Description

The BAKFlip MX4 was the first matte-finished, hard folding cover to market, becoming America’s 1 Selling Hard Folding Cover in just a few years. Simply put, the MX4 just looks better than other covers. Its sleek no-profile appearance allows you to maintain the appearance of your truck, while enabling you to securely stow cargo in the bed. The MX4’s pioneering, textured matte- finish adds a premium look and feel while also protecting against UV damage, annoying finger print marks, and scratches. MX4 has everything you expect from a premium cover. The engineers at BAK Industries fine-tuned even the smallest elements of the cover, down to adding cab corner caps and rail-end cap, to extending a matte-finish throughout the cover’s side rails, clamps, and elevator bolts. The MX4’s integrated buckle system and automatic latching mechanism allows you to drive with the cover partially or fully opened without covering the 3rd brake light. For 100% bed access, simply unlock the cover from either side via its pull latches and fold the cover all the way up against the cab. From there, you can prop the cover in place by tightening two rods into the underside of the panel. For enhanced durability, the MX4 also features pre-molded, shock-absorbent bumpers on either side of the panel, protecting the folded panels from hitting the cover during turbulent driving. Rain or shine, the MX4 provides confident cargo storage that’s complete with dual drain tubes to divert water away from the truck bed, as well as full perimeter seals to help protect against water intrusion. Finally, the MX4 can hold up to 400lbs of evenly distributed weight and is backed by a 5-year, hassle-free warranty. BAKFlip MX4 is proudly made in the USA with globally sourced materials with a US-based support team. .

  • Time consuming but worth it.
Style: BAKFlip MX4 Size: 5' 1" Bed
Took a few hours. You definitely need some of your own tools. Once I got everything on it wouldn't click into place that I had to flip the cover back up and tighten up the rails. Definitely make sure those are tight and fully secure before proceeding to the next step. All in all I love the way it looks. Snaps easily into place and easy to fold up as well. Not sure if it's water resistant yet. Just put it on today. There's some Cracks by where the tailgate meets it. So I'm sure it's 99% waterproof. Definitely fits really well. And super sturdy. I sat on it and it doesn't even budge. The quote to get this installed at the Toyota dealership was almost $4,000. So definitely worth it for only $1,300 to do it myself. I would definitely do it again. But please make sure you have food in your stomach and lots of patience before you start this project. ... show more

  • Great item if you need the covered space.
Style: BAKFlip MX4 Size: 5' 1" Bed
Cover is well built and very easy to install in a 2016 Tacoma. Fits perfectly and looks very finished in use. Of course, it is not 100% waterproof, but should do the job very well unless you have something extremely sensitive to water on the floor of the truck bed, i.e. cardboard boxes that might soak up any of the small puddles that eventually get into the truck bed. A bed mat and/or plastic containers should mitigate most of the risk. I am disappointed in the security of the latch design. Of course, no bed cover can resist a determined thief with a prybar or other tools. But a crook with a little initiative could easily design a way to reach in and unlatch the wire pull openers with very little effort. There are workarounds on the internet to make the cover and latches more secure, but due to the lightweight materials, and compact design for folding, those options are somewhat limited. Other fixes are more secure, but interfere with the convenience of using the cover. None of these concerns are a dealbreaker. I am very happy with the cover and I'm sure I'll get many years of use from it. ... show more

  • Great tanneau cover
Style: BAKFlip MX4 Size: 5' 1" Bed
This has been a fantastic cover. This secures the cargo and adds additional versatility to the truck bed in inclement weather. I highly recommend this cover!

  • Would Give 6 out of 5 Stars if Possible
Style: BAKFlip MX4 Size: 5' 1" Bed
This is my second Bakflip bed cover. I had a G2 on my previous truck for 7 years until I traded it in and it was flawless (cover still worked like the day I bought it when I traded in the truck). I use my trucks for frequent & very long road trips with dogs and family, so all luggage has to be stored securely in the bed of the truck. I just received the MX4 for my new truck and I absolutely love it. These covers are no profile and look amazing. In the 7 years that I had my previous Bakflip, I never once had an issue with water getting into the bed (even driving through torrential rain during a hurricane evacuation). It kept all luggage and other contents safe and dry. The MX4 actually seems to be even better quality than my last G2. I very much like the fact that the drainage runoffs are in the rear of the bed now. With the G2, the drainage spouts were close to the tailgate and it was somewhat annoying because they would get hit with bags and other cargo when loading the truck, which would cause them to come loose. That’s not an issue with the MX4; not sure if the location of the water runoff spouts is truck specific. I can’t speak to ease of installation because I had a local shop do a professional install but it only took them 1 hour. I don’t like spending money but I didn’t hesitate buying another Bakflip because I knew that it is an investment that will protect the cargo in the bed of my truck for years to come. I HIGHLY recommend this cover. ... show more

  • If you're looking for reliable weatherproofing, look elsewhere
Style: BAKFlip F1 Size: 5' 1" Bed
The media could not be loaded. Ok, I'll try to keep this to the point. Got the MX4 variant first, installed easy, looked great. Up close QC was severely lacking however. Rough unfinished edges on aluminum parts, scratches out of the box, seals look like they were put in place by Helen Keller.. then first rainstorm found it to leak from just about everywhere. Panel joints, side rails.. everywhere. I conceded to black silicone my new $1000 bed cover, but before I got around to do it a minor hailstorm totally obliterated the aluminum top panels. Ok first one going back, decided to change to the F1 due to the FRP top skin and I didn't want to deal with the unbelievably easy to dent and scratch painted aluminum MX4. After a price hike and Amazon not willing to cross ship, I floated a grand while I waited for the new one to come in then swap it. Ok whatever not bakflips fault.. but then the F1 came in. Ended up using my existing side rails that came with the MX4 because the rails in the box with the new F1 were horrendously bad. Quite literally unusable. Large scratches and scuffs, seals so badly mispositioned that there was no way to use them without attempting to fix them. Well in the process of trying to reposition them (which I should not have had to do for a product in this price range) the adhesive they used just became destroyed so I resolved to just reuse the rails from the first cover. Carrying on, I reseat my existing rails as best as I can possibly get them hoping the leaking would be solved by that. It didn't and they still leaked. I siliconed my side rails with some black silicone and that helped, but again I shouldn't have to be busting through nearly an entire tube of black silicone for a product in this price range but I digress. Alas I thought I had solved my problem, but nope. It still leaks in the folding joints, and if any amount of water pools on top of the panels it leaks through not just the folding joints but literally through the edge of the construction of the panel. I don't even know what I'm going to do at this point. Break out another tube of silicone I guess. I've read plenty of horror stories at this point of people going through upwards of 4-5 replacements trying to get a functional bed cover. It's a real shame because the look and other operational functions are spot on. Some minor issues here and there but overall I have to say to stay far away from these bakflip covers. Unless you're just looking for security and don't plan to keep anything you don't want getting wet in your bed AND don't mind the utter lack of QC, just look elsewhere. These aren't it. Update: Finally decided to contact Bak. Explained my situation, sent them video and proof of purchase and their response was the covers are not 100% waterproof and will get small leaks, use silicone and a tailgate seal. Check already done, still leaking, everywhere. I guess I'm meant to caulk every crack and crevice. I'm okay with minor leaks but even the lightest rain storm results in a large amount of water and due to all of the places it leaks I don't even have a safe place to put stuff. Downgraded to one star. After thinking about it, I feel like I got taken. Poor QC, unreliable product, no customer support. My only resolution here is to write an Amazon review and hope I can steer some potential customers away from this headache. ... show more
