  • Not worth $1k
Size: Without OEM
Unit is nice and add a much better aesthetic look to the interior. However paying $1k for it was not worth it. I was really hoping to use my OnX map while offroading but it was a disappointment. It doesn't even work! I thought it was just the OnX map so I tried Google maps. It was super slow and doesn't even show my actual location. After 2 months the tacoma display along with the speedometer gauge stopped working. And during cold weather the screen gets disoriented showing green lines across. I've contacted makers and had to pay a shipping fee to send it back to CHINA! They send me a another unit, idk if it was new or used. They didn't even disclose what they did or what the problem was because the new unit sent to me has the same issue! DONT BUY THIS PRODUCT! ... show more

  • Difficult installation
Size: Toyota Tacoma with OEM JBL System
Amazing stereo! My wife wanted some of the bells and whistles that the new cars have so this was one of the upgrades I chose for her 2012 Toyota Tacoma. Pros: Huge and clear screen Apps are open so you are able to watch YouTube or Netflix (of course not while driving) 😉 Integrated climate controls are very clean Cons: Difficult installation and no clear install instructions included ... show more

  • Item Returned - Direct replacement 06 Toyota Tacoma
Size: Toyota Tacoma with OEM JBL System
Edited 04/25/2022 Edited 5/13/2022 Edit 05/22/22 I ended up returning this item after about 28 days (so glad I didn't miss the return window). While my review below is a good review, and most of what I said is true (please read it if you need more info), the unit continually left me disappointed and wanting more. The unit is quite nice, but its essentially slapping a tablet on your dash - though, to be fair, it looks better and fits in there nicely. It does replace the manual heat/ac controls and gets rid of the clock and hazard buttons, and so I was very conflicted about the return. So, the reason I eventually returned this unit was because it looks great but is just disappointing with all the small flaws and workarounds I had to use to even get it close to where I needed it. If it were just two or three little things, I would have kept it and been happy with it. The issues I had with the unit were 1. Everything felt like it was just thrown together and nothing seemed integrated with the head unit. Everything is an additional app installation, just like a tablet or phone. And while that might seem like it wouldn't be an issue. For example, I purchased the dash cam that this company sells. In the head unit, to use the dash cam a separate app must be installed and used - which is fine, except the head unit comes with an app that has some small amount of OBD info (RPM is shown) that also has a window for a front, side, and rear cam. But, the cam that they sell doesn't work with this app, so it's clunky like that. Also, the OBD info in that app should include options to show more than just the RPM (and engine block heat I think it is) and if you want more detail, you guessed it, another app (which is a terrible app that is just...nm). So, the app that is for the "car info" that should show a dash cam plus OBD info just is useless. 2. There is no option to put a SIM card in the unit. If you want internet for the head unit you must have a Hotspot, phone, or a donglw (which is really just a USB hotspot). The issue with this one are simply that the system continually, every 10 to 15 seconds, acts like the USB hotspot was just plugged in and tries to launch an app. Yet it never launches except the first time and the notice is just annoying and interrupts you if you are trying to do something else. 3. The unit felt like it was rushed to market and felt disjointed 4. Again, it's just as if you took a tablet and stuck it to the dash. I will really miss the digital controls for the heat/ac system, but that's just not enough to make me keep it. 5. There were just so many little issues- like another app that has the menu items in Chinese, pops up ads (which is terrible to have ads present for an app I paid for when I bought the device) and has no way to change the language. 6. There is a lack of customization. You might think that it would be fully customizable because it's a tablet and you cam do anything you want, install any apps, use a different launcher, etc. While this is true, the fact is that the launcher the company provided is simplistic with the fonts and items within the 'theme' being too big and it's just so blegh. Also, there are two bars along to top and bottom of the screen that cannot be moved, customized, or anything else done with them and they are completely opaque. In addition, a full screen app will end up being covered up by these bars that cannot be moved or removed. Even with Nova launcher installed, its still terrible to look at and thus it's going back. I really, really wanted to love this head unit because it is such a huge improvement to the way the dash works, but.im going with a new system from a company that's been doing Android head units for a long, long time now and I expect theirs