Top Amazon Reviews
Lightning-fast, reliable, and built for performance — highly recommended.
Capacity: 4TB
Style: SN850X
I’ve been using this drive for a few months, and it’s easily one of the fastest and most stable Gen4 SSDs I’ve tested. Benchmarks reached 7,133 MB/s read and 4,169 MB/s write in performance mode — right in line with WD’s specs. Even under load, it maintained around 6,500 MB/s read and 3,600 MB/s write, showing great consistency. For testing purposes, I also ran a power-saving “stress” scenario that intentionally limited performance to simulate extreme throttling. Those results were only for analysis — customers will never experience that kind of slowdown in normal use. Thermals stay solid with a basic heatsink (mid-50 °C), and there’s no throttling during long transfers. The WD Dashboard software is easy to use and adds an optional Gaming Mode for max speed. ⚖️ Pros: - Reaches full Gen4 performance (7,000+ MB/s reads) - Excellent sustained write speed and thermal stability - Rock-solid reliability for OS, games, or content creation - Intuitive WD Dashboard software ⚠️ Cons: - Can run warm without heatsink - Requires a PCIe Gen4 slot and good airflow for full speed 🏁 Final Thoughts: The WD_BLACK SN850X is a premium SSD that lives up to its reputation. Under the right conditions, it delivers near-theoretical Gen4 speeds and flawless stability. Even in multitasking or gaming scenarios, performance stays consistent and responsive. The “low” benchmark results included here were testing artifacts—stress conditions designed to show how power management affects throughput, not what normal users should expect. In everyday use, this drive is exceptionally fast, reliable, and built to last. ✅ Verdict: A flagship-level NVMe SSD that rewards systems tuned for performance. Highly recommended for gamers, developers, and creators who want speed with zero compromise.

"These prices!"🤯
Capacity: 8TB
Style: SN850X
It's a great SSD but, I was fortunate to get it for less than $600 at the time. If you can get it for a reasonable price I do recommend. The Sabrent heat sink I use is excellent as well and not expensive. Using both in "fat" Playstation 5.

Extremely Fast But Comes at a Premium
Capacity: 1TB
Style: SN850X
TL;DR This is an incredibly fast PCIe 4.0 SSD, no doubt about it. Performance is top-tier. However, the price is pretty steep compared to the competition, and the new "Game Mode 2.0" feature feels more like a marketing point than something that makes a real difference in my experience. Full Review: I decided to pick up the 1TB WD Black SN850X, partly because its predecessor, the SN850, was so popular. The high-end SSD space has gotten incredibly crowded, so I was curious to see if this new drive could really compete with some of the other major players. WD waited a while to release this, so my expectations were pretty high. The drive itself is single-sided, which is nice for compatibility and cooling in tight spaces. Technically, WD is using its 112-layer BiCS5 flash, which is a generation behind the 176-layer stuff from competitors like Micron and SK Hynix. But WD has a reputation for getting fantastic performance out of its hardware and firmware, and that seems to be the case here. They clearly know how to make the most of what they have. Performance is where this thing really shines. During my own file transfer tests, the write speeds were huge, holding over 6.4 GB/s for a very large cache of almost 250GB. After that cache fills up, the speed does drop to under 1 GB/s, which is expected. For gaming and general use, you're almost never going to notice that drop-off. It’s just blazing fast. My main point of skepticism is the "Game Mode 2.0" feature. The included Dashboard software is pretty good and lets you toggle this mode. It’s supposed to do fancy things like predictive loading and adaptive thermal management. Honestly, it's hard to tell if it's just a gimmick. The drive is already so fast that I couldn't perceive a real-world benefit from this mode being on. It feels a bit like a solution in search of a problem. So, while the performance is excellent, the price gives me pause. It's a hard sell when you compare it to other top drives that are often cheaper. The SN850X is an amazing performer, but you are definitely paying a premium for the WD Black name. It's a great drive if you can find it on sale, but at its full retail price, you might find better value elsewhere. --- For anyone interested, the exact product I purchased was listed as: WD_BLACK 8TB SN850X NVMe Internal Gaming Solid State Drive with Heatsink - Works with PlayStation 5, Gen4 PCIe, M.2 2280, Up to 7,200 MB/s - WDS800T2XHE The ASIN for the version I received was: B0B7CKVCCV

