It did arrive without any instructions, which was frustrating for a day or so while I waited for customer service to make contact. They sent me a digital copy and I realized that the reason the hydrolics wouldn't engage was that I needed to remove the black cap on the end (which was protecting the mechanism during travel). They are comfy and the faux suede is soft. I would rate quality of material as a medium not super cheaper but also not high end. I shop on Amazon almost every day and never leave reviews. But with these chairs I had to. The quality is garbage. They are making horrible squicking noise and 1 chair is tillting sideways. Don't waste your money unless you need the chairs to last a year.

OK we just bought these two to match two others of the same stools that we love. We purchased those about a year ago. The quality of these have gone down considerably in that time. The stool looks similar but is less: less cushion, less quality of fabric, and the width is less for your buttocks.
