Description

The BACKRACK™ SAFETY RACK provides complete coverage of the rear window while offering improved rear window visibility without sacrificing strength. In fact, if cab protection and safety are your primary concerns, then the SAFETY RACK is the solution you need. The SAFETY Rack has heavy-gauge 2” square steel frame with wire mesh constructed from 3/16” cold rolled steel that’s fully welded for added strength and rattle-free cab protection. The Safety Rack is tonneau cover compatible with select bed cover models and offers a greater capacity for hauling ladders and longer cargo, thanks to a higher profile that clears the top of the cab.

I was impressed with this rack, and I'm not easily impressed. I could not have had one made this nice or functional without spending at least twice the money (I know this, because I spent nearly a year looking into it and comparing options). I bought this for a 2004 Dodge Dakota standard cab 4x4, and looks like it would fit any of these body styles. These trucks do not have stake pockets, so mounting was done with the D330113 installation kit, requiring four 7/16" holes to be drilled. Installation was straight forward. Two 1/2" x 3-1/2" Grade 8 bolts are supplied to fasten the rack to rails. 4 Grade 5 bolts are supplied to fasten the rail mounts, though I did replace these with Grade 8 bolts and larger, thicker washers from the hardware store. It's a solid mounting design, and would rip the rails off the truck before the rack gave way. I use this for cab protection while hauling construction debris, and for hauling lumber and long materials over-the-cab. The rack itself is very well built. The welds were all nearly perfect. The steel is sufficiently heavy gauge and high quality. The wire mesh is a heavy 3/16" and welded at every intersection as advertised. Many other ready made racks I looked at used plastic end caps on the tubing ends. The Backrack has welded steel end caps, which significantly strengthens the tubing at the ends, and provides better corrosion protection. The black powder coat was smooth and even, and applied very well. The finish looks fantastic, and appears to be quite durable and strongly adhered to the metal. I've seen other applications peel or flake, and this is usually due to poor metal prep or hurried manufacturing. This was clearly not case here, and appears that this rack will hold up well to the elements and abuse I'll give it. Overall, I'm impressed with the rack itself and the mounting system. The rack is just what you see, and super sturdy and fits and works fantastic- but if you care at all about it not getting slammed and dinged up just go get it from the shop. It looked like it had been through a hurricane and had significant scuffing and scratches on the powder coat. Wasn't worth my time for to me to return it, so I kept it, but if I was going to do it again I'd probably just go get it from the shop. ... show more

    • Backrack is the best
The Backrack is awesome. We have one on the older truck and that Backrack has been in service for about 20 years and was moved from the 1992 GMC to the 2005 GMC. This rack is really sturdy and can be installed by one person. I know, I installed it myself. The welds are solid, The mesh screen is heavy duty. I purchased it not only for the protection of my window but because I can now leave the rear sliding glass open when the dogs are with me and they cannot escape because of the rack. Also because of the rack it would be almost impossible for anyone with bad intentions to enter the truck thru the rear sliding glass. Tall items can easily be secured to the Backrack for safer hauling and long items can extend over the roof without damaging the paint on the truck. Me gustaría tener dos tubos uno para atrás y otro para enfrente para poner las escaleras arriba porque con uno no funciona la compañía necesita hacer el siguiente tubo que va hasta atrás y hacerlos más ligeros porque está muy pesado

    • Amazon shipment and manufacturer packing created a mess.
The product seems rock solid. The installation was easy even for an easily-irritated old guy like me working with my dominant arm in a cast. The packaging left a lot to desire. Between the packing and a rough shipment, the rack is scuffed in several places and the logo torn up. The fact that the shipment got delayed and spread over two days left me between a rock and a hard place. If everything had arrived at-one and I'd seen the condition, I'd have requested a return/exchange. Alas, I needed to install it for work today and have no time to mess with this crap. I have contacted BackRack to see if I can paint over the scratching and scuffing without destroying the powder coat. ... show more

I have a 2019 Toyota Tacoma access cab and it fits great i added a cross bae on each side for extra strength very sturdy you get what you pay for don't by the cheap one from the other suppliers it doesn't fit.

Drilled 4 holes total. Installed less than 10 minutes. Bought some foam to install between rail and rack mounts. Solid construction. Gave up waiting on a friend to make one.
