The Aneng AN8008 is surprisingly-good quality multimeter for the price. It's great for home/hobbyist use. I am an electrical engineer and I've used a variety of multimeters (mostly Fluke brand) in my work. I have a couple of cheap multimeters at home--this cost twice as much them, but it vastly better. The test leads aren't so great, but you can get some better ones pretty cheap (and with the money you saved on this meter you can afford them).     • Great small multimeter for home use
I wanted a meter that was small, with good battery life and many features. This meter is a perfect small size, fitting comfortably in my hand. It uses two AAA batteries. With typical AAA batteries, the meter should have a 1000-hour battery life, less if you use the backlight. The inclusion of 9999 counts display is impressive for such a cheap meter. This meter is suitable for home use, when you don't require the input protection or certain features offered by larger, more expensive meters. There are no problems seeing the screen with normal viewing angles. Typically, I have the meter lying flat on a table, and the screen is perfectly visible like this. I don't use the built-in stand often, but the screen remains perfectly visible when the meter is standing up. If you hold the meter in your hand and tilt the top of the meter towards you, the screen becomes harder to see, while if you do the opposite (tilting the bottom of the meter towards you) the screen stays perfectly visible. Viewing is never a problem because I would never be tilting it like that anyways. The backlight is useful for viewing the screen in a dark or dimly lit environment. There is no option to keep the backlight on permanently. The backlight stays on for 2 minutes. It comes with two sets of test leads with 24-inch cable length. One set has typical cheap multimeter probes, and the other set has interchangeable tips on both ends of each cable. You could even use that set as jumper cables by attaching the four provided crocodile clips. The included probes are not gold-plated, so while they will work fine for all purposes, the continuity beep is slightly delayed. If continuity testing is important to you, you should get a set of gold-plated Probemaster probes which allow this multimeter to produce an instant continuity beep. The AN8008 and AN8009 are the latest models of this size. The AN8008 has square wave output, whereas the AN8009 has temperature sensing and non-contact voltage (NCV) sensing. You should choose between these two meters based on what features you want. There are some slightly larger models you may also want to consider. The ANENG AN113B has push buttons instead of a dial. The ANENG Q1 has push buttons and an inverse display. The ANENG AN9002 has more features such as bluetooth output, MIN/MAX and REL buttons. While the features offered by those meters are interesting, I ultimately decided on the ANENG AN8008 because I prefer its size. ... show more

    • Nice meter but smaller than I thought
Guess I should read ALL the description, but it ended up being smaller than I thought it would be (I'm used to full-sized meters). My bad. Had it been held in someone's hand it would have been obvious. Has a hard plastic case, no soft rubber-like shell. None of that is rally bad though. The important thing is it works great, has all the important functions, is compact, removable guards on the probe tips.... Haven't checked accuracy but more than satisfactory for anything I'll need. The ANENG AN8008 has got to be the best little meter on the market, hands down! This thing is as accurate as some of my Fluke meters at a fraction of the cost. It even has a signal generator feature. For the money, I strongly recommend this meter. I originally got mine just to have a small, highly portable, meter. Now I find myself using the ANENG more than any other meter I have.     • Excellent meter for the price
It has a few ranges that zero on it, particularly 0.030 is not a favorite for this one. A good chance it is simply an artifact of adc calculations at low resolution. No big. Add a few filter capacitors, 0603 went on here pretty easy, and change out the dead electrolytic they put in. Very quick and stable readings, within a percent of my LCR meter which is calibrated. Very impressive. If your willing to dig into this guy, change out a few things, and do low voltage work, this meter is perfect for you. ... show more

    • Great for the price
This multimeter it's really nice for the price. I use it for basic electronics stuff. Fast readings. Very small and portable. What I wont be using it for: AC, as you can imagen, the input protection is not good.

Nice compact meter, decent leads. Love the big display and that it is decadal. Only negative is the continuity beep is on the quiet side. Would be hard to hear around machinery.

    • Junk! been in drawer for 2 years. Never actually used. new batts, no display, dead. Junk!!
Junk! Turned on and tested when new. worked fine. been in drawer waiting for need. new batts. powered on, self test performed then "auto" dispalyed. But unable to get it to do anything. probes good. Junk
