  • PLEASE BE AWARE OF A CONFLICT IN DOSING INSTRUCTIONS!
Size: 16-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I wanted to post this quick comment before I post my review on this product because I think there's a critical error in the instructions on this pags vs the instructions on the actual bottle. This may explain why some people have lost their fish! The way I see it, this page and the bottle state 2 VERY DIFFERENT things as far as dosing! In the description on this page it states......"To treat algae, add 1 ml per 10 gallons of water and REPEAT FOR 3 DAYS until algae is controlled." On the actual bottle it states...."Repeat dose EVERY 3 DAYS until algae is controlled." So if you read this page only and not the actual bottle (or you read both but follow the instructions on this page) you would add AlgaeFix to your aquarium each day for 3 days straight when you are actually supposed to add it every 3rd day. Add it, wait 3 days, add it again! THIS IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE and may explain why some people have lost their fish! I will post my entire review of this product and photos of my aquarium shortly...... ... show more

  • It works. If you don't want dead fish you should read this.
Size: 8-Ounce Style: Freshwater
So I waited a long time to write this. After reading all the reviews of dead fish I had to. So far, no dead fish. I currently only have algae eaters ottos that couldn't keep up. So here is how they have stayed alive and what my advice is. Don't just pour it in your tank. If you do you're dumb and you get what is coming. Also if you have fish that will think it is food don't just avoid pouring it in at all. Let me explain my process. READ THE DIRECTIONS ON THE BOTTLE NOT ON HERE. Then to test under dose. So if it effects your fish they have a chance to recover. My first time I used 1/4 dose. 3 days later I increased it to 1/2 by adding another 1/4 and so on to 3/4 dose. I have not done a full dose but it still works. I have 1 gallon water bottles, I pour 1ml into a 1 gal with 1ml of stress coat, I add sink water and let it site 10 minutes. I pour that in during normal water changes, pour in one of just water and stress coat, then another with the algae fix. Diluting it this way works. My fish do not approach it so this seems to be safe. If I want to bump the dose later but not mess with the water I open the lid to my filter and pour it in there so it is not instantly introduced to the fish it instead is mixed with water. It also prevents them from approaching a concentrated dose. People are getting dead fish because they are dropping a full dose right in their face. Also they don't math at all. Yes I have a 40 gallon tank. Do I dose for 40 gallons? No! I have a good portion of it taken up by gravel, sand, plants, and rocks. I do not have 40 gallons of water I have 30. Dosing 40 gallons is overdose... if you are doing this guess what you're gonna get. So as you can see this is a product that requires thought and consideration but if you can manage to think a little you'll be fine. Don't brainlessly pour anything into your tank ever. ... show more

  • Read this if you want to kill Algea and not your Fish.
Size: 16-Ounce Style: Freshwater
Kills algea. Kills your fish if used wrong. I found using at 1/4th dosage diluting the dose in at least 1 gallon of water before adding to tank is best. This was successful. I forgot to dilute the same dose of Algaefix after one water change and all the little fish who came to see and thought I had a treat or something good I was pouring in, they all got zapped (killed). This stuff killed them with in a few mins some, and some up to 10 hours later. Anything over 1/3rd , or 1/4th the dosage I had bad results. Ignore the bottle instructions if you want your fish to live, of course they want you to pour more in. Always mix it with at least half a gallon aquarium water to dilute it on smaller tanks like 10 or 20 gallon. On bigger tanks I always dilute with about a gallon of water. Treatment: After a water change I Treat at 1/4th the dose, then wait 3 days. You can barely notice the algea starting to die (hard to notice), treat again at 1/4th the dose and by 3 more days you should see a noticeable difference. I treat another 3rd time at most before I do another water change. Also this keeps all your beneficial bacteria from dieing at once which causes huge ammonia spike and can kill your fish much sooner. I am experienced fish hobbyist and have 9 aquariums right now. This is how I keep down the Algea and keep the fish alive. This is poison if used wrong. Be careful because if you use too much just once, you might be really sad to see that the instructions can be deadly to many species of fish. ... show more

  • API Algaefix and API Marine Algaefix are two different products.
Size: 16-Ounce Style: Freshwater
I panic bought the API Marine Algaefix when hair algae that came in on some java moss completely bombed my freshwater tank. The product killed the hair algae no problem. However, when I tried to use the Marine specific product to treat the green water in another of my tanks, it did absolutely nothing. Went back and did a little research and the marine variety has no effect on green water algae in a freshwater tank. Bought this product, which is not the marine variety, and it cleared up my green water, which I've been fighting for months for some reason (kept tanks for years and have never had this problem) in two doses. Otherwise, please read the reviews for this product before use. I have kept tanks personally and worked for several LFS over the years and though they may not want to hear it, I can guarantee that anyone leaving a comment that all their fish died did not use this product correctly. I believe it is worth restating that a fully stock and scaped 10 gallon tank DOES NOT contain 10 gallons of water. It is much better to use too little and slowly dial the dose up (seriously, no more than two extra drops at a time) than to dump too much in willy nilly and devastate your tank. ... show more

  • Works! Use as instructions say. Cap can trick you.
Size: 16-Ounce Style: Freshwater
This worked well. Tank is clear as a bell. Have 55 gal Tank of cichlids for 20 years. Read reviews of it killing fish. When I first open bottle looking at the cap for measurements in the bottom of cap is has 1ml markings. This maybe why people are killing their fish in other reviews. The 5ml and 10ml mark is on the side. If you fill this cap and dose it thinking it’s 1ml then you are giving 10 times the dose. ... show more
