  • Seems to be well designed and built
I have an 800 foot driveway in the North Cascades Mountains and can't always rely on commercial snow plowing/blowing. Assembly of my machine was straightforward. A socket wrench and 3/8, 1/2 and 9/16 sockets is needed. The bits that need to be sturdily built are rugged. I used the electric start and it fired up immediately, even though I forgot to prime it. Temps in the low 30s (f) and it idled smoothly once I quickly got off the choke. The machine has the torque to power up light grades while throwing heavy slush (25-30 feet). I only have an hour and a half of use, but this machine looks like it will last. I'm glad that I spent the extra money for the 30 inch model ... show more

  • A good., strong machine except for the auto-turn.
update: After using this snowblower for a winter I am not a fan of the auto-turn. I have a gravel driveway which collects rough ice under the snow. The auto-turn keeps pulling in one direction or the other. Puts a lot of pressure on my wrists and lower arms. I wish I could turn this feature off. Seems gimmicky with not much usefulness. I bought the Deluxe 30 921047. Snowblower starts good & everything works. Throws snow further than any of the old snow blowers I've used over the years. Very pleased. Takes 3-5 pulls to start in cold weather. I like the "power" steering. When you turn, the inside wheel goes slower than the outside wheel. However it sometimes pulls against me when I get the wheels into a soft edge of the driveway. Traction is good enough I may not have to buy tire chains. Assembly was a pain but not terrible. Headlight went out 1st use but I just had to push the electrical fitting back into the socket. Good powerful machine that does what it's supposed to do. I'd buy it again. ... show more

  • Set it up right
This is one of those machines that operates great IF you take the time to set it up properly. This is especially true of the auto-turn feature. Once I got it set up, it tracks perfectly down my 300' driveway. I'm in Maine and get all kinds of snow. My driveway is 10' wide for the 1st 240' and 30' wide for the last 60'. I have no trouble blowing snow across 30' even with pretty wet snow. However it does get tricky in light powder with heavy wind. It goes through everything, even the snowbank at the road. With my old Troy Bilt Storm 2410, which I liked, it took me about 3 hours average per storm. This Ariens has cut that time down to about an hour. I like that the chute turns left when I turn the crank counter clockwise. But, I do wish the crank wasn't outside of (in front of) the dashboard. It makes it awkward to use with a cab. ... show more

  • If you slip and fall going up a grade this thing will roll back on to you
Some nice features, but one fatal flaw: when the drive safety interlock is released (as when the operator slips and falls, or just wants to stop) the snowblower freewheels. If you are going downhill, it just keeps on going - maybe out of your driveway and into traffic, maybe into the neighbor's kid. And, going downhill without falling, there is no way to stop this thing: it's either going under power or it's freewheeling - all 200+ pounds of it! But if you are going uphill, 200+ pounds of snow blower rolls back on to *you* - and that's gonna hurt. I am incredulous that such a thing ever made it to market. A lawyer's feeding frenzy waiting to happen. ... show more