Pros: 1. Blistering Speed: The Gen4 PCIe interface and M.2 2280 form factor of this SSD offer speeds of up to 7,300 MB/s. This means lightning-fast loading times for games and near-instantaneous data access. 2. Massive Capacity: With 4TB of storage, you have ample space for your game library, multimedia, and work files. No more worrying about running out of storage or needing to juggle files. 3. Works great with the Sabrent enclosure.
Capacity: 4TB
Style: SN850X
Buying this was my first venture with NVMe SSD, and I bought it along with the Sabrent enclosure. So far, very impressed with both items - they work very well together and seem to make heavy duty data transfers doable in a very reasonable and short time - like even a Time Machine back-up. Being new with NVMe, maybe I am too easily impressed - but impressed I am, and very happy with my purchase. NOTE: Another version of this very same NVMe model is sold that has its own Heat Sink. I bought that first and then had to return it because it does not fit in the Sabrent. It may appear that its Heat Sink is removable, but from what I understand, removing it will void its warranty - and I wasn't comfortable with the thought of removing the Heat Sink myself to begin with when I saw it. With my luck, the manufacturer released a new version of this NVMe soon after I bought this. Still, very happy with my purchase and keeping it.

Fast and did exactly what I wanted
Capacity: 4TB
Style: SN850X
Went from a 1TB NVME to a 4 TB NVME. I had a Skytech Gaming computer that for whatever reason only came with 1TB storage. It had an extra slot for NVME, but it is under the video card which I had no desire to mess around with and if needed later I can use. I cloned the 1TB onto this 4TB (WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB NVMe SSD - M.2 2280) with a Coolpie CR220 cloner that I got off of Amazon. The clone process is simple. Put new NVME and old NVME in slots of the cloner, turn on, set switch to copy and press button to run. Videos I watched said the process could take hours, mine took about 15 minutes from a 90% full 1TB to the 4TB new NVME. When I put the new cloned 4TB in my computer it booted and everything worked just fine. This 4TB has faster Read/Write and is 4x the storage of what I came from. After adding this my fans now run quieter as my computer isn't trying to use the last remaining storage of the 1TB and now has 3 more TB to work with. If you are doing a clone and want to adjust/extend partitions, I recommend using the free program MiniTool Partition Wizard. I used it to extend my partition, otherwise you will be creating a new partition(s) with the storage that this adds (if you are coming from a smaller NVME to this 4TB). I chose the WD_BLACK SN850X 4TB NVME SSD - M.2 2280 because the videos I watched with regards to gaming storage/NVME, recommended this over others.

Great and Fast high capacity NVMe SSD
Capacity: 4TB
Style: SN850X
I picked up the 4TB SN850x. It arrived from Amazon the same day. I replaced a Samsung 1TB 980 that was nearly full. I pre-loaded the WD Acronis & Dashboard software (that you can download from their website). I placed this drive in the 2nd NVMe slot on my mother board. I formatted the drive and then started Acronis. The migrations was easy, just make sure you read carefully so don't migrate the wrong drive and erase everything. I was amazed how quickly it migrated nearly 1TB of data, it took less than 10 minutes. I shut down the PC, removed the old drive, placed the new SN850X in the old drives slot and was back in action. My Intel ethernet port stopped functioning, but I am not 100% sure it was related. I had to disable it in the BIOS, restart the machine, enable it again and then it worked. Only mentioning it in case it happens to you. Anyhow, the who process was quick and relatively simple. The drive claims it can read at 7,300MB Per Second and I am calling BS on it. I ran a benchmark several times and at best pulled 6,800MB Per Second. That is my only complaint. My machine is high end, a fast CPU a ton of RAM and had nothing else running. I had everything under the dashboard enabled, googled how to optimize it...... There is a chance that perhaps I did something wrong, but I do not think that is the case and if I have to do 4 hours of research to figure it out, that is on them for making it too complicated. Aside from that, the drive is awesome and a great deal for the capacity and performance you get from it. I would purchase it again. Samsung's software is a little better in my opinion, but perhaps that will improve in time.
