Thank you for the speedy replacement of my defective winch and great service too. I didn't have a chance to install it right away and I let this update slip my mind for a time. I DEFINITELY RECOMEND THIS WINCH! It pulls my boat onto the trailer straight and steady! I'm updating this, again, because the reason I could not get in touch with STEGODON was because MY email app wasn't working. When I realized what had happened, I sent them email from another account and they responded right away! They sent an email that said: if you send us your mailing address, we will send you a replacement. They did just that, I had my new winch in a couple of days, all is well! Thanks again for taking care of this for me hassle free. Doug Johnson ************************************************************************************************************************** *** REVISED *** REVISED *** REVISED *** (I'm updating this because it quit working 20 days past the Amazon return window and Amazon has no phone number for Stegodon. I can't use my boat now and I'm not pleased about it. I worked in manufacturing engineering, so I understand things happen but not being able to get in contact with them is completely unacceptable!) **************************************************************************************************************************** I purchased this winch for my boat trailer. It was a bit of a job to run the wiring from my car battery to the back of the car, at the hitch. I used ROCKRIX 4 Gauge 25ft Black and 25ft RED Car Audio Power Ground Soft Touch Wire Cable and connected it to a 30A circuit breaker, at the battery, (breaker under $5 at an RV dealer) and ran it under the car and attached it to the chassis (being very careful to avoid HOT, SHARP and MOVING PARTS!), with nylon cable anchors, using self-tapping screws. Then I attached it to a pair of 175A Battery Quick Connectors, Fits 1/0-4 AWG Wire 12-36V Quick Connect Jumper Cables Recovery Kit for Car ATV Lifts Motors Trailer Towing Winch Battery Terminal Connectors, 2PC, Red (purchased both from Amazon). I used a couple of feet of the excess cable to connect to the trailer, with the other quick connect, and then attached it to the winch power cables. I had to go from 4AWG to 6AWG. I wanted to use a waterproof terminal block, but they are rather expensive, so I just connected the two wires with ring terminal fittings with a small bolt and lock nut then tapped the connections with electrical tape. I also connected the small red ignition wire to the power cable. I intend to connect the ignition cable to a keyed switch, to keep anyone from playing with my winch, while I'm out, on the water, fishing. I'm not very happy with the lack of response, when I inquired about what size circuit breaker to use. Nowhere, could I find the answer. The current draw should be noted or better yet add a circuit breaker to the hardware list. I was amazed at how it pulls the boat onto the trailer! I always had to fight with the boat, to get it on the trailer straight. I have a 14" aluminum boat, about 300 pounds loaded and it pulls it onto the trailer straight, fast and on the bunkers evenly. No more having to yank the boat around to get it seated properly, on the trailer. I can't speak to durability yet, I've only used it twice, but I watched carefully and checked the winch motor for heat, and it remained cool. I pull it about 25' from the water to the front of the trailer. I think I made a great purchase! I defiantly recommend this for a boat trailer! ... show more

Seems like a nice little winch I put it on a Yamaha Kodiak 400 ATV which is a little overkill for that but this was nicer than the smaller ones available. It was pretty tight to get it in there and I'm about a half an inch away from rubbing the tire at full turn but I don't think I'll have any issues. The synthetic cable is really nice and is what makes this much lighter than one with a wire cable and the wireless remote is very nice. I have yet to put this through its paces but I think it will more than do the job of running my plow and getting me out of sticky situations. The only complaint I had was the cable guide bolts go so far in set into the cable guide that I had to use a flat blade screwdriver to keep them from spinning and tighten them with a wrench from the back side otherwise everything was great. ... show more

Just arrived today 9-14. Packged well, everything pictured I recieved. I bought it for my boat trailer. I will follow up with more info once I begin the installation. I'm giving it five star for it arriving on time and complete with evening. I've installed it and added a cover with grommets. The manual switch has a short cord which im not a fan of. After doing some research I decided to buy this 4,500 lbs winch. I installed it on my 2019 CanAm Maverick X3 and had to buy a front bumper prior to installation. Had some trouble installing it, had to drill in new holes on my front bumper for the winch plate that came with the winch. After making the modifications and buying longer screws, it fit like a glove. I also modified the original switch to a Nilight rocker switch, oh boy did I have trouble figuring it out the proper connections. After doing more research I finally figured it out and seems to be working. Was not able to get the wireless remote to work, instruction are not very clear on anything.
