    • Good for student collaboration
Note to reader: unless you have a large I-pad, not a normal sized kindle, you would be much better off buying the paperback version when it comes to music. Hopefully the paperback is able to be opened flat enough to stay put on a music stand or piano. I got the kindle version, and it would be difficult to easily read the piano accompaniments on a small kindle. Note to author: the table of contents in the kindle version is the same one that’s in the paperback. This is fine for the paperback, but not for the kindle. To make the interactive, clickable table of contents kindles use, try using Kindle Create on the KDP website, first deleting your TOC. Kindle Create is a program you download to your computer, and it will automatically make the table for you so the reader will be able to click on any song or accompaniment and be taken there right away. I am not a violinist, but I am a professional pianist, clarinetist, and arranger. So I won’t critique the violin parts, although it did cross my mind to wonder why there are no dynamics in any of the music. But perhaps, unlike beginning piano & clarinet, beginning violinists aren’t taught about dynamics until later. I was mostly interested in the piano accompaniments, and at first thought they were much too simple and could have easily been arranged better, but then I figured that this could actually be a plus. Any good piano accompanist can easily do that themselves as they sightread these, and having them so basically arranged makes them manageable for any intermediate piano student to play. Therefore, these would be ideal for featuring a beginning violin student with an intermediate piano student at a recital, and I would recommend it for that purpose. ... show more

    • Good selections to boost student confidence
As a former music teacher, I believe this is a very balanced collection of pieces for beginner violinists. The goal in those stages is to feel comfortable with the instrument and technique. These selections are well suited to master the technique while challenging the student to be confident in reading and producing beautiful sounds. Love the inclusion of Ode to Joy and Scarborough Fair. Two of my favorites while learning the keyboard. Providing the digital download of the piano accompaniment is a wonderful thing. (I sure wish we had that when I began my musical career) I think being able to utilize that will further boost the new student’s confidence as they appreciate the dynamic of playing a solo on top of the accompanist. I recall early on, with string students specifically, a lot of frustration not relating melodies to the full selection. The provision of that digital download is sure to assist in that effort. ... show more
