  • What I was looking for.
Style: Turntable Brown
Audio-Technica AT-VM95SH Update 1/17/2022. "I have been using this new Cartridge and Stylus for almost a year now and I have to say I was glad I purchased this model by AT. I wrote I could hear a difference is the sound and guess what my wife has even commented of how she couldn't believe a new cart. & Stylus could make that much of a difference that she could even hear a difference. So as like today it's Vinyl on and music turned up a little louder on the Technics SL-1700 Turntable that has never sound as well. So if you are looking at this set-up, I believe you get more than you pay for, yeah one of the times you come out ahead! I will re-purchase this set-up again when times come since they don't last forever." Dual moving magnet phono cartridge with Shibata stylus. I didn’t realize what music I have been missing just because of the wrong stylus that for years was a great stylus but how wrong I have been for 40 years. Sounds bad but yes in a way it is but I did use a good Diamond tipped stylus’s and cartridge which both were “Stanton” brand and they are very good. They didn’t destroy my albums really it just the moment you realize man I’ve been doing this wrong all these years. I did a lot of searching and kept coming back to this one Cartridge and stylus every time. I believe what this one is priced at is really a bargain compared to some I’ve looked at and they only just stand up to this ones and the price of this one makes it the one to choose as I thought it thru a while and feel like I have the correct cartridge and especially the Stylus being the “Shibata” made it the right one to buy. I don’t believe the other model of stylus is the Microline stylus is any better and I can’t see how that would make some kind of big difference. In this price range you would have to pay up big time to find something better than this one and were taking a few hundred dollars if you’d been looking yeah 7 to over a thousand or more and I don’t know to many people that would pay that amount cause I wouldn’t so that brings us back to this set-up I am very happy so far and I do hear a difference in the albums a little better bass as some said and higher guitar sounds that wasn’t there before this set-up is doing it’s job at a price I could live with. Look around and I bet you’ll come back and look at this one again. ... show more

  • Audiophile bargain.
Style: Turntable Brown
Very detailed and smooth playback. After listening to this Sibata stylus, I can't see myself using anything else. Priced equal to most elliptical styli, no comparison. Do yourself a favor, buy this and your search is over.

  • A surprising gem
Style: Turntable Brown
I admit that I get easily enthralled by new stereo pieces, especially turntable and cartridges. My most recent of many, many cartridges was a Nagaoka MP-110 with an MP-200 stylus. I bought this because I was bored (but never with the Nagaoko) and wanted to try something new and different. I'd never had a Shibata stylus before so I settled on the VM95SH. If I didn't like it I still had the Nagaoko. Wow! I mounted this (hooray for a simple captive bolt-on system) on my Music Hall mmf 2.3 and was almost immediately floored. Knotscott and other reviewers have done a great job reporting the sound of this AT. The AT lacks the lushness of the Nagaoko and presents a softer treble - but only by degrees. Percussion is tight and crisp, voices, guitar and piano are rendered clean and clear, and treble is sweetly detailed. There is absolutely zero exaggeration in the treble as with some AT cartridges, and the VM95SH is as quiet as any I've ever owned. The 95SH is a champ at placing instruments in a wide and deep soundstage. Detail is everywhere but never sounds exaggerated or unpleasant. This cartridge is as pleasingly neutral as I can imagine without sounding the least bit cold or clinical. It is simply a joy to listen to. $200 well spent. ... show more

  • Superb Sound & Unmatched Value!
Style: Turntable Brown
The AT-VM95SH delivers superb sound from deepest bass to highest treble with remarkable resolution of detail, clarity, and no inner groove distortion. In my opinion this is the best phono cartridge on the market at this price point. I also own the AT-VM95ML (Micro Linear) cartridge. They are both excellent cartridges and sound similar, but the VM95SH has a slightly “warmer” character with a more dynamic bass/midrange (more “punch”). Depending on what you prefer it may be worth the small increase in price to get the VM95SH. Or, like me, just get both and appreciate their different sound character (for probably less $$ than any cartridge that bests either one of these). ... show more
