  • Good spreader for homeowners, very easy assembly Good spreader for homeowners, very easy assembly
Our yard is about six acres. The lawn isn’t bad for the most part, but a few areas could be better. My husband had soil tests done. They showed the lawn needs lime, but the only spreader we had was a small, walk-behind drop spreader. We needed something that could cover more area, and I was happy to get this Augfir spreader to tow behind our smaller tractors. This spreader can be assembled by one person, but it’s easier with two. The instruction manual is excellent, but even better is the video showing the assembly. A QR code for the video is in the beginning of the manual, and I strongly recommend watching it. The hardware is sorted and bagged by step and clearly identified with a letter code, the type of bolt, and a line drawing showing where it goes. All of the tools you need for assembly are included, except for a pair of pliers. The bolt holes inside the hopper are hex-shaped, eliminating the need for a wrench to tighten the bolts. My husband was very impressed with all of this attention to detail. He said it was the best job of engineering assembly of a product that he’d ever seen. Assembly went very smoothly. We only ran into one hitch, and I can’t say if it was indeed a hitch, or maybe something unique to our particular unit. The axle was not symmetrical. Measuring from the body of the gearbox to the end of the axle, it measured 11-inches on one side, and 10 3/4-inches on the other. That 1/4 inch made a difference. With the gearbox/axle turned one way, the drive rod for the spreader disk was slightly off vertical. The other consequence to this, was that the notch in the reinforcing plate that attaches to the back of the frame wouldn’t line up with the drive rod. With the spreader turned upside down, and as viewed from the back, we turned the gearbox/axle assembly around so that the 11-inch side was to the left. Once we did that, everything lined up perfectly. So, that’s just an FYI. Everything else went smoothly. The photo shows the drive rod tilted before we turned the axle assembly around. The spreader comes with extensions for the hitch and control lever, so you can move it a little further away from the tractor. The hitch extension worked well for towing behind our John Deere X580, but the control lever extension hit the back of the seat when pulled forward in use. My husband said he could reach the lever without it, so he removed the extension. After trying the spreader out to apply lime to parts of our yard, my husband said it worked well. His thoughts were that it’s a good light-duty spreader for someone who only needs one occasionally, and that fits our use exactly. Other than this application of lime, we typically don’t use chemicals in our yard, and we’re not going to use a spreader to spread salt in the winter. This AugFir spreader is sturdy enough for our use. The hopper and broadcasting disk are heavy duty plastic, so they won’t corrode. The frame and other metal parts are powder coated, so they’ll resist corrosion with some care. This should be a good spreader for our use for a long time. ... show more

  • Works as intended Works as intended
Ugh! What a nightmare to assemble. Hubby said that there were a couple pieces that were already attached but had been put on backward so he had to disassemble it most of the way and correct them before he could get it completely assembled. The holes on the hopper did not fit easily with the ones on the frame Once assembled the spreader does appear to be reasonably durable provided the user takes care of it and it's kept covered or inside when not in use. The tires are really nice and contribute significantly to the units stability while in use. The assembly manual was a test in patience, they are extensive and difficult to follow. Once assembly was completed the unit is easy to attach to our john deer gator. I'm short so hubby will install an eye bolt in the end of the handle then attach a cable or rope for me to use to pull the handle without having to stop the gator and get out. It would have been nice to have a hole pre-drilled but not a deal breaker. All in all, as long as you are ok with exhaustive assembly this spreader is a decent value for a homeowners light duty useage. ... show more

  • 🚜 130 LB Tow-Behind Broadcast Spreader 🌱 Big Hopper, Less Refilling, More Riding
TL;DR: A sturdy 130 lb tow-behind broadcast spreader that covers up to 12 feet wide and works well with riding mowers, ATVs, and tractors. I've tried this broadcast spreader out and it seems sturdy and well made. Build quality is solid with a "powder-coated steel frame" and the value is pretty good for the capacity you get. Supposedly the five adjustable discharge ports combined with the trapezoidal hopper design spread material evenly up to 12 feet wide, which covers a lot of ground per pass and cuts down on how many laps you need to make 🌿 The 130 lb hopper is large enough that you won't be stopping to refill every few minutes on a bigger lawn, which is kind of the whole point of towing a spreader behind a mower in the first place. The universal hitch fits most riding mowers, ATVs, and UTVs, and the included hitch extender and handle extension rod let you open the hopper from your seat without awkward stretching. The 12.5-inch pneumatic tires handle grass, gravel, and uneven terrain without issue. One practical note the instructions actually call out: don't overfill the hopper, as it can affect spread consistency and put extra strain on the axle over time 🔩 ... show more

  • Heavy Duty Tow‑Behind Spreader with a Big Hopper and Smooth, Even Coverage
This tow behind broadcast spreader is a solid piece of equipment with a big 130 pound hopper that saves a lot of time because you’re not constantly stopping to refill, and it hooks up easily to a riding mower tractor or ATV with a stable connection that doesn’t bounce around, and the adjustable flow control works well so you can fine tune how much seed or fertilizer comes out without wasting product, and the spread width reaches about twelve feet which makes covering a large yard fast and consistent, and the frame feels sturdy with tires that roll smoothly over grass gravel and uneven spots without getting stuck, making it a reliable spreader if you want something that handles big jobs and keeps the application even across the whole lawn. ... show more

