Although the look and feel of natural wicker may seem appealing, it is made to be enjoyed indoors and out of direct sunlight because of it’s susceptible to rain, sleet, snow, moisture, and other forms of inclement weather. Some companies do offer moisture and weather resistant coating to make natural wicker furniture more patio friendly. Synthetic Wickers (or Resin Wickers) Synthetic wicker is the most widely used type of wicker for patio furniture because of it’s durability against the elements. It’s made from resins that are extracted from plant material and harden permanently. There are many types of resin wickers: from PVC, nylon, polyethylene (PE) and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Wicker. We recommend the HDPE because it’s made from a compound that is very dense so it’s extremely durable in all outdoor conditions. Other wicker materials like PVC may peel off and reveal a mismatched color after years of use. HDPE on the other hand is made with the same colored material throughout so there is no peeling or color mismatch. What is Resin wicker? Resin wicker is a man made synthetic wicker. If you’ve ever wondered if resin wicker and synthetic wicker are the same thing, the answer is yes! These terms are used interchangeably, But there are lots of different qualities being made & used for furniture. HDPE, or high density polyethylene, is the best quality material for synthetic wicker. When you see this material being used it is a sign that these are better quality resin wicker products. Also if HDPE is being used it is a reasonable assumption that the other materials and fabrics being used are also good quality. HDPE Resin wicker is nonporous and dyed all of the way through. It is loaded with ultraviolet light treatment so the color stays true and fresh for years to come. HDPE, which stands for High Density Polyethylene is a much stronger material with a higher level of tensile strength. Especially when woven in a very tight weave, it is incredibly difficulty to do damage to resin wicker furniture made of HDPE. Even better, HDPE is lighter and more resistant to sunlight. Wicker is a weaving process, not a material. So wicker can be anything that is woven and can be made a natural or synthetic material. Heavy gauge aluminum frames - Be sure to look out for aluminum (not steel) frames so that your furniture is resistant to rusting. It’s also a good idea to choose furniture that features heavy gauge aluminum frames so that the pieces are sturdy. Furniture frames that are raised off the ground - Your furniture will be outside, meaning there can mud, dirt, dust, or sand. It’s smart to find furniture that is raised a couple inches off the ground so that the frame is not sitting in the dirt. Little to no assembly - Not only is low or no assembly a factor convenience, it also has to do with longevity. When your furniture’s frame has been welded in the factory, that means it’s much stronger. If you have to piece it together at home, it could come apart just as easily. Choose items that are crafted and shipped whole. Made of HDPE - For resin wicker that is strong and durable, and not prone to cracking, fading, or peeling, you absolutely must choose HDPE, and don’t buy anything made of PVC. The Verdict Natural wicker will become dry and brittle over time. It will crack and cause the weave to unravel over time. Natural wicker can be subject to damage caused by insects and small pests. Natural wicker may fade in the sun and get wet during rain, being permeable may cause the fabric to give in, on the seating area. Natural wicker is best used indoors. Synthetic wicker is infused with UV Inhibitors that prevent fading in the sun. Synthetic wicker won’t break, chip, or scratch and it’s stain resistant. Synthetic wicker is easy to wash.     • Cushions retain water but still good set

I got this back in July but wanted to wait before i wrote a review. Got this for the back deck seating area which is sunny in the morning but shaded in the afternoon. For the most part, we like the set. It is comfortable and the price was good. The set arrived in three large separate boxes. The boxes were too big for me to move from the front deck to the back deck so i removed all the pieces from the boxes and made multiple trips. The directions were easy to follow and we set it up in a couple hours. The cushions are secured in place with a plastic piece you shove between the wicker weaving. The pieces are light weight, so very easy to move for arranging how you want it set up. I have three concerns with this patio set: the cushions, the glass table top, and trying to keep the seats together. The cushions retain a lot of water. We've had a few rainy days followed by sunny hot days. But when I tried to sit on the chair, the cushion was still wet near the back area. When I took the cushion off, water started draining out of it. All the cushions were like this so I had to take them off the wicker seats and lay them in the drive way for three days to dry out. I'll probably try to replace them with marine cushion foam so they dry out faster or get a storage box to keep them in. We've also had some severe storms come through (luckily while home in the evening) that produced hail. I had to remove the glass table top and bring inside because i worried the hail might shatter it. The other concern is getting the seats to stay together. They tend to slide around a bit so they don't stay in a straight line. I was told there are brackets I can buy to hook them together. I haven't searched for those yet. None of these are deal breakers and we still enjoy this set. If the wicker doesn't hold up during winter, I will post an update. ... show more

So I’ve had this set for about a month now. The seat pieces all came at the same time, but the fire pit table took an extra week to come. The chairs are pretty easy to put together. I don’t like that you can’t attach the chairs together so they have a tendency to slide around so I’m having to move them so they are straight. They are ok as far as comfort goes. The fire pit table is nice, except the door on the drawer for the propane tank didn’t align properly so we had to maneuver it so it would close. The cushions are definitely NOT waterproof. We had to wring them out bc they absorb so much water and lay in the sun for a day to dry. If you plan on keeping this not under a shelter I definitely recommend a cover. Overall I like the set and I’m happy with it. ... show more

I’ll say they look good and beautiful. Good for the price. Water get stuck in the cushions and take a while to dry. So I try keeping the cushions Indoor while it rains or I’ll buy a cover for them. Still need to check if they can bear all four seasons of mass.
