This is a good stone to sharpen an axe. It is easy to hold and has the required coarse and fine grits to do the job. Ultimately sharpening a knife or axe is more about technique than it is the stones you use. It is nice that some guard oil is included.

I had the same defect as others have had. I took the pouch out of the bag and the snap broke the first time I tried to open it. So much for quality. UPDATE 07-JUNE-2021 I am updating my rating from a 1 to a 5 mostly because of customer service (but the pouch is nice too). Helko North America is monitoring reviews and quickly responded to my problem. They sent me a new pouch promptly and explained that they had a batch run of pouches where the snap stud did not seat properly. They mailed a new pouch to me immediately. I found this attentiveness refreshing in an era where most companies take an "I don't care about the customer" attitude. Would buy again without hesitation.

It made my axe sharp. Perfect grit for a working tool, you can just set it on one side of your axe head overnight and it will sharpen the edge enough to perform a painless emergency tracheotomy all by itself. It's magic I think. I leave it on work bench but sometimes I find it in my sock drawer or a kitchen cabinet. Actually, I'm afraid of it. A little. It is green on one side so, you know what they say... 2023 Edit... It stole my motorcycle last month and left to "start a hardcore band". My wife was on the back of the bike. Well, I'm still kinda hurt, but that stone is still a sharpening SOB to this day. Gonna miss that bike.

It's tight on the puck and the snap is strong. I wanted to hold them in a leather case rather than nylon... I think the price should be a lot lower though. That's mainly why I can't give it a higher rating.

All I needed to do was touch it and feel it in my hand, and I new it was quality crafted. I own property that I maintain and for which I am a steward. I always have some type of bladed tool with me, whether it is clippers, or a felling are, and usually take my puck with me. This pouch has the thickness to stand up to an abrasive puck, and fits well on my belt or toolbelt. I can now have my puck easily at hand to give a quick sharpening! It makes a great gift too.
