  • Life Saver
The media could not be loaded. I bought this beautiful little space heater a year ago in December 2020 out of pure desperation. I have narcolepsy (a sleep disorder which makes it extremely difficult to wake up or stay awake), which for me is exacerbated greatly by cold. If it's under 70 degrees in my bedroom, I literally can't wake up, not even enough to reach over and turn on a space heater. It sucks. My roommates wouldn't let me turn the heat up in the house and I was terrified of losing my job as I was constantly coming in late or completely sleeping through my shifts (and all of the calls from my fortunately very kind manager...) So I scoured the internet for smart space heaters and found that Atomi... was my only option. Honestly, at around $90, it cost a lot more than I wanted to pay for a space heater, but I was desperate. When I found a "Like New" one from Amazon Warehouse at a slight discount and 2-day prime shipping, I was sold. At that time, Atomi sold a much larger tall column-like space heater, and this one, their "tabletop" version. Even though the taller version probably would have better heated my room, I didn't have the space (pun intended) for it in my bedroom and greatly preferred the cute futuristic look of this one. I have never regretted my choice. This thing is near perfect. It is sleek and extremely well made and I love that it's tiny and light enough to fit about anywhere. It looks great. It doesn't really look like it's a space heater at all. It is extremely easy to set up with the Atomi app and fits seamlessly into my Google-based smart home. You can adjust all of the settings either on the heater itself, or in the Atomi app on your phone. In the Atomi you can also easily create schedules and start sleep timers from 1-4 hours long. Google home/assistant will only turn the space heater on/off and set the temperature in eco mode, but that's all I've ever needed it to do. Including this space heater in my Google routines has changed my life, and being able to control it with my voice is just amazingly satisfying. There is one problem to point out though- to press the buttons on the heater, you have to put your hand in front of the heat and then on the hot panel. Even though I tried extremely hard not to, you can hear me say, "Ow!" at the end of my video when I pressed the button. I seriously tried very hard not to. The face of the device is tilted slightly upwards, so it is really hard to avoid the hot air with your hand. "But this is a SMART heater, why should I care about the buttons?" is what I thought to myself when I read about this in another person's review before buying it. I've so far found 2 reasons to care about the buttons- 1. Sometimes the internet/wifi goes down. 2. Sometimes I take it with me to places where I am unable to connect it and my phone to the same wifi network. When I caught COVID and unexpectedly had to quarantine at a coworker's freezing apt for 2 weeks, this wonderful little heater was a lifesaver and heated almost her entire apt itself, but I found myself irritated at having to manually push the buttons, hurting my hand a little bit every time, and realized spoiled it's smart features have made me. It's safety features are also perfect. Out of the many space heaters I've used, this is the only one I've ever felt completely safe with. I love never having to worry about it starting a fire, throwing a breaker, or causing issues whenever one of my cats knocks it over. It automatically shuts off when it's knocked over and even notifies you in the app when this happens or when it shuts off unexpectedly, like the power goes out. I also appreciate that its automatic shut off isn't triggered by just moving it around, like some of my previous, much-inferior space heaters. The heat output is really good, especially for it's size, but it's not miraculous. The heater doesn't put a lot of force into the air that comes out of it, so it gradually and very subtly heats a room/space. It probably is ideal for like a desk or an office- if you're close to it you will definitely immediately feel it- but it does work fine in a bedroom or even in a small apartment. Using it in my bedroom (depending on where I place it) I usually don't really feel a big difference in temperature over the first several minutes I have it on, but then between 10-15 minutes later it'll hit me that the room isn't cold anymore, and sometimes that it is actually too hot! It really can heat up a space, it just does it gradually and subtly. Placement is an important factor. My instinct seems to be to put it on a dresser or table, but as I've previously mentioned, the face of the space heater does have a slight upward tilt, meaning that the heat comes out in an upward angle. When I first started using it, I put it on my dresser, about 3ft high. I thought at first that the heater was a dud, until I realized that the air ABOVE me on my ceiling was very hot! I've found it's best to put it on the floor or on a surface 1-2' off of the ground. It's so compact that luckily it's always easy for me to find a place to put it. Placement is also important when you're using the ECO function, which is great and all I ever use. The ECO function turns the heat on and off as needed to keep your space at your preset temperature. It works perfectly, better than any other space heater I've had, except on the rare occasion that it's just placed in a bad spot where it's sitting in its own heat. Setting the heater to turn back and forth is really effective for spreading heat around and can stop this issue, as can moving it. There's only one issue I actually have with this heater, and when I read about it in in many other reviews before purchasing, I really didn't think it would bother me. But it does. The BEEP. I don't think my video properly conveys how loud it is. I just don't know why it needs to beep in the first place, and then they chose to give it the most ostentatious of beeps! Anytime you change the temp, turn it on or off, change a setting, or wifi comes off/on, it BEEP!s, regardless of whether you do so using its buttons, the Atomi app, Google Assistant, or the Google Home app. I generally try not to change any settings just to avoid the extremely loud "BEEP!" The BEEP! is the only thing I would change about this device. Apart from that, it's 10/10, a life saver, 100% what I needed, extremely adorable, and so well-built I really think it will be a few decades before I have to go buy a new space heater again. ... show more

