I bought these and made my own filtration system with things I already had in the house so all I had to buy were the filters. That worked out well because I live on a small fixed income. It was very easy to do and these filters do their job beautifully. They do pass the red food coloring test and my water tastes so very much better. It does not take an eternity for the water to filter through either. My old 18 year old cat was throwing up several times a day and my water felt like it was actually burning the back of my throat . Since I have been using these filters my cat has stopped throwing up and I actually enjoy drinking water again. When I can afford it I really want the ceramic attachments for arsenic, fluoride, and so forth......... It has been around a month since my review and I have a question. It has also been about a month since I tore this system apart and cleaned it. The water in the top never drains all the way. However, I only add water as I use it so it never gets a chance to just set in there except for the bit at the top. I went to add a little water to the system before bed and was hit with the smell of mildew. When I reached inside the top container the walls of the bucket are slimy. The water coming out does not have an odor but slimy water on top means bacteria and as far as I know mildewed filters is not a good thing is it ??? Please help if you know anything about this because I can not seem to find anyone from AquaCrest to ask.

A new version of these filters has been released to fix the loose base issue and improve the taste. The customer service for this product is above and beyond! Always contact the seller before writing a bad review. I was refunded and sent new filters to check out. Can't do better than that. I went from 1 star to 4. Great company. Haven't tested new filters yet. So only 4 stars. These are crap. Do not buy. I went to remove them to clean and they both just fell out leaving their plastic bases screwed into the base of the Berkey. I added a star because the sellers contacted me after reading my review and gave me a full refund. Great customer service.

Style: Fluoride Filter
On the Berkey filter the directions say same as this filter, to only turn 7 or so times so that the inner seal is not punctured. But if you take a q-tip and gently put it in the UP end, the Berkey's filter seal & content are at the top and the q-tip only goes in a short distance. This filter's turned the opposite direction and the q-tip goes in the botton the same distance as the top of the Berkey filter. If putting a q-tip in the UP end of this filter it goes a much longer distance into the canister... similar to the bottom opening of the Berkey. I don't know that it really makes any difference in it's filtering capabilities but you don't need to be so concerned about not tightening the the filter into place with only the exact turns.

I have used the Brekey Gravity Water Filter system for over 15 years, always used their products, the black filter and the White Fluoride Filter. This set from Aquacrest do not work. The water runs straight through both filters in a matter of a few mins. It was shocking! Not only that I notice when priming the white filters they ran horrible black water out of them each time I ran water through them to prime them. Berkey White do not do this, they run a white milky looking water~! Not only the black water came out but when you shook these white filters sounded like they were full of nothing but loose particles like tiny rocks. Most be filled with tiny bits of charcoal. They just do not filter the water. The water had a horrible metallic taste to it after filtering the system about 20 times which is about 40 gallons of water, the water always tasted metallic.

We've had our Berkey for 8 years but stopped using it about 3 years ago because the filter costs were so high and that they were not NSF rated. I was pleasantly surprised to find Aqua Crest to have NSF certified replacements at a lower price. I set the Berkey back up and have been using it for a few weeks and its works great. Tastes good and even tested the water (just with those strip kits, not a professional service) and the results were great. I was using the aqua crest filers for my PUR filter and now use this. Update 4 months later - filter is still going. Great doesn’t come up part like other reviewers have mentioned, working perfectly. But I also discover is that the black cartridges don’t require as much cleaning as the original Berkey filters do. My original Berkey filters will get clogged up pretty fast within a couple weeks. Why I’d have to take them out and scrub them very often.
