Had pump 1 year, drained it, unhooked everything, unplugged it and didn't use it all winter. Now pump will not work at all. If this gets resolved I will change rating because last year it was amazing. But literally only working for 1 year and now being over $200 more is ridiculous. UPDATE: Warranty is 6 mos. So basically just wasted money. DO NOT BUY OR TRUST THIS COMPANY.

I received this pump yesterday, easy set up but would not turn on. It was an Amazon “2nd chance” item & the reset on the plug-in would not hold. After a friend helped switch that piece out, it ran perfectly. This morning my pool was Mt Dew green & I could not see the bottom. Started the sand filter for the 1st time at about 9:30am & by 8:30pm I have blue water & can see the bottom again. My pool is a 12x30 intex, I did not have to buy any extra attachments & I am using 1.5lbs of reusable filter balls as the media.I would for sure recommend this pump/sand filter!

So we have had several pumps this size and this is the most powerful one I’ve had! It has done such a great job since I got it all hooked up I was in disbelief! Really this I a well built pump and filter and for the money it is even better! It says a timer function but mine didn’t come with that. Either way it’s well worth the money!

So far, the much smaller and lighter pump outperforms the O.G., which came with our 9 x 18 x 48" rectangular Bestway above-ground pool. It is much lighter to lug around. The only thing to be cautious of regarding the older models of the pool is that the couplings are different from the current models. Ours ( 4 years old) utilized hoses with clamps instead of screw-on hoses. We just bought some regular hoses from Amazon and used hose clamps. The formula to size a pool in gallons is length x width x average depth x 7.5. In our case, we needed a pool filter capable of handling 19 x 8 x 4 x 7.5 or roughly gallons or roughly 5,000 gallons. So far, the water is clean, and the filter is quiet and efficient with little maintenance.
