  • Crazy complex wiring w/out decent directions!
Style: 4500 lb winch
I've had 2 Warn winches and 2 Badlands winches before. The 9k lb Warns worked well, decades ago, on the front end of 3/4 ton Suburbans; my recent Badlands 2.5k lb winch purchases were disasters: each quickly and easily foul-wrapping the wire cable around the winch axles, outside the drums. So, I turned to seeking a synthetic rope winch, choosing the Anbull 4.5k lb model. The good: The Anbull spools in and out in good form, with no foul-wrapping issue. It's pretty quiet, and certainly powerful. The soo-so: It's extremely high gear ratio makes it extremely slow, even with just an approx 1,500 lb pull up a fairly modest incline. Would be great if a lower gear ration and faster retrieve could be offered. The BAD: The horrendous amount of wiring and two boxes that come with it was impossible for two seasoned handymen (a neighbor friend and me) to sort out for just using the wireless remote. The manual was of no help whatsoever! And I couldn't find any online help either. So, I turned to a very simple, completely self contained, solenoid control box I still had from one of my Badlands purchases, and connected that to the Anbull winch. Then, using the Badlands wireless remote, the winch worked perfectly! See my attached photos for the comparison of the Anbull wiring maze (including a small box with very thin 4-wire wiring which the Anbull manual completely ignores), and the elegant Badlands solenoid installation I made. So, my conclusion is that if I had to deal with the Anbull wiring mess, I would have already returned it to Amazon for credit. Having the simpler solenoid box connection from Badlands solved my issues and the winch is a keeper. Anbull, you really need to simplify your wiring connections, and make sure your instructions are relevant to the winches you are selling. ... show more

  • Easy to install and use w remote control.
This is the second winch I've bought from Amazon, this Anbull 9500lb winch with synthetic line was a much easier install than the first one (smittybilt) I got. They serve different purposes, but I found the Anbull much more user friendly on the install and use. The wires from the control box were all color coded and the protective covers easily slipped over the connections. The box mounted right on the rails in a few seconds. The winch mechanism operates smoothly and efficiently, the motor didn't get hot while I was using it to pull my 8000 pound truck. The engage/ disengage lever is smooth and not hard to switch positions with. I used a hitch mount and installed a front receiver which only took about a half hour. Also installed a quick connect which allows me to switch the winch from front to back easily and in a few seconds. Best for my use. For the products in this price range, this was absolutely the best money spent in terms of what I get for what I paid. The remote control is unbeatable. I never even plugged in the hardwire lead... why would I?? Customer service was great and answered questions on the same day I asked. I uploaded a short little video trying the winch out. ... show more

  • Mind of its own

  • Great bang for the buck.
Nice complete winch kit. Both the wired and wireless remotes worked well. I read some reviews that the supplied wiring was not long enough. I removed the air box to rout the power wiring as directly as possible to the battery terminals while keeping the wiring neat and hidden. The Red lead was just long enough to reach the positive terminal with no slack. The Black lead had about a foot of slack. When the air box was reinstalled and the boot was put back on the battery terminals, no wiring was visible. If I would have bought a name brand winch with synthetic line, the cost would have been double. Great bang for the buck. So far... ... show more

  • If your debating harbor freight or this, go harbor freight
I bought a 13k winch back in June of 2020. I use winches on my crane truck for lifting around my property and I admittedly abuse them and use them far beyond what they’re meant for. So if your looking for a review from someone that beats their equipment but does maintain it here you go. I ran a harbor freight 12k winch for two years before replacing it with this 13k. They got me with the price, synthetic rope, and the remote. I thought I’d gamble and I almost remember having a year warranty on it when I bought it, justifying the gamble. Now that I look they make it very hard to find any information on warranties and you must contact them directly. First fail. The winch itself has been slower then the HF. From the get go. Noticeably. I didn’t really mind for lifting 3-4K it gave me more control. It was noisier, in a different way then the HF that is not a promising sound. I did not expect it to last long after purchase, instal, and first use. The synthetic line delivered on it is flat trash. That was my biggest regret on this purchase until it quit working. It constantly just sinks to the bottom of the spool and destroys layers on the way. Lesson learned I’ll stick to cable. It’s cheap and I have plenty on hand. I will say I abused this winch and it handled quite a lot. If your going to use it for a once and awhile winch. The hardware seems fair to midland. In the end what ended my particular units life was the transmitter inside of it. We reached a low of 10f for a few days and it stopped working then. Annoying as of course I needed it in a snow storm with feet of snow. Let down. The only reason I ever pulled the harbor freight winch is because I swung 2k pounds into it and broke the housing. It still lives on my gooseneck doing a lot of Dirty work hauling with a broken housing and just ticking along. It still worked in ten degrees infact. Go buy that princess auto or harbor freight winch. The warranties easy to deal with, in person, and you don’t have to gamble on whether it can be returned or not. ... show more
