I decided to buy this automated chicken door rather then build one myself because I wanted something that was easy to install and work reliably. High quality. I say this kit will do. After spending an hour setting up and cutting wood I found all parts to be included EXCEPT for batteries. You will need a special +12- volt battery for both remote controls if you want to use them. The door will work with just a light sensor, however considering everything including a tape measure was included surely they should include battery. I still give 5 stars because I like that almost everything included and works great. Now for one small request next time please give a full solid door not a folding door. This will last longer.

About two years of reasonably good performance, and now it doesn't work. The door no longer opens. Since that is the only job for this product, I consider that a failure. As you can see in the pic: full daylight, and the door is closed. The remotes still appear to connect to the control panel. At least when I push the buttons the lights on the panel change. The door doesn't open. There are no online support options. I haven't found any youtube videos of people solving the problem I have with this product. There is no website for the company that produces this faulty chicken door. For the price, I would have liked to have gotten more than just over two years of service. I will update here if I figure out a solution. Update on solution hunting: I tried to open the plastic cover of the control panel. Two of the plastic screws stripped under little pressure. Note the photos above. I messed with the light dials. I pressed all of the connectors into position to be sure they are well attached. Beyond that, I don't have enough knowledge to diagnose the problems. As I stated before, there are no online solutions or support for this product. I recommend you only buy this product if you understand electronics and diagnose the issues I have encountered. Otherwise, best for you to look into better supported products. For the new purchasers, my original thoughts (below) still apply. At least until this door just stops working. Then, like me, you are on your own. Since this door is offered under a variety of brand names, I figured it was being mass produced overseas, and sold through importers. I found the instructions a little confusing. If you want to connect the actuator to the bottom of the door, use the washer on the actuator. That helps. Don't point the light sensor downward. That will screw up the dawn to dusk response. If you want to open and close the door other than dawn to dusk, you will need to buy batteries for the remote. Or, you will need to unscrew the cover on the control panel. I opted for batteries. You would think, for the price, that batteries would be included. That's a red flag for me. The bolt that holds the actuator to the door was activating the infra red safety feature. You can grind the end of the bolt off, or you can bend the bracket that holds the infra red light. I opted for bending the bracket, and pointing the IR light outward a little bit. I haven't had any beheaded chickens yet...

The whole setup worked great, until the sensor shorted after a month. Then, after 3 months, the actuator stopped working. Would not recommend for the amount of money.

Actuator starts making grinding noises after 3-4 month's of use. Seems like it's in a bind and can cause the door to not close... Need a recommendation for a better actuator that doesn't seem overworked opening a 4oz door. edit....still waiting for a response....until then, this thing sucks!! DO NOT BUY!

Plug and play - super simple to setup, instructions manual was surprisingly helpful and clear. Excited to be free from manually letting the chickens out each day! Cheapest chicken door of this style I could find on amazon. I'm not a fan of the doors that raise/fall with gravity! I'm planning on installing all the components inside a nice dry coop - but it looks pretty water resistant. I haven't installed in on the coop yet, but tested it in the house. I am really impressed that the control board has a separate adjustment for nighttime closing and daytime opening thresholds. So far I've opened/closed the door 10+ times just testing it out and it seems reliable and strong. The obstruction sensor tested out as expected. The actuator isn't silent, but it isn't obnoxiously loud. It certainly isn't louder than the chickens! Only downside, battery for remotes wasn't included. I don't plan on using the remotes - but they are a nice touch!
