Great Addition to the Backyard
Great Addition to the Backyard I’m really happy with the Aoxun 10x10 Outdoor Retractable Pergola. The metal frame feels sturdy and well made, and the 10x10 size provides plenty of comfortable shade without taking over the yard. The retractable canopy is a great feature because it makes it easy to adjust the amount of sun throughout the day. I also really like the side adjustable sun shade, which adds extra privacy and protection when needed. Overall, it looks stylish, feels solid, and has made our outdoor space much more enjoyable. Great value for the price and a nice upgrade for anyone looking to create a comfortable backyard sitting area. Highly recommended! ... show more

Great pergola, frustrating instructions - Here are some TIPS
Color: Gray Size: 10' x 10' Set name: Freestanding
This 10x10 pergola is great, sturdy and looks beautiful, but I dropped a star because of the frustrating instructions. If there were some words to describe the steps, that would help immensely. Instead you have to pay attention to the pictures - as one small mistake could lead to a big problem later in the build... and the pictures aren't great. A lot of the build steps are repetitive, so extra help would speed up the process, but could be done by one person. You will need 3-4 people when putting the frame up to hold the sides and middle beam in place. Here are some tips for the instructions of the 10x10 pergola: 1. There are 4 total boxes... remove all parts from all boxes and lay them out in your workspace to make it easier to locate parts. 2. STEP 1: There is a note on page 7 about the pulley rope. It is cryptic, but comes into play in STEP 10. I honestly still don't understand this note/picture on page 7 or why it's important at this step. I wasted a lot of time trying to figure it out - so don't bother here. 3. STEP 2: This part takes a while and is repeated 44 times, but once you get in a flow it only takes about a minute per louvre. This is where more people would help speed up the process. HOWEVER, correct installation here is critical to inserting the louvres in STEP 21. Making sure that G1 and G2 are on the correct sides and installed facing the correct way. I used a handheld screwdriver to loosen/tighten the bottom screw, put on both ends and then a power screwdriver set on low power to fasten the top. Setting screwdriver too high will bend G1 and G2. 4. STEP 3: Be sure to put the bolts in the correct way (there is a sticker on the beams to help with this). DO NOT securely tighten these bolts. Leave them loose enough where the notch is caught in the gap - hand tighten. Tightening too much will cause the bolt to flare the bracket and will cause issues when trying to insert the frames together. 5. STEP 7: When connecting D1-4, make sure the pegs are all facing the same direction. This isn't shown well in the picture. Failure to do so isn't catastrophic but is annoying. 6. STEP 10: This is where overthinking the picture in STEP 1 (page 7) was frustrating. Just make sure the pulley rope comes up the side closest to the D1-4 bars. Take off the rope holder that was inside A3 and A2. I thought it was part of the design... it isn't. It's there to prevent the rope from falling during shipping. Once this is unattached and the rope is heading up the wall, it is much easier to attach to the pulley system. 7. STEP 13: Get 3+ people to help you keep the frame in place when setting the side beams. 8. STEP 15: ^^^ Same as above. MAKE SURE that the beam is in correctly... the grooves should be plastic parts on one side and a notch on the other side for each half (not plastic to plastic or notch to notch). Use a level on both sides of each leg to make sure they are straight before starting the louvres. 9. STEP 20: This is one step where the pictures were actually OK. Pay attention to the direction of each louvre according to the picture, as well as the position of the plastic part on the G1 side. Once you get this, put in about 4-5 louvres and then try out the pulley handle to make sure everything opens and closes properly (the should overlap to prevent rain from getting in). If everything looks good, finish the rest of one side. Do the same process for the other side. Once you get going, setting each louvre takes less than a minute if someone is handing you each piece. Again, the pergola itself is beautiful and works great. The value is great especially with free shipping compared to other pergolas. The louvres turn easily and protect anything underneath from rain and sun. They will need to be left open in the winter if you're in a location that receives snow. ... show more

Instructions suck
Color: Gray Size: 10' x 10' Set name: Freestanding
Instructions could be a lot better. especially on how to install the slates. I installed 12 in. deep x 12 in. round footing and used the anchors that came with the unit. I have been working in the trades for many years and this was not challenging at all until you try to figure out the slats. then it became a head scratcher for a bit. Also the handles did not bolt up. i had to cut 3/16 off of the aluminum hub on the handle for the screw to reach. they need to send longer screws. ... show more

We love it!!! It took my son and grandson about 4 hours to put together and it is beautiful!!! It looks so nice on our deck. It has rained twice and it has stayed dry under the pergola! It is everything it has been advertised to be!!!

Great addition to our backyard
It looks great in the backyard and gives us a nice shaded area to sit outside during the day. I especially like the retractable canopy because it’s easy to adjust depending on how much sun we want. The frame feels sturdy once everything is assembled, and the whole setup makes the patio feel much more finished and comfortable. Assembly takes some time, but the end result is definitely worth it. ... show more

Sleek Look Spoiled by Thin Metal, Defective Hardware, and Costly Returns
Color: Gray Size: 10' x 10' Set name: Freestanding
I purchased two of these pergolas for an outdoor patio setup. After spending the time and effort to assemble the first one, I decided to return the second unit unopened. While the modern styling looks clean once finished, significant issues with structural rigidity, low headroom, defective fasteners, and return shipping terms make it difficult to recommend. Pros * Visual Appeal: The finished structure looks modern, clean, and attractive on the patio. * Straightforward Build Logic: The assembly instructions and overall layout are relatively easy to understand, though the process is labor-intensive and requires multiple people. Cons * Thin Metal & Structural Sway: The aluminum wall gauge is very thin, measuring only 1.07 mm (0.048 inches) with calipers. Even after securing the base plates into a solid concrete slab with anchor bolts, the posts and perimeter beams have noticeable wobble and flex under light hand pressure. * Low Headroom Clearance: The height under the crossbeams is on the short side. A laser measurement from the patio to the bottom edge of the beam showed 6.74 ft (about 80.9 inches), which feels cramped overhead, especially for taller guests. * Defective Hardware & Missing Specs: Fastener quality control is unacceptable; the threaded bolt had an undersized thread diameter that slipped right through the anchor sleeve without catching threads, making it completely useless. Another stud arrived completely unthreaded and smooth. Furthermore, customer support could not provide manufacturer torque specifications, leaving you to guess fastener tightness into thin metal where stripping is an easy risk. * Return Shipping on Your Own Dime: Deciding to return the second unit revealed that return shipping is not covered by the seller. Because the pergola ships in multiple oversized, heavy boxes, paying freight return fees out of pocket is extremely expensive. While the pergola has curb appeal from a distance, the frame flex, cramped clearance, defective hardware, absent torque specs, and expensive return logistics make this purchase hard to justify. ... show more
