  • Disappointing - should still be in beta - Updated review
Update 6/23: Note, the increase to four stars is not a reflection of the projectors performance. It was time that we parted ways. Anker and I could not resolve the issues that I experienced. Sound cut outs were frequent and annoying. The picture quality improved steadily with updates and I generally liked the experience. With that being said, I find sound issues on a premium product unacceptable. I spent dozens of hours troubleshooting the platform and my frustrations were met with some great customer service. I was given a full refund for sending the unit back (9 months later). More importantly, I was not asked to change my review. As someone who made it into the top 10 of all reviewers I can tell you that the hoops that company's go through to twist their ranking is appalling (it's why I stopped writing these reviews). The fact that Anker didn't do this earns a star in my book. The product wasn't for me but a fair resolution is equally as valuable. I will give them a try on the next iteration. Update 2/11: I want to like this unit, but the lack of Netflix support paired with my consistent bluetooth connection issues leaves a bad taste in my mouth. In purchasing a projector I knew that ease of use was the highest priority of mine - at this price point I expected this to be met, unfortunately I was wrong. Nebula continues to be responsive, I appreciate good customer service but product functionality is (obviously) the priority. Update 10/22: Anker has been quite responsive to my issues. It seems that the bluetooth issue may be hardware related. They are sending me a replacement unit. +1 star (now three stars) for customer service. I will remove this update and replace it with a new update once the unit is received and tested. Update 10/12: There have been a few updates to the operating system since 9/11. While I am happy to report that the image has improved I still feel like it leaves something to be desired. It doesn't pop like my old projector. With one fix came a new issue, the bluetooth connection is atrocious. I tried to link my Harmon Kardon Onyx Studio 3 speaker to the Nebula and the connection continuously dropped (less than 2 feet from the device), when it did connect the volume was barely louder than the internal speaker of the device. I use the Harmon for multiple devices in the house, the connection never breaks (10+ feet away) and the sound is significantly louder. Unfortunately, I have to keep the rating the same (2 stars) - I have tried to like this unit but it continues to disappoint. Update 9/11: I spoke with customer service and they claim that a software upgrade will fix the issue with the blacks. I was told it will be released within 10 days. Original review: I have owned 6 projectors ranging from $150-$1,250. When my latest $1,200 unit died I started researching a replacement. It is important to add that I am slightly obsessive about any type of research and projectors became my main focus for quite some time. Nebula Cosmos was a kickstarter campaign that offered early birds this version (1080P) for $429. The release was delayed and backers have recently started to receive their units. There are a number of fourms that I subscribed to in which users vent their frustrations at a myriad of things. In short, the software is either not up to par or not ready for release. These backers paid significantly less than I did and yet they are still angry, that says something. Issues that I am experiencing: Frustratingly bad contrast with black - I have always used hockey as a great test for a projector, the quick motion paired with bright white ice and dark jerseys sets the stage for a good testing ground. This test is the reason I plan to return my unit. Last night, the Golden Knights played the Dallas stars. For those who don't know, the Golden Knights have a steel gray and black uniform. The players looked like black blobs skating around, I have seen better depth on projectors priced $500 and below. It was horrible. This issue was experienced before and after the firmware update that I believe was supposed to help this issue. I decided to give it a try on a sitcom, community (get past the first few episodes it's worth it). Community has a diverse cast that centers around a study room, the cast has a lot of dialog that is in round table format and so close ups of each face is frequent. Unfortunately the characters with darker skin lacked detail, especially on the side of the face that a shadow was cast. Autofocus is still a work in progress, every 20 minutes or so it seems like I need glasses, the unit slowly goes out of focus and a giant autofocus image has to come on the screen to resolve it - ruins the immersion. The lack of Netflix support is frustrating but from what I hear - typical. Other users load a tablet version that streams 480p - not worth it on a projector that is supposed to be of a higher caliber. I also have had issues with the stream skipping - this is not a connection issue and is documented as one of the long list of things that users are experiencing. I was giddy about this unit, I did my research and was excited to try out a new piece of technology. I waited for it to be released on Amazon and couldn't wait for it to be delivered. It is a beautiful unit that needs a lot of work. I leave feeling more like a beta tester and not a consumer. Paying full retail price for a beta test is not okay with me. In short, this product needs more time to develop and it shouldn't be at time and expense of the retail consumer. I hope that the issues can be resolved by firmware updates, though I don't know if I will still own the product by the time that the kinks are worked out. I will keep my review as up to date as a father of a 1 year old can. ... show more

  • Simple Pros Cons List
Pros: BRIGHT! - 1/4" tripod mount is flush unlike previous nebula models - Android 9.0 TV built in. No external devices needed (no Netlix support as of this writing) - Digital Zoom! You're not stuck to a specific distance for you projector to your screen. Still not as good as optical zoom due to the light bleed, but its better than no zoom. Cons: - NO NETFLIX!!! (as of 9/3/2020) - There's a lame Netflix Tablet version that is nearly impossible to navigate no built in battery - no lens cover or shutter - no lens shift - no optical zoom Improvements Remote is ok. I get lost in it. The buttons could be raised a little more. However, I'm happy that I can finally have one remote to control the whole experience, unlike previous models. I've had two previous Anker Nebula projector models, and a higher end Epson projector. Overall, this is the best all in one solution I've experienced for a decent price point. It still missing some nice features, but I'll take the sacrifice for now. I'm hoping the android OS will get at least 3 years before it becomes obsolete. I'm just glad its not KitKat! My goal is to use this for outdoor movie nights. I'm able to use this about an hour or so before it gets completely dark out, which is great for the younger kids. Thanks 900 Ansi Lumens! ... show more

  • $800 worth of equipment with poor features !!
Received Cosmos today, Build is good, Very disappointed with poor features, I will not recommend this product, Thinking of returning this if Im unable to connect Cosmos with Bose sound bar 1. No Netflix download, you need to install "Anker Nebula Connect App" and install Netflix, the annoying part is it says there are high changes of personal data compromise - Big negative Point on Security 2. Does not Connect to Bose 700 Sound Bar - No fun watching a movie without good home theater sound !! 3. Does not No AirPlay - you need to go via Hacked / Security compromised approach via "Anker Nebula Connect App" 4. No power Backup unlike other Anker Projectors - very disappointing you will not be able to take this out on camping 5. Fan sound is very loud this adds an additional channel of sound :( ... show more

  • Worth every single penny
The media could not be loaded. We are thrilled with this thing. Expectations are exceeded (and they were high). The posted video can’t begin to show the stunning picture quality. We set it up mid-morning for the first time and could have easily watched it in the light-filled living room. And what an easy set up it was! We plugged in our Firestick and were watching everything we watch on TV in less than a minute! Netflix, Amazon Prime, ESPN, Local channels, everything. The sound is impressive and even fills up the outdoors! We bought this because stadium capacity is so reduced at the SEC games that we won’t be able to get in. We thought this would be the next best thing. We watched some highlight shows to see if the action would be smooth. It looks as fabulous as our high end television. So far we can’t find a single thing not to love. We just need football to start! Tonight we watched a movie on the patio and felt like we were at the theater. We were even able to leave string lights on and still have great picture quality. We popped up YouTube and karaoke’d for hours. We have had a blast entertaining ourselves this evening. No lag at all between picture and sound, keystone and focus are instant and accurate. And we LOVE the remote. Not too many buttons, but nothing left off. Google Assistant voice feature is a nice touch. We feel like we have a totally portable high def 120 inch tv. It is worth every penny. There is no thought of “I just wish it would...”. It does everything we wanted it to do better than we thought it would. ... show more
