  • Awesome and Practical Formula for Connecting with People.. Fun too!
I heard about this book when the author was featured on the podcast The Art of Manliness. I love connecting socially with people, but the pandemic threw a wrench in that for me. I'm now excited to connect with friends and acquaintances again but want to do so in a fun, natural, and authentic way. This book provides the perfect formula for that! I love how Nick Gray the author provides a real step by step guide on how to throw a great cocktail party, and his process is extremely well thought-out and refined. At my last party (before this book) I was stressed out about serving drinks, choosing the right snacks that people would enjoy, and worried about people having a good time. It wasn't that much fun for me, to be honest. But Nick's book shares excellent advice about how to set things up so that everyone has a good time and you as a host can enjoy the experience. This is a gamechanger! After reading the book, I've been in touch with Nick and his assistant Ash via email and they both have been very responsive and helpful. The scripts that Nick shares in the book are so convenient (and tested) which makes my life so much easier. Another thing I appreciate is that Nick really encourages hosts to do things like have name tags and facilitate icebreakers, which on the surface may seem uncomfortable to the person wanting to be the "cool, laid back host" but ultimately create a much better environment that people enjoy! Nick shares his reasoning for why these work in the book, and he is right. I didn't know I needed this book until I found it, but I'm so glad that I did. Thanks for writing this book, Nick! ... show more

  • Amazing book!
I'm so grateful I found out about this book! The concept of a 2-hr cocktail party is brilliant, and Nick explained it masterfully. Honestly, it's one of the most effective books I've read - it's to-the-point, interesting, and prescriptive in a very friendly way - with reasoning behind everything, but you still have options to make your party work for you. I loved the numerous examples and stories Nick included in the book - from his parties and from the parties other 2-hr cocktail party hosts have thrown. I adore the structure and the detailed instructions for everything. It really feels like not that much work for a lot of fun and connection! ... show more

  • A worthwhile read for anyone and everyone
This is a great book for both seasoned hosts and someone who has never hosted anything before. I have held many gatherings and hosted many parties and I learned a number of strategies to make my events better. The process laid out is both simple and easy to follow. A fast read and worthwhile for anyone, as the more people you know the easier it will be to build new friendships and pursue new endeavors. ... show more

  • Name Tags - Good information on Socializing and Planning
Hosting client events, and parties for over 30 years, I still got some useful information from Nick's book about hosting a 2-Hour Cocktail Party. Name Tags Work... I have never used them, and thought, most of my guests came every year and knew each other...Not, so much at remembering names, my friends! So I found a name tag with a built-in Icr Braker for the holidays - Naughty or Nice Nametags were the right fit. Now I need a harmonica - I just wasn't there yet! ... show more

  • Forget networking, host a party the Nick Gray way!
I just finished reading The 2-Hour Cocktail Party and it was amazing! As a more introverted person, I am not naturally inclined to host parties. But this book showed me that hosting a party doesn't have to be a heavy burden. In fact, it can be fun and stress-free with just a few simple steps! The book is like a practical master checklist to party hosting, complete with real-life examples and tips. It's so easy to follow that even I, a party novice, was able to successfully host a gathering of my own. And let me tell you, it was a blast! I had my guests playing games, mixing cocktails, and chatting up a storm in no time. But what I love most about this book is that it doesn't take itself too seriously. It's a reminder that parties should be fun and light, not stressful and uptight. And let's be real, who wants to attend a party where the host is more worried about the hors d'oeuvres than their guests? Not me, and not you either! So, if you're looking for a way to make new friends, reconnect with old ones, or just have a good time, I highly recommend The 2-Hour Cocktail Party. It's like a party in a book, minus the hangover! ... show more

  • A party playbook by someone literally best known for hosting really good ones.
Nick has developed, designed, and field tested an effective party format and formula that literally anyone can do (he’s tested that part!), in any city or town, with any type of group and it manages to bring out the best in host and guest alike. Trust in people. Put good ones together. Give them name tags and something to talk about and never let anyone get too settled or boring or backed into a corner. Those people will tell their friends and you’ll grow your network along with your guest list. I know, because I’ve done it, I’ve seen others do it, and you can do it too. This isn’t a dull memoir with tips - it’s literally checklists, illustrations, case studies, actionable templates, ready-made scripts, and a step by step How To guide. It’s a party playbook. By someone literally known for hosting really good ones. Nick is a great guy who likes meeting people and wants to pay that forward in this book. I can’t say I’ve read anything like it before. Invest in reading it, then doing it. You’ll see rewards in less than a month, both tangible and intangible. It’s like if Covey’s Highly Effective People got in a room with Gary V’s energy and the science and thought in The Art of Gathering. That is to say, as unique a book as its author. Only Nick could write this book, so that people who thought cocktail parties were boring and company mixers sucked and that they knew how to host amazing parties already - all could learn something new and different and their crowds would benefit from it. ... show more
