This is a nice little compact charger. It has some smart technology which sounds like it should charge your battery better and safer. It goes through 9 separate steps or phases of charging for 3 of the selectable charge modes. While it’s possible? your old big, bulky “dumb” charger might charge your battery faster, it seems TOPDON has done the homework of researching a more efficient way to go about charging, without damaging your battery by overcharging. Most people with a normal car battery would select the 12V4A NORM charging mode. For those unaware, where the manual says “wet”, that’s a typical car battery that has lead plates inside it surrounded by acid, and unless sealed, normally has removable caps to add water. It has a dedicated 12V1A Repair mode you can select if your battery is very old or maybe you haven’t used the car for a long time. This is supposed to remove sulfates that have built up inside the battery. Step 2 of the nine steps also mentions it uses pulse current to break down the sulfates. You can also charge 6V batteries and 12V lithium-ion batteries, and it can function as just a 12V (13.5V) power supply. It also tells you to select that last mode if the charger says your battery is bad. The LEDs on it are plenty bright at night to see the % charged status. The product has a three-year warranty, which is nice, since so many other companies these days only give you 90 days or a year.

When I 1st unboxed the Tornado 4000 by Topdon I noticed how compact it is compared to other battery chargers I own. This one I can keep in the back of my car and it takes up little to no space. The Tornado 4000 has 5 very useful charging modes to help maintain the life of your battery. 12V4A with a max voltage of 14.2. 12V4ALI with a max voltage of 14.6. 12V1A REP with a max voltage of 14.2. 6V4ANORM with a max voltage of 7.1. With these easy to use modes it comes with a state of charge display that lights up bright with the led indicator lights. This battery charger also has a unique feature that my other chargers do not and that is error indicators to let you know if your device is over heating or you have your leads backwards, charging overtime or just a plain bad battery. If you looking for something to add to your everyday tool family to help maintain the life of your cars battery or any other house hold item with batteries I recommend the Tornado 4000 by Topdon hands down best battery charger I own.
