I bought this winch to put on my 2017 F250. The install was easy other then this is a very heavy winch with the steep cable. I have used this now a dozen times from pulling a stuck full size dodge from off the side of a mountain to pulling vehicles onto trailers. This winch works great and is worth the money. The tee handle that engages the winch broke on me in the install. I called the manufacturer and sent them to needed paperwork and pictures and they immediately sent me a replacement part at no cost. I will at some point change the steel cable out with synthetic to cut down on weight. ... show more

Easy enough to install. Have not done a full pull test yet, but the wireless remote worked right out of the box and it winched in and out. The remote is surprisingly light. We did have to do a bit of a hardware change on account of the thickness of the winch bumper combined with the fairlead. Not a manufacturer issue and we expected to need hardware based off of other installs. The wireless on/off switch on the control box seems a bit cheap and could easily be damaged. Luckily the way it is mounted in this bumper, it is very well protected so shouldn't be an issue. For what it is worth, the bad reviews on this winch that included pictures or video almost always had it mounted wrong. No winch will survive improper mounting. edit: Just load tested, pulled a 2500 in park with ease. ... show more

I received the box open and after correct installation the winch broke in half!! Amazon put me in touch with smittybuilt and they send me a new winch, this time everything was fine as expected. Great and powerful winch.

I could not justify the cost of a WARN, when a winch purchase would be for occasional use. I also have a full size Silverado HD with the Duramax engine, so this truck weighs quite a bit. For safety reasons, i wanted a 2x safety factor on a single pull line, along with a winch with the muscle to not stall out with multiple wraps on the drum . I did a lot of research on winches, and for the price and rating, this winch was what i needed. I bought a ARB Bull Bar bumper (2003 Silverado-part number 3462020/3462040) This winch bumper said it would fit a WARN 16.5 winch. The Smittybilt 17.5k had 1 dimension slightly bigger by 1 inch. It fit.... barely.... into this bumper. The IP68 waterproof rating is also why i wanted this model over the XRC IP67 rated model. Along with this came the 5 year electrical warranty. I live in the west, so mud will not be a problem factor. But the idea of a better sealed unit was a factor in my decision to buy this model. The majority of reviews here (Amazon) and other sites, by actual owners, were far more positive than those with just thoughts on them. Many of those towed the WARN reputation,.... even those who did not own one! If your doing a lot of winching then maybe you should consider the W. But if you do not, and price/affordable cost, and good quality, than the Smittybilt should strongly be considered. If you read about other winch lines, the Smittybilt comes in at the top, in customer satisfaction. Read the comments on hard core off-roaders, and after the Warn, this winch is the most preferred brand out there. I give it a 4 out of 5 only because i have not owned or used it enough yet to give a long term report. ... show more

I decided to upgrade my winch to the x2o thinking it was their upgraded version. It is not however. The xrc pulled 2x better.
