Features

  • [Upgraded SHARI PiHat] Add a 5V 1-1.5A USB-C port. Small, portable with self contained radio and antenna, SHARI(SA818 Ham Allstar Radio Interface) is designed for construction and uses in the amateur radio service, works with a Pi2/Pi3 or Pi4, SHARI RF output power is 500 to 1000 (default) milliwatts
  • [RPI Hosted Allstar Node] SHARI PiHat implements a Raspberry Pi hosted Allstar node using a Nice RF SA818 embedded UHF (420-450 MHz|70cm) radio module, often used to build a personal RF "hot spot" AllStarLink node. In order to create an Allstar node, SHARI plugs into two USB jacks on a Raspberry Pi2/Pi3/Pi4 or Pi5 for power, the Allstar interface and radio programming (a short M/F USB extender cable can be used if desired)
  • [Power Supply] SA818 Ham Allstar Radio Interface is a power supply intended for the version of the Raspberry Pi. These supplies typically provide 5.1 to 5.2 VDC to the Pi. Please Note: Current requirements vary with version. Numerous problems with Allstar Nodes have been traced to inadequate power supplies
  • [Indicate Status] Front panel LEDs indicate the status of SHARI-POWER (green), USB Audio CONNECTION STATUS (blinking green), COS (green) and PTT (red); SHARI PiHat uses 5 volts from the Pi, and the best place to measure it is from pin 8 (+5) to pin 9 (GND) of the SA818 module
  • [Radio Module] SHARI PiHat uses a single circuit board which contains installed surface mount (SMD) parts as well as 2 through-hole parts, a surface mount SMA connector and the SA818 (UHF) radio module; PiHatU also uses the Cmedia CM119B USB audio IC
  • [Setting Up the SA818 RF Module on ASL3] Two new commands have been added to ASL3 Pi Appliance systems for module programming: SA818-menu, a visual interface for configuring RF module settings, and the sa818 command line interface for users who prefer manual coding

  • Perfect 👌
It works like a charm, great product.

  • It Works!
I had a Raspberry Pi 4 sitting in a box and doing nothing. And since I've wanted to have Allstar access for quite awhile I made the purchase. Creating the Allstarlink 3 instead of Hamvoip. No problem creating the image. It took a bit of back and forth with the node settings, but YouTube to the rescue. Ham Radio Crusader and Grayman POTA have some great videos, and I recommend them. Even if you have to buy a Raspberry Pi, the total cost is much less $$ than an out of the box solution like Clearnode. ... show more

  • Works well
I received this unit yesterday. In the box was the unit and an antenna. Nothing else. The cables pictured in the listing were not included and there were no instructions or a user manual. Update: Upon contacting the seller, they provided a refund which more than covered the cost of ordering cables. I'm going to try setting it up myself with cables that I have, but if I'm not succesful, it's going back. Update: After watching a few YouTube videos, I was able to get the unit configured and running. Not that bad even with my limited Linux knowledge. Further update and downgrade: I originally had this running on a Raspberry Pi 4, but since I had a spare Raspberry Pi 2B, I thought why not put it on that and free up my Pi 4 for more intensive applications. Problem is, it won't run on a 2B. The connections are intermittent and the COS LED lights up constantly even though it isn't receiving anything. Sometimes it will connect to a node, sometimes not. Bottom line is, if you're planning on running this on a 2B, don't. It won't work. ... show more

  • Shari PiHat SA818
Relatively easy to setup as an Alstar node. Have been running mine for several months now. Only thing is that I would have liked to have 2 USB cables, rather than the 1 sent, has I have my unit sitting on top of the Pi case rather than off the end.

  • Works well as a local Allstar simplex repeater node
I am happy with the product. Range on the stubby antenna is about 2 miles to my hand held in the upstairs of my home. Setting up is a bit of a pain but that is due to the Allstar learn up. Now I can talk to the world. Clear audio and nice features in Allstar. Get your ham license and get on the air.

  • AURSINC PIHAT ISSUE
The first one of these i bought had issues connecting to a pi and staying connected, once connected it would loose it occasionally because of a weak usb cable not making good contact with the ports on the back of the hihat. The first one i got had Green operating lights and the new one there Red, not sure why that is maybe they ran out of Green ones i don't know but it works so we'll see how it goes. ... show more

  • Good once I got it working
Works fine on a Pi 5. All-star is fun once I got it working. Band isn't as active as I hoped, but lots of good QSOs and Nets. de AA2CO
