  • Simple install. Fit Model Y perfectly. Looks great.
Ok was a bit nervous about aftermarket roof rack bars - but decided to give it a try since Tesla is charging 3X the cost. I found a video online by searching the brand name and Telsa and was able to follow it very easily. The only challenge I found was making sure you gently pull back the weatherstripping when putting the hook bolts in place. I used a tiny flathead screwdriver to lift the weatherstripping and then the provided plastic tool to slide into gap. Also...Of course anytime you are tightening down four corners of anything with bolts - you want to make sure you evenly crank down on the hand-tightening bolts to make sure the pressure is evenly distributed and the rack bars are adjusted into place properly. I found the provided torque wrench a little confusing but realized you just pull on the black handle until it slips and won't tighten anymore. This was just about 1/2 turn tighter than hand tightening. I didn't experience any noises or other problems. The rack seems super solid and will drive and test tomorrow! ... show more

  • Clips included with this product don't fit
Unfortunately the clips that are included with this kit do not fit the Model Y. I worked for hours trying to make them work but unfortunately they are incorrectly manufactured. It is impossible to get the clips properly seated in the marked locations at the angle required to install the crossbars and avoid damage to the paint and/or glass. ... show more

  • Great budget alternative to the Tesla/Yakima roof rack
I saw this on the Megawatts Youtube channel, and it looked worth the go as a cheap alternative to the $500 roof rack available from Tesla. It arrived quickly, was well packaged and everything was good. The instructions are good, and it's an easy install after finding Tesla's locating marks on the roof glass. The only thing I had to do was trim the rubber in the t slots as they were about 2cm too long to click all of the end caps on. There is a bit of noise, I noticed a whistle over 35mph, but that seems to be expected even with the Tesla one. Apparently spiraling a bungee cord around it or getting a wind reflector can mitigate that. ... show more

  • You get what you pay for
Overall the bars work and get the job done, BUT: the tool provided to separate the rubber next to the glass doesn't work well so took me a while to get the clips in. I'm not sure why they don't provide the same tool as the OEM one. Once installed, the top of the bars is not complete level between front and back. The locks are quite cheap, and one of them doesn't work. Anti-abrasion tapes don't line up with the pads and will show after installation. And finally it's LOUD despite what the description says. As I said, they work but you get what you paid for. I was hoping I might get lucky with a good product comparable to OEM, bur looks like I will be getting the Tesla OEM ones after all. ... show more

  • Read before installing
Overall a great value compared to the $500 OEM ones. The crossbars are solid and easy to install. Only gripe is the front one seems flatter than the rear. -The included cast aluminum or steel wingnuts easily strip and one of the front bolts don't stick out far enough, so I ended up stripping the nut plus the extra included nut. I had to buy a M6 1.0 flange nut from Home Depot. They should have the bolts stick out further. (see pic) -I added 3M VHT tape to secure the side caps, since those have a poor design that damages the plastic "teeth" every time the caps are installed and removed. They immediately get damaged on the first install. (see pic) -My 22' Model Y already has arrow markings below the roof glass so no need to follow the instructions' measurements. -I did not use the PPF stickers. The bases are rubber and I'm ok with that. They won't be moving around to cause scratches. -Use common sense to tighten by hand and ignore the included torque wrench. That thing seems to go too tight. Once tight, the bars won't be moving anywhere. -Mine came with a rubber strip that fills in the T-gap, so I don't have any wind noise. (see pic) ... show more

  • adequate
The rack is well made. The hardware nuts stripped out very easily, they are only holding by a few threads and are cast aluminum or some soft metal. Three stripped out using the "torque wrench" that was supplied. I'd say, if the needle on the supplied torque wrench starts to move, you are about to strip the nut. Otherwise it looks great. I would warn against tying anything on top that wind while traveling may create uplift as the nits will likely strip under any load in an upward manner. I may buy stainless nuts and replace the cast aluminum shortly. Then, however, the locking mechanism becomes non functional. All in all its an ok rack that looks great but probably can't be trusted to hold much because of the inferior nuts. ... show more

  • No noise
So, a lot of people have been complaining about noise issues. You have to install this properly and with the right amount of force. If you install it incorrectly, you will have noise problems. I installed this a month ago, and I’ve had no problems whatsoever. It’s a great value for the money. Just make sure you installed it 100% correctly. Hope this helps. In my opinion it was a good buy for my model Y. ... show more

  • Defective product, don’t last
I bought the product less than 2 years ago, the paint on the bases has already came out and shows signs of corrosion. Made out of a bad material for this use case. Can’t recommend it.
