I’ve been using this automatic chicken coop door, and overall I’m really happy with it. It was super easy to install, and I had it set up and working without much trouble. I really like the solar power, LCD display, remote control, and especially the light-sensor feature. It makes taking care of my chickens much easier because I don’t have to remember to open and close the coop every day. I’m currently using the light-sensor setting, with the door set to open at 42 and close at 20. This allows it to open when there is enough daylight in the morning and close as it gets dark in the evening. I like being able to adjust the light levels instead of having to rely on a specific time, since daylight changes throughout the year. My only concern is the size of the actual door opening. Even though the measurements are provided in the description, it still seemed a little smaller to me than I expected when I saw it in person. Unless you physically measure and mark out the dimensions beforehand, it can be hard to visualize the actual size of the opening. That’s just my personal opinion, but I definitely recommend marking out the measurements on your coop before purchasing so you know exactly how large the opening will be. Other than that, installation was very straightforward, and I like the convenience of having the door automatically operate based on the daylight. I really like this but keep coming back to one main issue that makes me regret this purchase. The location of the USB connection for the solar points directly down over a corner of the door - for chickens this is generally fine and doesn't get in the way much. But if you have goats who invariably like to see if they can fit in the door you will find this position leads to the USB connector getting broken. Repeatedly, as you have new goats discovering this one trick to drive you insane. It'll get pushed in on the way in and pushed out on the way out bending it back and forth until it snaps. It is irritating to have this breaking so easily when it could easily have been avoided if the USB connection was located on the side and facing down - or anywhere really except in front of the chicken door. At the very least if it had included a waterproof, low profile right angle connector it would have been more resistant to damage and would have looked better without a cable connection sticking down as a bonus. Finding that kind of adapter as a consumer has been like looking for a needle in a haystack, making repairs to the solar setup frustrating. If you plan on using this anywhere a goat may slip in to wreck havoc, do yourself a favor and use a waterproof adapter from the start - that way if they do break a connector it can easily be replaced without having to replace and redo your solar panel. You don't want to have to replace the panel like I did the first time due to the panel connector being broken off. Other notes: One of the selling points was the light sensor but I never got that working satisfactorily and ended up just switching to time based. Time based can be a bit annoying given you need to adjust it throughout the year - I really wish there had been a WIFI connectivity feature to at least let me manage that remotely. I would also note that the display is difficult to read during the day so I often must adjust times in the evening to actually see what I'm doing - this seems to be partially the angle of viewing the display (since the door is low toward the ground) and possibly some age related degradation of the screen. I'm pretty sure it was easier to read in bright daylight when I first installed it. It rarely gets stuck but I don't think that is any real problem - it just needs a bit of maintenance cleaning due to the dust and other debris that can jam it up. It has stuck closed/open maybe 3-4 times in the 2 years I've run it which is pretty good considering we are in a dust control zone. ... show more

I have bought two of these- one for the coop and one for the run and they are very nice quality. Working great 2 years later without any problems. I recommend you set it based on time vs light otherwise on cloudy days it will close early. Easy to assemble and even my larger chickens (marans, roosters, and jersey giants) have no problem fitting through ... show more

I've been very happy with this automatic chicken coop door. Installation was easy, and the combination of the timer and light sensor makes it very convenient. The door has been operating reliably and opens and closes smoothly, which gives me some peace of mind that the chickens are getting in and out when they're supposed to. The solar charging has also worked well, so I haven't had to worry about constantly charging or replacing batteries. The remote has also come in handy a couple of times, and I've been able to operate the door from about 20 yards away. The only minor issue I've noticed is that occasionally the door will open and close multiple times before settling into the correct position. It eventually ends up where it needs to be, so it hasn't been a major problem. Overall, this has worked extremely well for me and has made managing the chicken coop much easier. ... show more

We have been using this for about 2 months now. Got it mid January right before some super cold weather to make sure our girls stayed safe and warm. I was really happy with it at first. I had set it to open at a certain time and close about 12 hours later. You can set it that way (by time) or set it based on the sun rise and set using the solar panel. It says it has a safety feature where if a chicken or something is in the way of the door it will stop going down and go up. I tried it out before installing it using my hand and it had to go down and press with more force than I expected before it finally went up. Chickens are pretty light so idk I hope they never are under it because I truly don’t trust that. Today we did have an issue where the door opened when it was supposed to and the chickens were out. A couple hours later I went out to feed them and check on them and the door was shut! It shouldn’t have been. And I couldn’t get it to open. I made sure the times were correct and they were. So I have no clue why it shut. I also don’t know why I couldn’t get it to open. I kept hitting the up button. Holding it down. Finally after a few tries it did open and the chickens all ran in to lay their eggs. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again. And then tonight we are expecting a storm so I went to close the door sooner than the set time and I again had problems and couldn’t get it to close. I’m not sure what’s going on but I finally got it down. I thought maybe a chicken had pecked it and closed it that first time around but after having such issues closing it myself I don’t think that’s possible. I do think it’s a good door tho. We had actually ordered a different one from Home Depot but it was delayed so much that we wouldn’t get it until after the snow storm and the Amazon one came next day so we went with that and stuck with it.
