the actual screen space is 6 inches (the part that lights up and displays), the 0.5 edge is just there for what i would assume is durability and well when the case is on that part is covered up by the case anyway. it's quite slow, which for it's price is expected. it's good enough for the young ones where they can't handle a full sized screen anyway. this does come with it's own case, so while the price is in the range of other tablets with bigger screens/faster speeds/more storage/etc, for a child....yea they need a case because they will drop it. as i see it, it's more about the complete package you get rather then just the device itself. it's not powerful so can't expect it to be playing high demanding games but it certainly can and does play simple kid games just fine and youtube videos works smoothly as well. ... show more

This is a kid's tablet and it should do good for what it is made for, simple basic apps that don't require more resources than what this tablet has. I actually got it to use as an extra viewer for some apps that I have for some security cameras we have, and so far I had 2 such apps I tried to install from Googleplay but it said those apps were not compatible with this tablet, those same apps work good on my android phone so this tablet must not have the same resources as my android phone. I did get a couple security camera apps to install and have more yet to try, but I really could not complain or take off a star because this tablet was advertised as a kid's tablet and not a higher level tablet an adult might use. I do like that it seems to hold the battery charge well, a few days ago I topped off the charge and shut the tablet down and when I started it up again a few days later it was still at 100% charge, now that is with a complete shut down and not merely turning off the display.
