This is my 3rd Bakflip for my 3rd truck in a row. The 1st version was great and they keep making improvements on each new model. The MX4 had the most visible changes from my older versions includ a built in strap to hold the cover folded open (no more bungees!), a stronger clip for poll that holds the cover standing up against the cab, and dab of glue to keep the poll from vibrating loose. The ability to close the tailgate without opening the bakflip is a nice new feature but old habits are hard to break and I still open the bakflip first. After purchasing, I noticed they even sell replacement parts for just about any removable piece of bakflip and I was able to order those strap and poll clips to upgrade my older covers. The only negative I can give it is the clamps for its rails do slightly obstruct the sliding tailgate extender on the utilitrack but with a little wiggling you can slide from one end of bed to the other still. ... show more

My experience with the Bakflip MX4 cover did not start out well. The rivets which hold the flip-up support rod bracket on one of the rails where not properly fastened, so the bracket became twisted and did not fit or function as designed. This was a manufacturing defect. I notified the seller, RKSFulfillment, and they responded promptly that they would contact the factory to detemine the best course of action. We went back and forth for several days, and in the end I recieved a set of replacement rails today, exactly one week from when I contacted them about the problem. I give RKSFulfillment a lot of credit for how they handled the situation. Communication was prompt, courteous, and professional. Stuff happens, but it's how a company handles those situations that matters. Based on my experience, I would buy from RKS again. On to the cover itself. I spent about an hour or so installing it, and the end result is pretty good, but not great. My truck is a 2019 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. Installation was not terribly difficult, and the cover looks sharp and functions well. Keep in mind I just installed it today, so we'll see how well it holds up with use over time. My complaint is the fit at the tailgate. It sits about 1/4-inch proud of the top of the tailgate on one side - but not on the other. I tried loosening the rail clamps and re-seating the rail several times, but no matter what I did, I could not get the cover to sit flush. I measured the tailgate and truck bed to see if it was out of square or somehow the culprit, but that is not the case. You can't really tell unless you are looking right at it, but it bothers me because it makes it that much easier for a potential thief to wedge a pry bar under the cover to pop it off, not to mention it's a perfect spot for water ingress. I'm also not thrilled with the overall workmanship of the cover. For nearly $1000, I expected clean cuts, a precise fit, and high-quality workmanship; however if you look closely, you can tell that workmanship is lacking: chipped or broken plastic end caps, mismatched lengths of rail components, aluminum chips everywhere, and the improperly fastened rivets on the original rail are all off-putting. I'm all for supporting US-based businesses, but Bakflip needs to implement some better quality control measures. All of that said, the cover looks good and seems to function well, and I'm reasonably happy with my purchase. Would I buy it again? Probably. ... show more

    • Wanted to like it....but took about 20 minutes to decide it's junk.

I really wanted to like this cover. It seems like the quality control is terrible. Aluminum shavings everywhere including inside the joints where the rubber seals are possibly damaging them during use. The workmanship putting it together seems shoddy and to been done quickly in a rush. Screws are crooked or not completely driven in. The little upgraded caps at the ends of their rails seem to cause more problems than they solve. I installed it correctly according to the instructions and a quick burst from the water hose showed it to leak excessively at the corners. Reinstalled it troubleshot and found the leak is caused by a seal cut short and their silly little plastic caps that they say helps prevent leaking actually causes the leaking. The bed rails don't seem to be an exact fit they just seem to be within range so it creates small gaps at the corners where water gets in. I understand covers are not 100% water type but this one literally leaks streams from all corners and will fill my bed with water. I guess this cover works on some model trucks for some people but not on my Nissan frontier. Bakflip can say what they want but I am reasonably mechanically inclined and have installed this bed cover correctly and everything is within parameters but it still leaks way more than is acceptable for a thousand dollar bed cover. ... show more

I have been looking for a truck bed cover for several weeks and had even discussed it with the truck dealer where I purchased the vehicle. They installed a Leer product, but I did some research on the company and the product and neither got great reviews. I did look at other options, however watching the BAK video on the Amazon site and the 4 / 5 star reviews did help me decide. I was hoping for the item to fit onto my truck and sadly it was too big. I did everything I needed to do and saw the dimensions and put the right truck model onto the search and the item was too big by over a foot. I was given a 7 foot model instead of a 5 foot model.