2nd update: All 6 now function. The replacements did work. No fan issues. 4 stars. I advise anyone who gets this to listen to the fan. It should be smooth and consistent. Not sound like crickets or rattle. If it does you need to exchange it immediately because it means the fan is failing. Think computer fan. 1st update: -‐---------------- I received 4 of these after I bought 2 initially that worked. 3 of the 4 had failing fans. You can hear the cricket sounds when they run, which means they will give out shortly. The 4th was quiet like the first 2 that I bought. I will update this review to higher stars assuming they replace with units that do not have failing fans. But I don't think I would go higher than 4 stars at this point, given that 50% of my units were malfunctioning.. I did find instructions by the way. But they are on the box. Missed them the first time. First review ---------------------------------- I initially bought 2 atomi tabletop space heaters (white and awesome to look at on a white nightstand). Now I have 4 more on the way because I want to put them in separate rooms (on different breakers). These atomi heaters are everything I need (I believe) for a 1750 sq ft smart/solar house. I'm right now in the middle of fixing my natural gas furnace, but when I started using these atomi heaters, I realized...why do I even need my gas furnace? I overproduce on solar, so I can probably get by just heating my house with these..saving maybe $1500 in gas costs. Even if financially this doesn't work out to use these during the daytime ($/Kwh goes up about 8 times more in the daytime in cali) and I have to switch back to using the gas furnace during the daytime, I believe running the atomi heaters at night time only will still help me preserve the longevity of the gas furnace and reduce costs over time. Things to note: Atomi did not include any instructions (at all) in the boxes of the smart heaters. Weird! But just download the atomi app on google play using your smart phone. They should probably put in a note that says to do that. Maybe it's on the box. Who knows. Most smart house owners know to do this, but new people to smart houses may not know to do that. My guess is that atomi is still a bit new to customer service. But I can see they are working hard and I won't fault them for that. Their product here appears to be outstanding...that is assuming that it holds up mechanically. Mechanical failures in the first year or so will lead me to update this post with a poor review. I saw another review here that said something did break in the first month, so I'm on the lookout. If you see me back, you will know. For those who have had issues connecting the Alexa skill, make sure your password you use for the atomi smart app is long enough. Strange but you need to have at least I believe a 9 digit password in the atomi app in order to use the atomi skill in your alexa app. But the atomi app lets you make shorter passwords of around 6 characters I believe...so don't do that. Make your password in the atomi app at least 9 characters long I believe. I think they should probably fix this disconnect between the atomi app and alexa atomi skill because it will confuse smart house noobs. Also when you first start your atomi app, it will probably go to a loading screen and not work. It will look like it is loading something indefinitely. It did this on my S20 FE phone. The way to fix this is to just close out of the atomi app after you initially start it up. Then reopen it. Then the loading icon will have disappeared and you will get a button in the center of the app which will allow you to add your device to the atomi app. It's pretty simple from there. Just connect to the atomi wifi, they specify after you tell them the 2.4 Ghz wifi only (no don't use the combo networks, has to be 2.4 only I believe) network you want your smart heaters to be connected to. I recommend getting a network set up specifically for 2.4 GHz for all of your smart house operations by the way. Most of the smart devices I own (50 or so) require a 2.4 GHz specific network. Finally, yes, it will keep your room warm. It is comparable to Lasko heaters in that regard, which I have run for some time. You know...the green ugly ones which kick but but are stupid and their thermostat doesn't work. This one seems to have at least a decent thermostat. You won't be sad you bought it. ... show more

  • NOTICE the 60F minimum!!!
I live in a cold area. In winter even with heating on I cannot bring the house to above around 55f at night. It's fine I have good blankets. I bought it to largely to leave at home when I travel. tempatures going under 30F even for just an hour can freeze indoor pipes and damage some equipment. I was planning on having it set to keep tempatures above 40, but the minimum is 60. WHY?!? This means the darn thing might as well be always on. Still kind of cool it tells me the tempature on my phone but what's the point ... show more

  • works well for being so small
I use two of these for my man cave. It's a pretty big cave 24X28 w/10ft ceiling (converted 2.5 car garage). It is fairly well insulted and does have it's own HVAC with propane furnace. I only use the room a couple nights a week, but found the propane to be expensive even when it turned the heat down to 52 when the room wasn't in use. I generally leave two of these in the room set to 60 (the minimum setting), with the propane set to 52 as a backup over the entire winter season. I'm in Delaware, so it's not super cold, but there are times where it is below 20F for several consecutive days, and the little heaters keep up, and the propane isn't needed to maintain the room. When I want to use the room I crank up the setting from my phone an hour before and it heats up well enough for me. When I'm in there, I'll set the propane to come on and give these a break. Over 4 months of use, I only use half tank of propane for the whole season(about $200/tank) compared to using about a tank per month. It raises my electric bill by about $50/month, but it's way cheaper, and I don't have to worry about running out of propane, and can control it from my phone. ... show more
