  • APC Surge Protector with USB Ports, P11U2MP10, 2880 Joule
Style: Power Strip
apc surge protector uses Shunt mode . Transient spikes are shunted to ground wire at the wall outlet , thus it is very important to have a good ground and the Red light on apc P11u2mp10 needs to be OFF . a bad ground wire will reduce surge protection . surge protector has amber wattage overload light and Red ground fault light. if the Red ground fault light should be lit, you have high voltage on Ground . ( the ground wire most likely does not have the same connection to earth ground Rod, that the return neutral wire has ) ground wire ( green or bare ) and the neutral white wire both must connect to earth ground Rod, at a single point, in the breaker box, via the Green Bonding Screw . by NEC , code, the ground bus bar connects to the metal breaker box, while the neutral bus bar is isolated insulated from the metal breaker box and does not touch the metal breaker box . next, Green Bonding Screw bolts through the neutral bus bar and ties connects the neutral bus bar to the metal breaker box at a single point . in the breaker box, neutral bus bar to ground bus bar will be 0 volts ac, measured. neutral bus bar to earth ground Rod will be 0 volts ac, measured. ground bus bar to earth ground Rod will be 0 volts ac, measured. ( most likely earth ground Rod wire is Set screwed into the neutral bus bar ) measurments at an indoor ac outlet could be slightly different for very long wire runs, or a loose screw at the outlet recepticle. The apc Red light was lit because ground and neutral wires were not tied together in the breaker box. or something in between the outlet and breaker is an issue, must trouble shoot. a DVM digital volt meter can confirm by measuring AC voltage from Return ( neutral ) left side long slit to Gnd ( ground ) lower round hole at the outlet receptical. normally , very near 0 volts ac . 2 volts ac is bad, and the apc surge protector will turn on it's Red light . when measuring ac voltage at an outlet have meter in ac volt mode with 200 volt range. Red light came on for me . my ground voltage had increased to 6 volts ac . hot to neutral measured 124 while hot to ground was reading about 119 volts ac. they should have both been the same at 124 . neutral to ground was about 6 volts ac , causing the difference and confiming the ground had voltage,... voltage on ground . the Green Bonding Screw in breaker box was never screwed in far enough. i put a socket wrench to the Green hex head and tightened a couple of thread pitches deeper. ground voltage dropped to 0 volts ac in the breaker box . apc surge protector was correct. Red light is now off . here, apc be1050g3 ups is plugged into the apc surge protector and the surge protector is directly plugged into ac outlet. whie the ups outlets are directly plugged into TV etc,... ... show more

  • Very satisfied - no regrets
Style: Power Strip
No complaints. I’ve used this brand for many years and they held up over the years. I especially like the USB ports, something my old surge protector/power strip didn’t have.

  • The price is right
Style: Power Strip
I needed to protect some lower level electronics and didn't want to spend $100 or so for the TrippLite Isobar 4 Ultra that I get for more expensive stuff, so I got this APC one instead. There is no way for me to tell anyone if it works against surges, but I trust APC, APC makes my UPS system that I've had for about 8 years and the battery is still good. I bought the APC knowing what they say it will do, will do it. The outlay of the sockets is almost perfect, some adapters are quite large and will take up 2 socket spaces, and may intrude a bit on the side as well, so make sure you compensate for that. It came with USB sockets, which is nice. It also had a 2880 J rating which was the highest I could find on Amazon for that price. They do have a $250,000 equipment guarantee, but please do not buy any surge protector just because it has a warranty, these types of warranties are rarely paid out on, and some have stipulations like the warranty is only good for X number of years, and is void if you plug a second surge protector into it, or use an extension cord, you must keep the original box, and have the original receipt; make sure you read that stuff closely. Even if you fulfilled the warranty wording to the fullest, I bet getting a claim paid would be like pulling your teeth out without any pain meds! So buy a surge protector based on the brand reputation, APC is one of the oldest and highest recommended one on the market. ... show more

A great and robust surge strip. This strip includes a nice long cord and has 11 usable outlets that supports up to 6 power bricks plus 6 cords. We have purchased many of these.

  • Good surge protector at a decent price
Style: Power Strip
I was on the hunt for a surge protector for my receiver and other video equipment. Really wanted a Panamax unit, just for the reliability and the design aspect but they were out of my budget. So I knew i still needed reliable but cheaper. Eventually decided on this APC unit after some research. The unit is well designed, has a right angle cord built into the unit, then the wall plug has a slight angle flat plug on it. I'm only deducting a star because some of the sliders to close off the ports are very loose. Other than that it seems well built and I'd recommend if you need one. ... show more
