In the 3 weels prior to choosing this rail safety system, I slid out of bed twice. Because I'm a frail, 76 year old amputee, I tried to work my way into a position where I could pull my way back up onto my wheelchair and then back into my bed. It was an exercise in futility and I couldn't make my way up to my cellphone to call for help. After nearly 2 hours of struggling and crying out for help, one of my live in helpers finally heard my pleas and came to help me. Unfortunately, she wasn't strong enough to lift me back to safety so she went and got her brother and together they were able to get me up to a low step stool and from there, onto my wheelchair, where I could finally make my way back to bed, exhausted. I immediately began looking for a better solution. Amazon had a number of railing systems available, all of which I passed up on until I found this Ocarvian railing system that I settled on. I'm stubborn, but not stupid so I have also purchased an around the neck lanyard where I can call for help if I ever slip out of bed again and am unable to help myself. I believe this Ocarvian railing system will allow me to avoid slipping from my bed in the first place and will also be able to rely on my around the neck lanyard to call for outside help if necessary. I have the Ocarvian rail adjusted such that I can still swing my one leg over the rail and still be able to urinate into a bed pan, all without having a major catastrophe and bed wetting experience. If you are in a position similar to mine, I would strongly suggest that you spend some time working out a system for yourself that will fit your need and avoid the terrible situation I found myself in. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I just wish I had found the Ocarvian system sooner.

This is a great product. I was pleasantly surprised by how strong this bed guard is. I didn’t notice any weak points at all. The frame is made of steel and feels very durable. It features two legs that can be extended to the floor and locked in place using a twist-style locking mechanism. While there are some plastic components, they are non-essential to the railing's primary function of helping someone get in and out of bed safely. It comes with a lamp, but I would prefer to adjust the lamp’s direction. Currently, the lamp is fixed to point toward the bed and has a motion sensor, which makes it impractical for me. Because of this, I likely won’t use the lamp. The midsection of the railing also includes a small, bendable shelf where you can place items like a phone or book. This bed guard can be positioned on the sides or at the foot of the bed. I chose to place it at the foot of my adjustable bed, which doesn’t have a footboard, to solve a specific issue: my blankets often slide off the end of the bed. Keeping my blankets in place is essential for me, and this product works perfectly for that purpose. Additionally, I like using it at the foot of the bed for added stability while getting dressed. The overall quality is excellent. The paint is smooth, with no defects, visible welds, chips, or scratches. The white finish is vibrant, not dull or matte. The only flaw I found is with the adjustments on one side. The left side’s adjustment holes don’t align properly, preventing the pin from being inserted into the last hole. Additionally, the right side doesn’t go as far in as the left, creating a slight disproportion between the two sides. While this isn’t a major issue, it bothers me because I prefer things to be perfectly aligned and level. Overall, this is a safe, sturdy, and strong product. Despite the minor flaw, I would recommend it to others as it is well worth the purchase.

This bed rail appears to be well built and will be perfect for helping my 90 year old mother safely get out of bed. My only complaint about this is the assembly directions. No one else seems to complain about the challenge of putting it together using the directions, so maybe it is just me. I even tried to watch the video in the Amazon product info and found that worthless as well. I finally used trial and error to get the pieces all put together. If the directions had been better written it would have taken me minutes to put it together but trial and error it took me longer and left me frustrated along the way.
