Finally grabbed the 9850X3D after it kept selling out at retail. Found one listed as used in "like new" condition and saved about 50 bucks off the sticker — took a small gamble on that but honestly it paid off. Showed up looking completely untouched, no scratches, no drama. You'd never know it wasn't brand new. The extra 400MHz of boost over the 9800X3D (5.6GHz vs 5.2) actually shows up where it matters. My 1% lows are rock solid now and the frame pacing is butter — that's the stuff that makes gaming feel fast, not just look good on a chart. At 1080p competitive it screams, and even in heavier AAA titles my GPU is the bottleneck now instead of the CPU, which is exactly the point. Same 8-core/16-thread setup that makes X3D chips so good for gaming, plus that fat 3D V-Cache doing its thing. Fun bonus: it's so cache-heavy it barely cares if your RAM is trash, so no need to chase crazy expensive kits (clutch right now with memory prices being insane). Heads up — no cooler in the box and AMD recommends liquid, so factor that in. I threw it on my AIO and temps stay totally in check even during long sessions thanks to that flipped cache/core die layout. Install was dead simple. AM5 drop-in, quick BIOS update, done in like 20 minutes. Fired right up first try, so any worries about buying used went out the window immediately. Great processor. I have had no issues. I have a Thermalright 360mm AIO. Temps never go over 75 for gaming. How ever they never go below 50 when idling so make sure you have good cooling as she runs warm at idle.

It does run a little hot. Idles about 45C on air cooling. . It was gaming around 80C, I tweeked the bios a little , now it averages 64C ish. It spikes here and there , but , just for an instant. I’m running a Rtx 4090 with it.

    • Incredibly fast cpu
This is an insanely fast cpu and an incredible upgrade from the ryzen 5 5600x I had previously. I'm cooling it with a 240 AIO which keeps temps reasonable however, under heavy load this cpu loiters around 85C with no signs of thermal throttling.

incredible CPU, not necessarily the “best value”…and i wouldn’t have paid full-price, but i sold my 7800x3D for $300 so it was basically a $200 upgrade. what did i get? the boost clock bow goes up to 5.6 Ghz instead of 5.0, better branch prediction, faster clocks but the same basics layout as the 7800, just with the extra cache move closer to the top for better thermal performance. this chip runs just as quietly and dependably as my 7800, never crashes, just does what i ask. content creation, gaming with a 5070 FE, it was a superb upgrade for my am5 asus b850i definitely recommended if you have the cash… if you have a good kit of memory right now, hold on to it. i sold my 64 GB kit and i regret it badly now. this cpu is a winner, for sure. i even returned the 9950x and stick with this single-ccd monster i’m waiting for the zen 6 that’s reported to have 12 and 16 core single ccds ... show more

    • Great CPU, well worth the money
Superb processor for gaming. It runs fast and is easy to cool. Frame rates around 140 to 160 (running a Radeon 7800xt). Well worth the money, and would definitely buy again! Paired it with a Gigabyte X870 Gaming Wifi6 and 64gb of ram.
