I’ve been looking for a good E bike at an affordable price for a long time. I knew I did not want a hub drive motor because of the low torque and problems I’ve seen with axles spinning and ripping out the wires. My only option for the torque I wanted is a mid drive motor. Many of these E bikes with mid drive motors are several thousand dollars and I did not want to spend that much money. I bought this conversion kit for an old Kona that I’ve had for many years. I now have a mid drive 1000 W electric bike for under $1500. Buyer beware – this thing has more torque than I expected. I’ve been thrown off the bike twice so far due to the front wheel coming off the ground and my slow reaction to grab the rear brake. I’m learning that you need to start out in the lower assist mode so it doesn’t do that. Starting out in assist mode five is extremely risky especially if you are facing even slightly uphill. Overall I give this thing five stars and I’m thrilled with the performance and range. If you are even slightly mechanically inclined I highly recommend this conversion kit. You can save a ton of money and still have the feel of the bike that you are used to riding. The kit comes with a few tools but not everything you might need for your bike. Keep that in mind. I had to buy a couple of things to take my bike apart. The kit was very easy to install in just a few hours. If I had to do it again I could do it in under an hour. I weigh around 240 pounds at 6 foot one, and this bike can pull me up any hill. It has pedal assist and throttle, and it seems like pedal assist gives you 75% of the power and when you add throttle you get the remaining power. The average bike rider probably doesn’t need 1000 W mid drive conversion kit, so you really should consider what you want. I’m sure that the 500 or 750 W machine would be just fine for someone my size who is just riding around town. That extra power extends your capabilities to dirt hill climbs and more extreme to rain. Take your time and learn how to safely ride with this mid drive modification because you can get seriously injured if you are thrown off the bike backwards. Also, be prepared to improvise battery location. My frame was too tight to install inside the frame so it had to go on top. I also had to buy a top mount battery bracket because I did not want to drill holes in my frame.

I normally don't write reviews so I don't know how much information I can provide. First, I'd like to point out that the sell took the time to message me to make sure what parts I needed. The installation is simple. There are a lot of YouTube videos of how to install it. For me, the most difficult thing was to get the old bottom bracket off. I was so worried that I would strip or brake something when I was taking off the crank arms; but nothing bad happened. Good things: I can now see why my state limits the wattage to 750. This sucker is fast and has tons of torque! People doing their research like I did might find that this system can do 30mph+. I didn't think that seemed fast. Umm, what they don't point out (in my case) is using 700x35c wheels. Trust me 30mph is fast enough! Negative things about my kit: I got the 750C display thinking the navigation feature would be useful. The only way to get it working is to hook your phone up to it with Bafang's app! The real problem is that the communication protocol isn't compatible with newer phones (mine included -1⭐) . But the power meter (Amp meter) it has is a good compromise. I will update this review when I have more time or I feel like I forgot something.

Very cool project. Not for people looking for "set it and forget it". Good E-mountain bikes are $2,500+ and require you to get it fixed at a shop or warranty. This is a DIY hobby and if you like working on bikes, it's a blast. The result of this kit and a GT Aggressor from "richards" sports store. And a few other odds and ends, along with a 10ah battery was well worth it. Just use the motor to get you through tough spots or extend your ride to double. Don't treat it as a dirt bike and throttle the entire time blazing past people. This just makes people hate e-bikes. Be sure to order a shift cable sensor and the $20 programming cable (the stock pedal assist levels are not great). A few adjustments to the settings on a laptop made this run incredible. Youtube some videos on installation as well as programming the controller a bit. Have fun.

I’ve caught the bug. I want to convert all my bikes to e-bikes now. I’d say if you are upgrading, buy the BBSHD. The 1000w just makes it a little better than it already is. Very easy install. Almost had all the special tools needed but not the end of the world. Unfortunately I couldn’t use the rear brake lever provided because my shifter is built into the brake lever stock but not the end of the world. I’d highly suggest this kit as it was very complete

I installed the Bafang 500w mid drive system on my Townie 9D. Total install time was approx. 3 hours. The motor is super quiet and very efficient. I primarily use the bike on greenways however occasionally venture out on the road. The power available makes any physical effort a selection of personal choice. This package can easily handle any climb or steep grade with ease. Again the product has exceeded my expectations.

Great communication, fast shipping and it came with everything you need. The install was super easy except for installing the hydraulic brake sensors , that took some creativity and 6 minute JB weld. Get extra zip ties too. 44t chainring on PAS 9 with me cranking did 30mph but cruising on 3 and 4 easily does 20mph. Only thing I didn’t like was how much the battery moved., but it is only connected wit two screws on a round bar. But a couple of Velcro strand seemed to tighten it up good.

Bought a Bafang BBSHD 1000W mid drive kit with battery and display. Package arrived swift with no delay, content as expected with tools, cables, accessories and instructions neatly arranged. Easy install and up'n'running in no time. Straight out excellent after-sales service as well!!!!! Motor installed on a cargobike - takes me up a 30% incline hill with no problems, even loaded with bulldog and heavy groceries. Pulls like a freight train. Over all I couldn't be happier...