  • Tow-Behind Spreader Has Crooked Gearshift Component - Unusable Tow-Behind Spreader Has Crooked Gearshift Component - Unusable
While it took a great deal of time and effort to work on setting up this spreader, I was on the last few pages of the instruction manual when I realized that the gearshift part does not have a perpendicular metal rod going up toward the bin as it's crooked (see photo attached to this review for reference). The spreader primarily consists of a black plastic bin, several metal components in a black finish, numerous hardware [including five allen wrenches] and a good size instruction manual that has fonts you can easily read. Other than the gearshift part, I believe the other components are in good shape, and I do like the sturdiness of the tread on the tires. The steps to put the spreader together are the time-consuming but not overly difficult. You will want to note that where my unit was no longer going to work involved the gearshift rod so I would highly recommend for you to take a good look at this part prior to starting to put your unit together as I was already a good two hours in when I realized this issue was not going to end up with a usable spreader. ... show more

  • Did not enjoy the assembly, once built it does more or less work OK. Did not enjoy the assembly, once built it does more or less work OK.
This seemingly simple yard machine turned out to be quite the ordeal to put together. When I first pulled out the pieces I noticed some random loose hardware and was a bit concerned. I set those pieces aside and went ahead with the assembly of the spreader. While fitting the hopper to to the "chassis" I ran into a bit of resistance. It really took more force to get the frame holes lined up with the plastic hopper. After I got that part done and the main body assembled I tried turning the wheels by hand, and found they were pretty stiff to turn (this will come into play later on). When I finally got to assemble the pull tounge and spreader adjustment lever I found out where those random bit of hardware went. By some kind of miracle the only part missing from the kit was a TINY washer, which I had a terrible time finding a replacement for. For the most part all the bit fit together fine. The bolt and bushing that were loose in the box would have been tragic if they had fallen out, because they are very unique and crucial to the operation of the spreader adjustment lever. Overall the completed kit took me 2-1/2 hours to put together, and i did it 100% WITH THE INCLUDED TOOLS. I did not use any tool that was not in the kit, no power tools. The spreader seems durable enough for the average homeowner. It is not commercial grade. I did find that the resistance in the axle assembly was enough for the tires to skid and slide when the hopper is empty or lmost empty., and not spin the throwing wheel, if used on smooth slippery ground like wet grass or concrete. With weight the tires turned fine, I think with some use and grease it will loosen up and work fine. It is not finely adjustable. It is either a trickle or full-blast when putting down scotts fertilizer and weeder. The handle can hang/jam, up when trying to close off the flow. When it gets jammed the flimsy pushing rod just flexes and bends instead of pushing. The plastic and metal and tires are OK materials. Like I said sufficient for a homeowner to use 4 times a year, I would not try to run a business with this spreader. ... show more

  • Decent yard and lighter duty maintained field work. Good build, takes a bit to assemble Decent yard and lighter duty maintained field work. Good build, takes a bit to assemble
I thought this was a pretty decent large capacity spreader for the money. Putting it together was a bit of a pain as it comes in about 50 pieces; it's not overly complex where you need an engineering degree to put it together or anything, but it sure as heck isn't a 5 minute job either. Build wise, it isn't bad what it is I think its decent quality that should yield some good service life. I think it's kind of on the lighter duty side though to be honest, something that would be right at home attached to a riding lawn mower or zero turn but I don't know that I'd try to use with an ATV at a deer lease. The "hitch" stem does have an extension piece you can add, as does the handle for and ATV type application where you need to extend your reach and clearance, but the metal isn't that thick and I think your getting into flimsy territory where your going to start bending things at that point. I do like the wheel size as it gives good clearance over yard terrain and the spreader gate lever design allows for fairly precise opening size. The cotter pin in the center of the spindle does an ok job at mixing your seed or fertilizer but its primarily going to rely on the jostling of the bucket as you go across the ground to really break up clumps and keep the feed to the spreader plate consistent. The bucket is stable, and large which aids in cleaning it out as well as having a large capacity so there's less stops to refill. Overall I think its a decent buy for the money for lighter duty applications like yard work, but less so for field work. ... show more

  • Long build time, but will save you time for years to come!
Good product, & solid build. Parts were labeled well & the instructions were clear. I only have 2 things that need improvement. The build takes too long. I don't know how this could be improved but I'm a machinist by trade & very mechanically inclined & it took me 2.5 hours to build it. There is no agitator in the bottom to help keep the fertilizer moving. The tools that are included are useless & needs to be improved. I really like that everything is attached with aircraft or nylock nuts so nothing can vibrate loose. It is a very good size for yard work & cleans up easily when you get finished. Glad I bought it! ... show more
