Overall very satisfied with my purchase. Installation instructions were good and easy to follow. One of the plastic prop rod clips arrived broken, but after a call to customer support I quickly received a replacement part. One thing on my particular truck (2018 Ram 1500 with 5'-7" bed with power slider rear window). The rear window of the truck is bows backward in the center (not flat across the back of the truck cab) and the slider window in the center is not flush with the rest of the window. If you apply the rubber bumpers as indicated in the instructions, when the cover panels are leaned up against the cab rear window, the rubber bumper doesn't contact the window correctly. I applied the rubber bumpers on either side of the slider window and that works fine. Very pleased with the customer service as they sent me the prop rod clip and rubber bumpers very quickly. ... show more

After looking at various options and brands, I bought the BakFlip MX4 for my 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 Crew Cab 5'7 bed. After researching and visiting local auto parts retailers, I decided to go with this one based on the looks, reviews and ease of use. PROS: Easy Install: easily a one person install with minimal tools required. It comes with paper instructions, but there are multiple videos online that you can watch and follow step by step. I would recommend the videos over the paper, but the paper helps at times too. No need to have a pro do it unless you really don't feel like messing with it and want someone else to blame if it doesn't work properly. It should only take an hour or so at most. Even for the less than handy folks. It is lightweight so it can be installed/removed without needing a second person to help. My previous cover was a 1-piece hard cover and I always had to bug a friend to come help me put it on and take it off. Price: Local retailers were charging over $1,100 for the product and installation. You can find it all over the internet for a lot cheaper and install yourself to save a few hundred bucks. I went with Amazon because I had points and gift cards to use that brought the price down even more significantly. Looks: I like that it is 99% flush with the top of the bed and is a matte-ish black finish. It's a simple, clean design. Seems like it will be very durable too. CONS: Install: My main complaint is that while it is an easy install, I found that some important details were missing, such as exact placement of the top when lining things up. I spent A LOT of extra time trying to figure it out and look for videos or pictures that would help indicate where to line things up. All to no real avail. I think I got it 98% of the way there, but may need to go back and re-adjust slightly. Because close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Weatherproof: It is not 100% waterproof. BakFlip states as much so don't go into this thinking it will be. Having said that, if it is installed correctly water really shouldn't be a big issue. Water should channel to appropriate areas and away from the truck bed, but if there are any gaps, it could get in. Now that we are having our first rain after installing it, I noticed a tiny bit of water in the bed so I will need to figure out where the problem areas lie so I can try to re-adjust it slightly(going back to my install "con") or find additional sealant solves such as weatherstripping tape. Less of a con and more of a reality I suppose. I will be taking it into the snow in a few weeks, so I will be curious how it handles that type of weather too. Security: While it normally requires the tailgate to be open to operate it out of its fully closed position, if a person really wanted to get into it, I don't think it would take a ton of effort to pop it open. So I wouldn't go storing your life savings and grandmothers pearls back there unattended for too long. I would highly recommend verifying you are purchasing from an Authorized BakFlip retailer because if they are not, chances are, the warranty will be voided. ... show more

Purchased this cover for my 2018 Dodge Ram. Unit was easy to install and has worked flawlessly. Previously owned a couple of "roll top" covers. There is no comparison between the two types. This unit is designed to roll up in sections which is ideal for keeping part of the bed covered while hauling items that extend over the tailgate. Update: I have had the cover since 2018 and several of the rubber pieces on the unit have slower started to crack. Now the rubber hinge gasket has completely failed causing the panel to become disconnected. When I contacted the representative at Bakflip, he told me that the hinge gasket is not sold individually and there are no parts available for the repair. Ultimately, he told me that I would need to buy a new cover. I really like the cover but am highly disappointed in this type of service. ... show more
