The color transitions are vibrant and glossy, and the silk finish gives prints a premium, eye-catching look straight off the printer. The filament is well packaged and clearly labeled, and we’ve found it to print smooth and clean with good layer adhesion and consistent extrusion. It performs well on standard PLA profiles with minimal tuning and delivers reliable results, even on more decorative models where appearance matters most. That said, there are a few downsides: The price per 1 kg roll is quite high, which makes it harder to justify for large production runs. It goes out of stock frequently, and maintaining par levels can be challenging—both through Amazon supply and when sourcing directly from the manufacturer. Sales and discounts are rare, and it almost never drops in price. Despite these limitations, this filament really shines for specialty and seasonal prints. We don’t use it for everyday production due to cost and availability, but for holiday décor, gifts, and festive prints, it’s a standout option. This PLA silk filament has a really unique look, I’d describe it as a muted silver rainbow with a glossy, almost metallic finish. It especially stands out on moving prints like fidget pieces, where the gradient shift really shows. Quick verdict: Great print quality and finish with minimal issues, just keep an eye on spool winding during your printing. ✅ What I liked: -High success rate. Even smaller, more fragile prints came out clean without brittleness or breakage. -Strong color & finish. Opaque with a smooth, glossy shine that really highlights the color transition. -Good bed adhesion. On a clean, smooth PEI bed, I didn’t experience warping or lifting. -Easy to print with. Didn’t require any major setting adjustments to get good results. -Minimal stringing: Very clean prints so far. (Recommended temp range: 210–240°C) ⚠️ Things to consider: Spool winding issue: About a quarter into the roll, I started noticing the filament loosening and unwinding on the spool, which can affect feed consistency if not watched closely. ⭐ Tips for use: -Because of the winding issue, I wouldn’t leave long prints unattended. -Check periodically during prints to prevent tangling or feed interruptions. ⭐️Best for decorative prints and display pieces. Fidgets, mechanical prints, and geometric prints where movement highlights the color shift. Beginners and experienced users both looking for a visually striking filament will likely appreciate this filament. Overall, this product delivers really nice results in both appearance and print quality. The winding issue is something to be aware of, but it hasn’t outweighed the overall performance for me. I liked it enough to purchase a second spool for once I run out! Kingfisher Rainbow is one of my all-time favorite filaments. I am a repeat purchaser of it and have yet to have issues with it. It comes vacuum sealed and always prints evenly and beautifully with zero clogging or brittleness, even right out of the package with no drying time. As a silk filament, it can be a little more fragile if used for the wrong prints, but it has held up well in the items I have used it for. I haven't had adhesion problems with it. The beauty and dimension it gives to prints really justifies the cost so overall this filament is a great value.

I honestly like the sheen of this silk PLA filament. I never had a quality issue printing with the filament, it loaded easy and did what a decent filament should do....print. However the color blend was underwhelming. I think had the black and blue been woven in more of a swirl pattern there would be a more unique color blend. The filament was loaded on the spool with the blue and black facing opposite sides and never crossed sides. So your print front facing may be blue or black the sides may have a decent mix of the 2 colors but then the back will have the opposite color of the front. I have this a 2 because it does print very well but it was the advertised print job that caught my eye and led me to purchase. I have not been able to replicate the color blend quality seen in the advertised picture. The print in my photo took about 22 hours to print. At the bottom of the Blue/Black print there is a decent blending of the color that faded as the printing progressed making blue the highly dominant color in the front with black on the backside. Edit: I purchased 3 color variations from Amolen. Since I can't do a separate review for each result I will jam my thoughts into this edit. I've experienced mixed results. The Blue/Black underperformed in my opinion. The Red/Black and the Black/Red/Gold were a hit. Another pain point I failed to mention. 1) for larger prints you may want to use a glue stick. I've tried adjusting the plate temperature with no luck using the glue stick didn't 100% fit the lifting but it helped a lot.
