Thank you for the speedy replacement of my defective winch and great service too. I didn't have a chance to install it right away and I let this update slip my mind for a time. I DEFINITELY RECOMEND THIS WINCH! It pulls my boat onto the trailer straight and steady! I'm updating this, again, because the reason I could not get in touch with STEGODON was because MY email app wasn't working. When I realized what had happened, I sent them email from another account and they responded right away! They sent an email that said: if you send us your mailing address, we will send you a replacement. They did just that, I had my new winch in a couple of days, all is well! Thanks again for taking care of this for me hassle free. Doug Johnson ************************************************************************************************************************** *** REVISED *** REVISED *** REVISED *** (I'm updating this because it quit working 20 days past the Amazon return window and Amazon has no phone number for Stegodon. I can't use my boat now and I'm not pleased about it. I worked in manufacturing engineering, so I understand things happen but not being able to get in contact with them is completely unacceptable!) **************************************************************************************************************************** I purchased this winch for my boat trailer. It was a bit of a job to run the wiring from my car battery to the back of the car, at the hitch. I used ROCKRIX 4 Gauge 25ft Black and 25ft RED Car Audio Power Ground Soft Touch Wire Cable and connected it to a 30A circuit breaker, at the battery, (breaker under $5 at an RV dealer) and ran it under the car and attached it to the chassis (being very careful to avoid HOT, SHARP and MOVING PARTS!), with nylon cable anchors, using self-tapping screws. Then I attached it to a pair of 175A Battery Quick Connectors, Fits 1/0-4 AWG Wire 12-36V Quick Connect Jumper Cables Recovery Kit for Car ATV Lifts Motors Trailer Towing Winch Battery Terminal Connectors, 2PC, Red (purchased both from Amazon). I used a couple of feet of the excess cable to connect to the trailer, with the other quick connect, and then attached it to the winch power cables. I had to go from 4AWG to 6AWG. I wanted to use a waterproof terminal block, but they are rather expensive, so I just connected the two wires with ring terminal fittings with a small bolt and lock nut then tapped the connections with electrical tape. I also connected the small red ignition wire to the power cable. I intend to connect the ignition cable to a keyed switch, to keep anyone from playing with my winch, while I'm out, on the water, fishing. I'm not very happy with the lack of response, when I inquired about what size circuit breaker to use. Nowhere, could I find the answer. The current draw should be noted or better yet add a circuit breaker to the hardware list. I was amazed at how it pulls the boat onto the trailer! I always had to fight with the boat, to get it on the trailer straight. I have a 14" aluminum boat, about 300 pounds loaded and it pulls it onto the trailer straight, fast and on the bunkers evenly. No more having to yank the boat around to get it seated properly, on the trailer. I can't speak to durability yet, I've only used it twice, but I watched carefully and checked the winch motor for heat, and it remained cool. I pull it about 25' from the water to the front of the trailer. I think I made a great purchase! I defiantly recommend this for a boat trailer!

I installed the winch in July and it worked perfectly. In January I tested the winch again, since I never actually used it yet with a load. It would not release the cable, I would hear the click in the control module but nothing would happen. It would take in the cable fine. I contacted customer support and they immediately sent me a new control module with 2 remotes. Winch works perfectly once again. GREAT Customer support!!!!

As I discovered when I got it out of the box, this wasn't made for my Honda 520 Pioneer. This is an ATV winch. The winch is not the problem, it is the wiring cables. I had to work out a way to get them to the power source. I had to add and splice wire to make them reach. I had to order the wire and wait after I started the install. It was about 3 ft short. I made #6 work but #8 would have been better. I've still got to extend the blue and yellow wires to get them out of the way of branches, etc. It's a good winch for an ATV. I choose the fiber cable instead of the wire. It works real well on our 10,000 lb winches and much easier than cable. The remote is great.

So when I started looking for winches for my riding lawn mower snow plow project I first thought of harbor freight and thought that thier small inexpensive winches would be what I need for my project. I started doing side by side comparisons for design, strength, price, and what you're getting exactly for your money. After looking at a dozen different winches on here... this one just stood out to me to be a really good value with the synthetic winch rope, Hawes fairlead, wireless controller, the plug in wired switch, and all the other wiring necessary to make this a complete turn key winch and plus it matched the colors of my John Deere riding mower and that was a major plus!! I'm very happy with this purchase and for what I'm using it for. A lot of people might think it was a bit of an overkill in size compared to what harbor freight offers but I'm telling you this is a much better product than what they've got to offer. It's funny because it's actually about the same size as their small 2,000 lb winch. And I'm not 100% sure how it happened but I was able to pick this winch up for $85.49 and it's not rebuilt or refurbished. It's brand new! I bought this on February 3rd of 2022 and it's the Stegodon 3500 lb winch. About the only thing that I can say bad about this product would be the mounting hardware... The nuts and bolts seemed a little on the weak side so I just upgraded them to something I felt better about. Great product!!!