to be more polished and integrated. Perhaps the next iteration of this head unit will be better and I will continue to keep an eye out for their next versions because they could make this thing so amazing and hands down the best on the market, it's just not quite there yet. Essentially it was death by 100 cuts. There wasn't any single big thing that make me return it, it really was just a lot of little things. End Edit 05/13/22 This head unit is amazing! It fits 100% as a direct replacement, no dash kit, no additional wiring harness, for a 2006 Toyota Tacoma without JBL audio. I assume the unit for the same truck with JBL audio would also work correctly. One HUGE benefit to this head unit is that it replaces everything down to the air controls - it gets rid of the hazard button, the ugly clock, and the manual air control. It really upgrades the interior. Installation was easy enough, though some questions arose during and after installation. Apparently there is an antenna/radio adapter required, so I will get that as soon as I can. For now, the factory antenna plugs in to the back, but to do it right, I'll need that adapter. [edit] The adapter is for a newer model and so I only use the factory antenna plugged directly into the head unit. Unfortunately, there is not a built in slot for a sim card, though Syschotech stated that I could purchase a USB dongle to add this functionality. It does have built in WiFi, so if I wanted to, I could just turn on mobile Hotspot on my phone. The unit comes with a wired OBD scanner, though it might be better to get the WiFi OBD scanner. The wired uses the built-in software, which seems limited, and the WiFi uses an additional app, which might have more features. [edit] The WiFi OBD adapter does have more features with additional software, but to be honest, the wired OBD is enough for me to use on a daily basis and I'll plug in the WiFi OBD if I need the additional information only. The reason I will use the wired OBD daily is that if I connect the head unit to a WiFi OBD then the WiFi cannot connect to a mobile hotspot. This is one glaring issue that Syschotech did not include a real slot for a SIM card and to get mobile data you must use the WiFi connection for that. It would be very nice if they would release an accessory that would integrate a SIM card into the head unit vs. having to use a WiFi hotspot for data connectivity. As I do not currently have an amp, nor do I have standard dash cam, side cam, or rear cam, there were a lot of connections left empty. I did purchase the Car Camcorder that Syschotech sells, and it is high quality, though it's USB and requires additional software. The built in software to monitor the vehicle (wired OBD) has a spot to show front, rear, and side cameras, but that is not for the USB cam, but for standard cams that use the yellow RCA jack. There are two USB ports available, and I believe a powered USB hub would work, though I haven't yet expanded to use that setup. [edit] I ordered a simple USB single the four plug extension cable that works just fine for both power and data. There are some strange things with some of the software. One such is the USB dash cam software has something written in Chinese and I cannot seem to figure out how to change that. I am working with Syschotech to resolve, which brings me to the support evaluation. Syschotech has been quick to respond (within a day) and so far has been really quite great about answering all of my questions. I would highly recommend reaching out to them with any questions before purchasing. It's understandable that it takes a day for a response as they are in China and I am in the USA. Overall I would encourage anyone on the fence about this head unit to go ahead and get it. The only downside I see with this unit is that there isn't a comprehensive technical or user manual. There are videos and information available, just reach out to them and I'm sure you'll have the same experience as I have. I will update the review with pictures and video when I get a chance, plus I'm planning on documenting everything I've found out, the installation experience, the accessories I've added, and any user tips and tricks I find. It really is a fantastic head unit. It's like an android tablet that fits perfectly into the dash. While you could probably put a tablet in your vehicle, the integration, fit, and finish of this product far exceeds anything I could have put together myself. I wish I could do 4.5 stars just because of the lack of technical and user manuals, but I'm comfortable with 5 stars because I don't feel a full star demerit is warranted because of it. Also, I haven't spent more than 10 minutes playing with everything, but what I did go through was easy enough. [edit] I've tried some additional items like a specific car launcher, but it seems as if the standard launcher that comes with the unit (Nova 7 - which I use for my phones and tables already) is probably the best solution. It uses split screen and thus you can have multiple apps showing (such as Waze/Google Maps and Spotify) as long as the apps support split screen display. ... show more
