This service tool stands out against the others I have used of this same style from other brands. It is most noticeable in the C-clamp portion. Just based on the weight when you pick it up, there is clearly more mass here. I have never broken one of these tools (which I have mostly used rentals prior), but it seems to mar less especially on the thrust / forcing bolt. The bolt needs lubrication prior to use for lubrication purposes and a light coat of oil after use to prevent rust should that matter to you. My choice of lubrication is white lithium grease on the bolt then sprayed with a light oil like 3-in-1, air tool oil, marvel mystery oil, etc. The reason for this is the grease seems to provide a base for the oil. You get a nice smooth action and when put back into the case, the grease sort of dries a bit into the threads. Now when you use it again, a spray of oil as before brings it all back to life. I like this because it provides a great storage lubrication without dripping oil all over in the case and when it is next used, just a little oil leaves it nicely lubricated and ready to go. If I needed to find a complaint on this I would have to point out the blow molded case. The only issue is because this tool is so heavy, the case gives very easily to the tool. Should you drop this with the tool inside, I would not expect the case to make it out in one solid piece. under normal use, mine has malformed a bit in some places on the inside and has one indentation on the outside, none of which have any effect on storage or tool usage. When using the tool, you should be aware that it is heavy which can cause it to be difficult to use on or off of the vehicle. It is also important to select the right adapters for both removal and install of your ball joint. I would suggest reading all manufacturer documentation before use and checking out YouTube for an instructional video if you are unsure of anything for some clarification and usage examples. With proper use, this is an amazing tool that will save you a lot of time. ... show more

Works well to press-in an upper ball joint for a 2000 Toyota Tundra, but a little tricky to press it out. For pressing out, I set up a receiving cup under the ball joint with the C-Clamp press bolt lined up with the spindle, and the open end of the C-clamp on the receiving cup. I used my impact wrench to press it out. On one of the ball joints, it blew the spindle all the way through so I just used the flat adapter to finish it out. The other ball joint held up and was pressed out in one piece. To press it in, I used the flat adapter underneath with the recieving cup on top. The impact wrench finished it out. Be sure to have it all lined up evenly to avoid hangups. I used a 3 lbs. dead blow hammer to start it off just to make sure the ball joint was going in straight. I had the steering knuckle off because I was also replacing the lower ball joints, outer tie rods, and stabilizer links. It made the job easier. Also, having an impact wrench made a big difference, but I imagine having a quality socket wrench can do the trick but would take longer and possibly be more frustrating. Even with the impact wrench, it took some time to press the ball joint in completely. I even thought one was going in crooked because it was taking longer than the other one to press-in. we just finished replacing lower ball joints on a four wheel drive Dodge Dakoda. this tool worked great! and it also worked great installing the new ball joints. we did not try using and impact wrench but we did use a 24" breaker bar on it

    • This tool takes all the "Fun" out of replacing U-Joints.
Prior to buying this tool I would either beat a u-joint out with a hammer and a couple of sockets or I would abuse a bench vise and try to position the driveshaft and two sockets while trying to close the vise. This usually resulted in my dropping one or more sockets or I would whack my thumb with the hammer. The end result would be breaking into a chant about the parentage of whomever designed the U-Joints. And I'd also throw in a long series of 4 letter words and gashing of teeth to balance things out. Unfortunately, with this tool, I never get the opportunity to break into a chant. I clamp the driveshaft into the vice, position the ball joint press hook up my impact wrench and in less than 5 minutes I have the u-joint out. I also find I have much more control when I'm pressing the caps in as well. It is a well made tool and well worth the price. What would take a couple of hours now takes a few minutes. And while I sometimes still smash my thumb, it's not while installing u-joints anymore. ... show more

    • Yes, there is play in the drive screw.
Haven't started on my Wrangler as yet. Only played with with this tool a few minutes. This is the only one I found that is OK to use with impact guns. Given that, I was a little disappointed to find some play in the drive screw, but hopefully it will hold up. Reviews say it will and I found a tube video of someone using an impact over and over with it. Hopefully his had the same play. ... show more
