  • This is a gem of a cable modem!
Style: 3.1 Modem
This is a gem of a cable modem! I replaced a 5 year old DOCSIS 3.0 modem (different manufacturer) with this one and the difference in the 3.1 speed is amazing! It was easy to install and connect to my ISP using their self-install instructions. It runs just a little warm to the touch, just as you would expect for a device of this size and power usage. I have the output wired via an ethernet cable on the other side of my house, to a wireless router from a different manufacturer. They work flawlessly together, very compatible. The unit is a little larger than my old modem, but by no means would I call it large. I bought a renewed unit and it was delivered in pristine condition. No issues at all. It does not have the usual row of about 5 LEDs indicating the various stages of connectivity. So if you need those, you might be disappointed. I have not missed them at all. There LED in the front of the base light up in different colors to indicate various things, so consult the manual. There is an LED on the ethernet cable connector that shows activity too. ... show more

  • Insane performance compared to my old router/modem combo!
Style: 3.1 Modem
Had all kind of issues with the internet disconnecting and generally being slow at our house and finally I did some research to discover that it was time to upgrade to a separate modem and router as the combos will just never perform as well. This thing is blazing fast! Our wifi went from 7mbps to 900mpbs! It works great with the Netgear Nighthawk 9300 router, more than enough for our household. This thing is seriously tiny I was so surprised at the size of the box that showed up. Instant compatibility just plug in and go, so easy to use. Internet is super stable now. It does run hot since its pumping out so many bits but easy fix with a little fan placed under it and it never has a hiccup. ... show more

  • Wrong power supply and DOA
Style: 3.1 Modem
1st issue is it came with the wrong power supply. The arris uses a different type of 12v plug and the power supply it came with did not fit into the back of the arris and it would not even power on. 2nd issue is after trying with my original power supply the unit then turned on, but to a solid white light that would never change. It would not connect and I could not activate. I tried connecting my laptop directly too it but I could not get a network connection to try and log into the arris interface. Googling the Arris S33 I find that this is a very unreliable modem. 25+ years never had a cable modem go bad until I purchased Arris. ... show more

  • Solid upgrade with noticeable performance boost
Style: 3.1 Modem
The ARRIS SURFboard S33 (Renewed) turned out to be a great upgrade. Setup was simple once I got in touch with Xfinity to disconnect my old modem and register this one. After that, it connected quickly and started delivering much better speeds. I used to deal with dropped connections almost daily, but this modem has been rock solid. Streaming, video calls, and downloads all feel smoother now. The compact design fits easily into my setup and it runs quietly. Even though it’s a renewed unit, it looks and performs like new. If you’re switching from an older DOCSIS 3.0 modem, this is a noticeable step up. Just be ready to spend a few minutes with your ISP to get it activated. ~ TechTrek Globetrotter Exploring the world, one gadget at a time. ... show more

  • Modem works great. Need better installation instructions.
Style: 3.1 Modem
The cable modem is compact and not that complicated to install once you know what to do! I am getting the download/upload speeds I expect from my service selection from Xfinity. This is a refurbished unit, but it looks brand new and is working fine. I have had good experiences with other refurbished electronic items so decided to save some money and purchase this one. The installation instructions need to be improved though. First, don't waste your time with their mobile phone app. Connect the coax cable, connect your router to the TOP ethernet port (which they call the "First" port), then ask your service provider to activate the modem. I did that through the Xfinity app on my phone so no phone call needed. It took maybe 10 minutes or so for me to be back online. After the modem is activated you probably need to reboot your router to make sure it is talking to the modem. I did end up calling Arris Tech Support because I could not log into the modem. I wanted to see what information was available. Turns out the log in instructions on the Quick Start card were wrong. It said the password was "password" but it the Tech Support agent told me to use the last 8 digits of serial number as the password, and that worked. The Tech Support experience was good. I got connected to an agent right away and he gave me good information. I did use the SURFboard Central mobile app to register my modem, and that worked easily. ... show more

  • Arris quality and connectivity is spot on.
Style: 3.1 Modem
Like other Arris equipment I have owned this cable modem works great and connected to my Xfinity internet with ease. Be aware that this is simply a modem and does not have router capabilities so you will need an external router for wifi.

  • Connect it securely.
Style: 3.1 Modem
Ensure that the electrical cord is connected securely to rear of the unit or it won't operate. I connected the ethernet cable from my internet company's wireless router to the 1 gigabyte port since that's my current internet plan. After contacting my internet provider for the installation. The unit works great. The unit has several light combinations so my unit turned blue to match the color of the wireless router. ... show more
