Bought this pump to replace the junk pump the pool came with. I had the pool for 6+ years now and every year I replaced the filter pump, I wanted a sand pump because the other cartridge pumps didn't keep my pool clean and I went through so much money with products to keep the water clean. This pump is great so far, you can see the water moving and it has kept the pool crystal clear so far. I have a 15' x 48" Bestway pool. I live in Michigan and have only took the pool down the first year, every year after that I kept it up through the winter and have had 0 issues. The pool itself has been worth the money I spent on it, I'll get another Bestway pool but bigger next year, this pump has been a life saver this year so far! I recommend.

Edit: after a few months ive found you have to purge after every time you vacuum, otherwise the fine particles the filter picks up will push passed the sand filter media and wind up back in the pool. But it is still running strong. Original: Had it for a week, the manual is terrible (google is a great resource). Fairly easy to assemble, make sure to follow instructions (read and understand before beginning). The selector images are not intuitive at all, would have been much better if the pictograms just showed water flow path instead of unrelated images. But the manual explains what each one is meant for. My selector lever is uncomfortably loose, but the selector mechanism seems to work fine, so we will see. The pump is very strong (compared to the cartridge pump that came with the pool originally), and a directional outlet nozzle might be a good idea just to get the water to circulate around the cirumference of the pool. A tall storage >20 gallon storage tote can be used to protect the plastic pump from sun damage, and an outdoor >1800w christmas light timer can be used for pump scheduling (the gfci plug is not a timer style, just On/Off). May require adding water clarifier early on to improve pump filtering efficiency at first, as mine didnt really clarify the water for the first few days with sand alone. Otherwise, Im satisfied with the pump, as it is a much better improvement than the paper flilter pump it replaced. If it breaks down within 3 yrs, ill update.

This is complete garbage, works amazing until the spider gasket goes… Lasted one summer, hooked it up this year and immediately started leaking, gasket failed and there’s no way to buy one without buying the entire top half of the unit! STAY AWAY

This is totally the best bang for your buck! Easy to follow set up instructions. Although it does not come with sand, easily fillable with no mess using the special cap provided. very manageable size and weight. The water flow was immediate and strong. I would recommend this for any above ground pool.
