    • Great unit with a few quirks

I ordered this unit to replace the non-nav factory radio in my 2008 IS250. When it arrived I got to work installing it and discovered that they had forgotten to put the CANBUS interface in the box. I reached out to customer support and Cheney apologized for the oversight and shipped a CANBUS box to me. Once it arrived, installation was fairly straight-forward. (In all fairness, I'm an ASE Certified Master Automotive Technician. I can see where a layman may be overwhelmed by the number of connections that have to be made.) Upon installation everything just worked. I fiddled with the settings here and there but everything worked as intended without any of that. I subtracted 1 star simply because there are a few minor quirks that prevent this from being a perfect product: 1. As mentioned by other reviews, the screen does not line up quite right with the center air vents. Not a huge deal, doesn't look terrible, but not quite good enough for 5 star material. 2. Some of the apps are redundant or show options that aren't right for the vehicle. For example, there is a radio app that works perfectly but then there's a second radio app that doesn't work at all. I'm not sure if the 2nd app is for a different model vehicle or a different market. Also, on the A/C app there are buttons that don't do anything (on my vehicle) but probably do on other models. It would be super cool if they could maybe tailor the app suite based on year/make/model. As with #1, none of this is a deal breaker but is enough to knock it down from 5 stars to 4. All that having been said, this product has managed to give the interior of my 2008 a much more modern feel and it's great having navigation and wireless Android Auto. So, I ordered this unit and it just arrived yesterday. I'm a DIY type of dude so I was trying to install it myself into my car. On YouTube, I saw many different videos installing the unit before I chose to myself. Mostly all of them that I saw there was some sort of metal piece on the unit itself and a metal bracket to go along with it. When I opened my package, I was greeted with some plastic brackets that DID NOT even screw into the head unit itself. Now, I am currently trying to get in contact with the manufacturer to get some replacement brackets. To me this is just ridiculous due to the fact that we are spending over $400 for something that potentially could or could not work, or in my case come with the wrong parts. I really wanted to write a good review for this product and boost the rating but that is not seeming possible at the moment. Maybe when I finally get it installed, I will have a change of heart about my rating. Will update soon. Edit: I was able to get it installed in my car and overall it works very well I can’t lie. But, I would say they need to do a better job with instructions and the manual itself that it comes with. 4 month update: despite having a few quirks, this has been the best upgrade I’ve added to the car. I’m bumping rating up to 4 stars because it’s performed so great. Overall: Good product, glad I purchased. Display is responsive, looks crisp. Significant feature improvements over original radio/AC system. Note: I upgraded the non-nav unit on a 2007 is350. First why I deducted stars: 1. There is absolutely no instructions that come with the unit. (I attached some that might help you). 2. I was sent an incomplete unit. NONE of the necessary software was installed on the unit (for example the "AirCondition" app was not even installed nor opened upon pressing the A/C controls). I contacted the seller and he kept insisting to check the wires despite it clearly being a software problem and not hardware. I contacted Amazon for a replacement and it worked flawlessly when I reinstalled it. What works well: 1. Steering wheel controls work for volume, changing songs, and quickly changing to certain apps (radio, aux, music, video, etc). 2. Bluetooth connects well and reconnects automatically. Calls sound good on both ends, even with the built in mic. (I didn't connect the one included) 3. Original CD player/AUX/Radio still works. Found within an app “Original Car” and radio app respectively (Note: plug in the radio plug into the top unit). 4. I used one of the usb slots to add a wireless CarPlay unit (Carlinkit). It opens automatically and allows me to use CarPlay/Android Auto. What could be improved: 1. The volume inputs are split. There's volume on the nav device and the CD player part. If the audio sounds weird check if the CD part volume is maxed out. 2. There is a big overhang from the air vents on the 2006-2008 models. The unit was designed for the 2009-2013 models so keep that in mind if a poor fit will bother you. 3. The app to change what the steering wheel buttons do doesn't work (at least on my model/year). 4. Takes awhile to boot up (approx 30 seconds) but the important things are accessible while booting. Backup camera will open anytime. A/C can be turned on before fully booted. Hazards still work normally. Final note: love how it works, especially the CarPlay. I will try to provide an update after using it for awhile. ... show more
