  • A picture says a thousand words... A picture says a thousand words...
Pattern Name: Fertilizer Size: 16oz
I was using another product that was twice the price and it ran out and I switched to my Leaf Zone as a backup at the time. I am noticing just as good or even better growth using Leaf Zone for several months now for half the price. I have mainly S. Repens and Dwarf Sag. Different plants, different needs, different outcomes. I inject CO2 so don't let the pictures fool you, but I had cut way back on dosing some time back, and my plants almost died. I did it to see just how important ferts were and it almost cost me my whole setup. I dose every time I can closer to when my light turns on for maximum uptake. Sometimes I dose several days in row, sometimes I go 3 to 4 days without it. I noticed my algae levels go down as well btw, maybe because it's not as strong. For the price, it is hard to beat as long as it fits your needs. ... show more

  • Plants, Fish, and Worms... Oh My! Plants, Fish, and Worms... Oh My!
Pattern Name: Fertilizer Size: 16oz
I am impressed so far! Before and after pictures attached: same plants in/on the substrate but with a new layout and light. I also added some beautiful floating plants! FISH DON'T MIND, BUT WORMS DIED: I have dosed twice in the last 10 days. Both times right after a water change, administering only a half dose (I saw others mentioning their fish reacting badly and wanted to air on the side of caution). My fish don't seem to mind it, however it may have killed my black worms, not sure if it was the Leafzone but they all seem pretty dead for no other apparent reason. It's ok though, they're cheap and I have more. I keep 1 dwarf puffer, 1 serape tetra, many snails of all sizes, and a small black worm colony in my 5 gallon. Update: A full size dose has no adverse effects on my fish! Plants are doing AMAZING! Also seems my worms may have been shocked at first by the Leafzone and I lost several but I have not noticed new losses over time with continual use. I thing they just had to get used to it. PLANTS SEEM TO LIKE IT: The plants seem to be doing well. The bright green one in the middle of the picture, wisteria I think, had not been doing well, browning a lot on the edges of old leaves, so I got Leafzone. I started using it immediately and the wisteria shot out new growth that matched the height of the rest of the plant after a just a week and the browning on the old growth has slowed drastically and even stopped completely in some leaves! A runner broke off of my tall skinny plant (name? Lol); I replanted it and it got longer. I'll let you know if it sprouts. Most of the cobomba in my tank had previously died out, but I still have two small sprouts. One seems to be doing ok the other had some yellowing that appears to be rebounding with the Leafzone being used. I will report back on how it does on my cobomba sprouts. I AM LOW TECH: My aquarium is low light (standard light, nothing fancy), basic black gravel, wonder shells for an extra mineral boost, semi-hard water at 8.0ph, and no CO2 at appox 80 degrees. So this review is for API Leafzone for plants in a very low tech aquarium. I will keep you posted on my progress. Update: I got a new light($20) and some root tabs($7) to use alongside my Leafzone, my pants are so happy! New growth everywhere! ... show more

  • !!Warning!! for all hobbyist... Do not overdose use it according to the direction provided.
Pattern Name: Fertilizer Size: 16oz
!!Warning!!! Product is awesome work fine for me until I overdose it. Well I bought it for my heavily planted aquarium with more than 15 plants species. it works well even better than I was expecting. all of my plants were flourishing and I was so happy and the nightmare begins with pest snail. and they were growing day by day I tried everything moved my fish from the aquarium to my other aquariums. After all my research I concluded that I need to use some chemical like copper sulfate or something. I was afraid to do anything because my aquarium plants are healthy and growing awesome BTW I was using Leaf zone once a week after every water change of 25% and I was providing enough CO2 as well. Before treating my aquarium with any chemical I just added double dose of leaf zone just for safe side so plants will not effect(I dont know why). very next morning I saw all snails were not moving and are all on my gravel(Black gravel so was hard to see the small) Initially I was very happy that it is killing snails so I have to deal only some of the snails. and with 2 days I realize that all snails are already dead and all my plants are glowing but hornwort start losing its leaf and then slowly slowly all of my plants are dying. I did water changed but couldn't able to save some of the plants I lost almost 50% of my plants. I am still using it my plants are start growing again hopefully will recover in 2/3 months. some species are 100% gone will buy them again. I am still happy that I dont have any snail in my aquarium so whoever wants to get rid of snails can use it with caution. ... show more

  • I would recommend using a separate Iron and Potassium fertilizer instead of this combined one, or better yet use dry ferts
Pattern Name: Fertilizer Size: 16oz
Let me start by saying I am no expert on aquarium plants and am learning more every day. This product seems fine if you really do want one product that has both Iron and Potassium in it and want the convenience of a premixed liquid. But, with macro fertilizers similar to this one, many people also like to use a trace mineral combo like Seachem Flourish or use a dry trace combo like plantex when using the PPS Pro fertilizer system. This product could cause a problem if using a trace mineral fertilizer with this product. When I first got my plants I was using this product as well as some other liquid fertilizers. I realized my trace fertilizers also had iron in them so I was getting my iron levels way too high. So, I had to find a different potassium fertilizer without iron in it and quit using the rest of this bottle. For better control I'd suggest using separate fertilizers (for everything but your trace fertilizer) not a combo fertilizer like this. I was at first intimidated and tried liquid fertilizers like this, but many experienced aquarium keepers warned it would become expensive and to use dry fertilizers instead. After doing research I have finally taken the plunge to all dry fertilizers, I save a ton of money and have way more control over my PPS Pro mixture. It only takes me about 10 minutes to weigh, and mix my macro and trace bottles with distilled water, then they last about 3 months before its time to mix the bottles again. I spent about $50 total for all my macro and trace dry fertilizers plus $10 for a digital 100 gram scale in .01 increments. According to my math the dry fertilizers I purchased will last me three years for my size tanks. If I had continued using pre-manufactured liquid macro and trace fertilizers like this and the other necessary ones, I would have spent $400-600 over the three years. So, that's a pretty large savings. But, more so than the savings I like the control of the dry fertilizers. But, this product may be fine for beginners, just make sure none of your other trace fertilizers have iron in them as well and make sure to buy the other required macro liquid fertilizers as well(this one does not contain all Macro fertilizers). Or test to see if you need the others. After testing my water, I have high enough nitrates from fish waste that I don't add nitrogen to my fertilizer mix, but I do need Phosphorous as phosphates don't even register on my test for my tanks. PS. If you do decide to try dry fertilizers some day there are several reputable companies that sell these fertilizers. I did quite a bit of research myself but still had a lingering question. The company I used had great support, and responded to my emailed questions throughout the weekend, the guy knew his aquarium information so I ordered the following Monday. I have been very happy, but you do need to do some initial research. Unfortunately at the time of this posting amazon doesn't seem to sell these dry fertilizers, so you will have to use another company like I did. ... show more
