Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. For enhanced durability, the MX4 also features pre-molded, shock-absorbent bumpers on either side of the panel, protecting the folded panels from hitting the cover during turbulent driving. Rain or shine, the MX4 provides confident cargo storage that’s complete with dual drain tubes to divert water away from the truck bed, as well as full perimeter seals to help protect against water intrusion. Finally, the MX4 can hold up to 400lbs of evenly distributed weight and is backed by a 5-year, hassle-free warranty. BAKFlip MX4 is proudly made in the USA with globally sourced materials with a US-based support team. .

  • So far, so good
Just installed the BakFlip G2 cover on my 2010 Nissan Frontier. The installation was fairly straightforward. It took me about 40 minutes, and only required a 15mm socket and ratchet to tighten the clamps. No other tools were needed. The installation instructions are basically a pamphlet with tiny pictures. They could be a lot better. The first step says "Attach the rails to your truck using the provided clamps." Having never installed one, I had to figure out which direction the rails go, where the clamps should be placed, etc. by trial and error. Probably installing another one of these would take me 15 minutes or less to do. For anyone interested, the end of the rail with the silver bracket needs to be near the cabin of the truck. If you have a Nissan Frontier with the Utili-track system, the clamps will fit between the track and the top of the bed if you sneak them in at the end of the rail and slide them down to the correct position. Once the rails are installed, you won't be able to slide your bed extender past the clamps, so it's pretty much stuck where it is. This isn't too bad, since you can still use the bed extender in the position where it fits on the tailgate, but you will need to remove it to use the cover. The cover comes with 2 hoses that should be used to take water from two drainage points to some sort of outlet on your truck. The Frontier has 2 rubber plugs that you would need to remove or modify to get the water to drain out. Right now I'm just letting the water into the truck bed. The cover seems pretty solid. The panels have a metal skin over a styrofoam core. Each panel can be unlatched by pulling a cable to release the latch, and then it can be folded up. The instructions recommend holding it in place using the attached D-ring clips and 2 bungee cords (not included). If you fold it all the way up, there are 2 struts that attach to it to hold it up against your truck cabin. They included some rubber strips with adhesive backing that I used as a bumper to keep the folded up cover from smacking into my rear window. Once installed, it fits well and looks nice. I didn't hear any whistling or anything on the highway, up to speeds of about 80 mph. There is a warning label that says to always close the tailgate before latching the last panel into place to prevent damage. Unfortunately, you can't see this label if you just open the tailgate and try to re-close it. I would warn anyone you let borrow your truck about that. I'll update this if anything changes, or if my gas mileage improves or anything exciting like that. ... show more

  • Outstanding product, wish I bought the day I got the truck
Best aftermarket accessory I have ever purchased. I hate how much this thing cost but it was well worth it. Installation was extremely easy, I now have secure bed storage, it looks awesome, keeps my stuff dry (for the most part), and I have seen a slight increase in fuel economy (1 mpg?). I did not want to route the drain tubes down to those plastic knockouts at the front of the bed because I knew they would waste space and get damaged when I carry cargo up there. I drilled appropriate size holes in the corners of the bed, painted the bare metal, and installed rubber grommets for the drain tubes to pass through. Pictures attached. In a real downpour quite a bit of water gets past the seals and in around the edges of the tailgate but i think you just have to remember -- it is still a truck bed, not a car trunk. Other attached pictures show what it looked like inside after a flash flood warning rainfall. Totally satisfied with the purchase, only wish I had bought it sooner. ... show more

  • Looks good, functions well so far, overall fit and finish is so-so.
Pattern Name: BAKFlip MX4 | Hard Folding Size: 4' 11" Bed
My experience with the Bakflip MX4 cover did not start out well. The rivets which hold the flip-up support rod bracket on one of the rails where not properly fastened, so the bracket became twisted and did not fit or function as designed. This was a manufacturing defect. I notified the seller, RKSFulfillment, and they responded promptly that they would contact the factory to detemine the best course of action. We went back and forth for several days, and in the end I recieved a set of replacement rails today, exactly one week from when I contacted them about the problem. I give RKSFulfillment a lot of credit for how they handled the situation. Communication was prompt, courteous, and professional. Stuff happens, but it's how a company handles those situations that matters. Based on my experience, I would buy from RKS again. On to the cover itself. I spent about an hour or so installing it, and the end result is pretty good, but not great. My truck is a 2019 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X. Installation was not terribly difficult, and the cover looks sharp and functions well. Keep in mind I just installed it today, so we'll see how well it holds up with use over time. My complaint is the fit at the tailgate. It sits about 1/4-inch proud of the top of the tailgate on one side - but not on the other. I tried loosening the rail clamps and re-seating the rail several times, but no matter what I did, I could not get the cover to sit flush. I measured the tailgate and truck bed to see if it was out of square or somehow the culprit, but that is not the case. You can't really tell unless you are looking right at it, but it bothers me because it makes it that much easier for a potential thief to wedge a pry bar under the cover to pop it off, not to mention it's a perfect spot for water ingress. I'm also not thrilled with the overall workmanship of the cover. For nearly $1000, I expected clean cuts, a precise fit, and high-quality workmanship; however if you look closely, you can tell that workmanship is lacking: chipped or broken plastic end caps, mismatched lengths of rail components, aluminum chips everywhere, and the improperly fastened rivets on the original rail are all off-putting. I'm all for supporting US-based businesses, but Bakflip needs to implement some better quality control measures. All of that said, the cover looks good and seems to function well, and I'm reasonably happy with my purchase. Would I buy it again? Probably. ... show more

  • RealTruck BAK BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover
Pattern Name: BAKFlip MX4 | Hard Folding Size: 4' 11" Bed
My husband and I installed this bed cover on my 2020 Nissan Frontier. It is a perfect fit, nothing in the bed gets wet if it’s raining. It is a great quality. It’s light enough to open and close as needed. It aligns perfectly with my truck.
