  • A solid tablet for very little money
If you're looking for an incredibly inexpensive, versatile 7" tablet for casual use, as a kid's device, as complementary technology, or as something to experiment with Android, Azpen's A746 offering provides a compelling option. The Azpen A746 7 inch Quad Core 8GB Android Tablet is available for less than $40 and provides the expected bullet-point list of features. In the box, you get the tablet itself, user manual and other paperwork, USB AC adapter, dedicated DC charging cable for the AC adapter, a microUSB charging and sync cable, and a screen protector. The latter is a nice bonus, but these never work for me as I always get bubbles, which of course happened here for me as well. Considering the incredible low price of this tablet, I think I can risk a naked screen. The main features of the A746 include: 840x480 resolution five point capacitive touch screen, 1.3 GHz quad-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, 8GB of onboard storage, microSD card slot supporting cards up to 32GB, Android 4.4 (KitKat), front facing camera (0.3 MP), headphone jack, dedicated volume buttons, and 802.11bgn wireless. About the only thing missing is Bluetooth support and a rear facing camera. Interestingly, there are two different ways you can charge the A746. You can charge it with a microUSB cable, which is what I prefer, or with the DC USB adapter cable, which presumably will allow for faster charges when paired with the included (or other) AC adapter. Once fully charged, you'll get a little over three hours of battery life, which is not great, but reasonable for a tablet that's priced like this. Performance is reasonably snappy across the board. I didn't notice any real delays in opening programs, text entry, or playing games or videos. While I'm sure this will not do well with the most demanding applications, there was nothing I tried where I found it particularly lacking. Of course, a few areas that I did find lacking were in the screen's viewing angles, which are rather limited, and in the built-in speaker's audio quality, which was thin, not very loud, and poorly placed on the rear of the unit. Again, though, for the price and what you'll likely use this for, neither of those issues are particularly surprising nor should they necessarily be deal-breakers. For the price, this is a pretty great deal with lots of thoughtful features. Even the included user manual is rather extensive. If you need a tablet in this class, it's hard to go wrong with the A746. Thanks to Azpen for the review unit. ... show more

  • Great unit for the money
7 year old uses it and it holds up. Has memory expansion slot and works well. Uses Amazon store for apps. Battery life is good, 3 hour complete recharge time.

  • Pretty good tablet for not much money.
I bought this tablet to keep my kids occupied on a recent road trip. I loaded a bunch of DVD rips onto a 32 GB microSD card, and then installed a handful of games from the Google Play store. The tablet worked great, and even though we had an iPad 3 along, this tablet with all it's video storage was the one they were fighting over. It couldn't install a handful of games like Terraria, but Minecraft, Settlers of Catan, and a bunch of others worked great. Pros: Good CPU and video performance. Mostly stock android 4.4 with full access to the play store. Expandable storage with a micro SD card. This will play netflix really well and you can load up a lot of DVD rip videos onto an SD card and play them with VLC. Sturdy, and holds up well to abuse. Cons: The screen doesn't have very good side visibility, but it looks OK from face-on. Battery life isn't great. It will play videos or games for about 3 or 4 hours, but it will charge off a car USB charger and play videos or games indefinitely. The screen feels plasticy and scratches really easily. (It does come with a screen protector.) No GPS, and only 2.4 Ghz Wifi. No Bluetooth. The built-in storage promises 8 GB, but it's split into a 2GB 'app' partition and a 6GB 'data' partition, which means you're limited in how many apps you can install. If you want a cheap tablet for the kids to play on, or something you can leave on the end table or in the kitchen to look something up occasionally, this is surprisingly good for the money. ... show more

  • Works ... but Don't Expect Miracles at this Price
You can't expect an under $40 tablet to perform like an iPad and this one didn't. It functioned to a usable level but had several shortcomings. These were a very washed out screen, slow response time, and what seemed a severe lack of storage. I loaded a few apps and quickly ran out. Maybe I just got a bad example but I've had other 8GB tablets that held a lot more. In the end, I returned it and got a similarly priced RCA-branded unit with the Lollipop operating system which, in my observation, works better than the older Kitkat OS in the Azpen. ... show more

  • Death of a Paperweight
I bought this tablet in April it's only june and it just stopped working out of the blue. Won't turn on or charge or well...anything. Surprisingly enough nothing happened to it prior to it stopping. It was never dropped or had anything spilt on it or anything that I could see contributing to its demise. It simply died. I would have loved to have given this a much higher review, this was what I considered a fantastic tablet for the price. It wasn't particularly fast and did not have a very long battery life but it still did exactly what I needed it to do which was wonderful considering how little it cost. I can not properly express just how disappointed I was when it just went dead. Now instead of an affordable tablet I have an expensive paperweight. ... show more

  • Great tablet
I really love this tablet. It is easy to use and had all the features I want. It is basically and game player. I am 63 and can use it easily. It is light and the battery lasts a long time before needed recharging.

I bought this budget tablet expecting to use it as a time clock, but it was rough even in a single-app capacity. It's so budget as to be nearly unusable. The screen is difficult to view at basically every angle, and it's slow as molasses. I can't imagine who would want this... Perhaps for a child or an art project? ... show more
