  • Great tool to keep legs on bed
We put them near the end as my wife has nightmares and kicks and one of my legs works its way off the bed and then aggravates my chronic back & legs pain!

  • It slides, doesn't stay out.
The handle needs to go higher on a mattress that's 18".

  • It is a good assistive device for getting up from bed
I installed this on a captain's bed- the mattress sits in a wooden frame, like waterbeds once did. It was easy to assemble the device and not too hard to get it in place under the mattress. A little instruction booklet was included with good descriptions and pictures, but assembly is so simple that if you lay the parts out, you can see how they must go together. No tools are needed, and less strength than it takes to open a new jar of pasta sauce. There is one part it may be good to look at first before starting assembly, and think about: A long set of straps are included which are meant to be attached to the rail device and then run under the bed, fitting around the mattress to fasten the device more securely. If you think you may want to use these straps, you should attach them to the rail before fitting the parts of the rail together or you may be undoing and redoing work. I think if you have a lightweight mattress or one where the railing could come out from under it, it might be wise to use the straps. I tried mine without the straps and it felt secure and sturdy and worked fine. This is a heavy mattress, and has the wood frame around it, so it holds the railing in place quite well- certainly enough for my size. So since getting the straps under the CalKing mattress between it and the box frame would have been hard for me alone, I did not use the straps. I can put them on later if I decide they are needed. There is also a little pouch with a hook and loop flap that you can hang onto the cross bar below the top bar part you grab. It could hold a TV remote and the remote for an adjustable bed, and eye glasses or other not overly large items so you are not chasing them around the bed covers. It is not in the way of using the rails. I do find it helpful in getting up from the bed, and feel better using it. It changes how I get up, less pushing and adding a little pulling so there is less stress on wrists and back I had been looking for something that would help. ... show more

  • Game Changer
My mother had a spinal fusion several weeks ago. This has been a staple in her recovery. In order to secure this with the straps you need an exposed box spring or wood slates. However, if you don't have that, you really only need a heavy mattress. I would not use this without straps if you only have a thin mattress. My mom has a 12-inch king size mattress and it worked perfectly fine without the straps. Her box spring is incased so that was not an option without cutting fabric which we did not want to do. All we have to do was pick up the mattress on the side we were placing the rail, set the rail between the mattress and box spring. Done. The weight of the mattress holds it in place. It only took a matter of seconds to assemble the rail. My mom ways about 250 lbs and it was able to support her without issue. It is sturdy and secure. Her bed sits high enough that she has to crawl into bed but after the surgery, that is not an option. We used a step stool to get her to the right height so she could just sit down on the bed. This speaks more to the height of the bed, rather than the height of the rail. The height of the rail is perfect at the lowest adjustment. The accessory bag is a great bonus. She uses it to hold her phone, a small water bottle and her meds. There would also be room for remotes, she just didn't need them. I caught a lot of grief from her because this is labeled as use for the elderly, but it has turned out to be her favorite tool in the box. She said it was a game changer, and she would have had a difficult time getting in and out of the bed without it. I am grateful for this product and it is well worth the cost. ... show more

  • Love these for seniors or people with back pain
Reasonably priced, good construction. I recommend bed rails for many of my home care patients because it takes much of the strain out of getting out of bed, getting one's morning off to a much more pleasant start. This one is good for adjustable mattresses, but be sure you buckle it to the moving MATTRESS, not the stationary BASE or the clips will fail, making this much less safe to use. Pro tip: when sitting at the edge of the bed, your hips should be touching the side of the bed rail at a spot where you can get into bed and NOT have to scoot up to get your head on the pillow. This usually means the rail is about where your pillow lands on the bed. ... show more
