I read a lot of books on leadership and the challenges individuals have overcome to reach their goals. I'm also fascinated by psychology and how our natural instincts play a role in our personal safety. Ms. Poumpouras' book is the best of both worlds! I believe there is a direct correlation between having situational awareness and effective communication skills. Some of the same skills we are taught on how to carry ourselves, how to communicate with others so they feel heard, and how to have a growth mindset-can be applied to our personal safety. This book connected the dots for me and I found myself saying, "Yes! Now I understand how these two topics are related!" many, many times. If you're someone who strives to be the best version of yourself everyday, this is a must-read. Ms. Poumpouras is eloquent, humble, knowledgeable, driven, bold, kind, and a total badass. Where to begin? This is one of those few books I will never part with. I am truly at a loss for words. I learned about Evy recently when my Mom sent me a YouTube link to one of her interviews. I was so inspired by her that I knew I had to read her book. It exceeded my expectations. Drawing from years of personal experience which she details throughout, Evy imparts wisdom applicable to any situation or season of life. The book is authentic and inspiring. Wow!!! What an amazing book full of great information and numerous take aways!! Evy does a great job giving valuable and relevant information while tying it in with great examples from her own personal experiences. I love how the book is divided into three different topics with easy to read chapters in each section. It definitely kept my attention, and I didn’t want to put it down! I read a lot of books, and this is definitely one of my all-time favorites! I would highly recommend it to anyone, since everyone could find some valuable take-aways relevant to their own life and personal situations. Becoming Bulletproof is a great book for those who want to become more situationally aware of their surroundings and how to read people in a subtle non threatening way. Evy pulls experience and training she received as a Secret Service Agent and shares her knowledge in a comprehensive manner. You will also get a look into some of the incredible situations she was confronted with and overcame. I read this book and can’t wait for her next book! Highly recommend!! ... show more

    • Self Aggrandizing!
A whole lot of fluff and very little “help”. This is simply an autobiography that is written in such a condescending tone... The amount of curse words really make it feel like she’s trying too hard and comes off as just arrogant. No substance whatsoever and the title is misleading. The chapters on how to manipulate and trick people to get what you want, seem like they were an excerpt from an article in a teen magazine. While her career in law enforcement is admirable I don’t think it was worthy of an autobiography of her accomplishments. The intentions of this book are inauthentic. ... show more

    • Everything she explains makes sense
I am so amazed with this author's life experiences and the lessons she learns from them and teaches us. This book is very easy to follow along, mainly because she uses a lot of her own personal experiences and how the tactics she has to teach, worked on her. She goes into depth as to why people react the way they do when faced in threatening situations and how to best approach them. From surviving highly dangerous situations to simply taking preventative steps to keep yourself safe during your every day life, this book is a must read even if the only thing you take from it is one of the many lessons the authors teaches you. I think I will be rereading this book in the future again! ... show more

Evy Poumpouras is a breath of fresh air in a world where smart strength is so needed. In addition to the useful practicality that "Becoming Bulletproof" offers, its author provides a helpful template for anyone who wants to serve in a life greater than himself or herself, with both sensitive and strong ways to better understand special aspect of the human condition. Through her individual lens as an child of immigrants, an NYPD trainee, a Secret Service agent, and a Bravo game show co-host, Evy has the ability to make us all fighters in various ways; sometimes through quiet resolve, sometimes by reading what's in front of us, and if needed, sometimes by through throwing a punch. Evy's voice is a balance of compassion and New York attitude, conveyed in a manner that makes this book a quick and fun read.
