The augers are solid, but my wife doesn’t have the hand strength to get a solid hold on the keyless chuck on my drill, so she cannot get more than about a turn into the ground before the shaft comes loose. The hex end would be awesome, if it wet a 1/4 inch hex and would fit in a 1/4 inch impact driver, or, for that matter, any tool with a pretty standard 1/4 end.

I've only used one bit but have used it often. Drills my clay soil easily but of course it won't drill through roots of much size.

We bought this auger set for the upcoming vegetable garden, but we have already used it for spring flower planting. We were able to test out the largest diameter auger paired with an 18V cordless drill. I was concerned that the auger diameter might be too large for my first choice in drills; I was prepared to break out the 36V hammer drill if necessary. To my surprise, the auger blasted right into the soil and the drill easily handled the torque. Whenever I suspect the presence of small roots or clay soil, I'll go with the 36V drill with the handle extension... you want two hands firmly on the drill in case the auger catches and binds. Nice assortment of sizes and free garden gloves.

This was great for planting annuals. It helps to pulverize and loosen the dirt you are planting in so all you have to do is drop in the plants. Heavy, sturdy metal blades.
